Iza and Dingdong

MANILA, Philippines -- Friday, Dingdong Dantes is finally getting married, but not to his lady love Marian Rivera, but to Iza Calzado. The wedding is not for real; it's just the happy ending to the GMA-7's top-rating romantic-comedy series "I Heart You Pare" which goes through its last day today, May 27. Dingdong (as Kenneth) has obviously chosen Tonette (Iza), a woman masquerading as a gay, over his childhood sweetheart Nikki (Luanne Dy) to bring to the altar.

The teleserye which started in February, has Dingdong playing a role different from his past assignments. It's quite a challenging role, the actor said. Tonette was first played by Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, who on account of her pregnancy, had to get off the show. Dingdong denied insinuations that the series had to end earlier because of Regine's absence. "It is ending where it is supposed to end, and not sooner or later," he said.

At the helm of "I Heart You Pare" is director Andoy Ranay with Denoy Navarro-Punio as writer. The series showcased captivating production numbers from the powerhouse cast (including our favorite, Tirso Cruz III) together with selected professional drag performers called Club Love Gays.

Dingdong has forthcoming shows on GMA-7 but "they aren't telling me anything yet."

Dingdong and Kris

But the latest buzz about Dingdong is that he is set to do two horror movies this year, one of them with Erik Matti, and the other with Kris Aquino which they intend to enter in this year's Metro Manila Film Festival. Aside from top-billing the film, Dingdong and Kris will also co-produce it.

Although stars of rival networks, Dingdong and Kris became close during the last presidential campaign. Dingdong, through his Yes Pinoy foundation that supported the candidacy of Noynoy.

Dingdong is also now supporting the controversial RH bill which P-Noy wants to be enacted. "I am for it," Dingdong said during the presscon. "But we need to educate our people about the bill. Reproductive Health is about responsible parenting. Dapat mabago ang morality ng mga tao."

Dingdong and some volunteers were in Cainta recently to teach a community there about disaster-preparedness. So far, about 200 have received certificates of graduation from the program.

Busy as he may be, Dingdong also found time to do an indie movie, "Dance of the Steel Bar," which also stars Hollywood actor Patrick Bergen.

Setting of the movie was the Cebu jail and participants are the popular dancing inmates.
