Column: MovieGoer HEARD: Jao Mapa is doing theater between acting jobs on TV and indie movies. The former teen heartthrob leads the cast of The Exorcism of Emily Rose, opening on Friday, Sept. 11, at La Consolacion College in Mendiola, Manila. The play is presented by Dramatis Personae, directed by Lito Casaje, who says the play is open for school tours everywhere.
HEARD 2: Veteran actress and acting coach Suzette Ranillo is in town. The kayumanggi actress and close friend of superstar Nora Aunor (she sort of represents Nora in the US) also plays a key role in Emily Rose, which introduces student Tricia Perez in the title role.

BAD, as in very bad, unreedemably bad, are some of the characters in the local version of the 2005 Koreanovela hit, Stairway To Heaven.
Why are they so evil, colleagues asked during the program launch and preview of the show's first five episodes, held recently at GMA's Studio 7.
The bad-ness in the characters played by Jean Garcia, Joana Marie Tan (playing her daughter, the young Eunice), and Glaiza de Castro (as the adult Eunice) is a throwback to the evil ways and one-dimensional hatred promoted by Bella Flores and her followers, including Zeny Zabala, way back in the 1950s.
Isah Red of The Standard said Stairway's producers must have a good background explanation why the aforementioned characters are behaving the way they do, displaying acts of cruelty to others without provocation. They seem to play bad just for the sake of being bad.
Against this 'all-bad' setting, lead stars Dingdong Dantes and Rhian Ramos shine like crystals of goodness as they play pursuers of one true love. The pairing of Dingdong and Rhian comes like a whiff of fresh air, wholesome as it is inspiring. The duo makes a good pair, in fairness. They're beautiful together.
Heard that Dingdong and Rhian engage in torrid hot kissing scenes in the advance episodes of Stairway, where they play Cholo and Jodi, respectively. The talk in our table that rainy evening was how DD's girlfriend, Marian Rivera, would take to the new TV couple's romantic moments together. Or better still, how Dingdong could resist the beauty and charms of his new leading lady, who's as lovely and as classy and as enchanting as they come.
Rounding up the cast in Stairway To Heaven, which premieres Sept. 14 on GMA, are TJ Trinidad, Sandy Andolong, Jestoni Alarcon, among others. Hopefully, their characters won't be as bad as the others. Source: Tempo |
