'Don't take your career for granted'

HAPPY birthday to Gov. Vilma Santos who was born on November 3, 1953 as Maria Rosa Vilma Tuazon Santos. The Star and Actress for all Seasons can claim she's the only one at her age who is still a bonafide box office star after the big success of her "In My Life" here and abroad. And she's successful not only in showbiz but also as a public official, as attested by the awards she has received as a mayor of Lipa before and now as Batangas governor. Even her personal life is going great. She married Ralph Recto in 1992 and they're still very sweet to each other, unlike other couples in the limelight whose marriage didn't prosper.

What's the reason for her durability as an actress? "Simple lang. First, pray to make sure the grace of God will be yours always, then mahalin mo ang career mo and it'll love you back," she says. "I'm proud to say that I got to where I am now because I worked hard for it. Don't take your career for granted dahil kapag ang isang bagay, pinabayaan mo, madali itong mawawala sa iyo. Always try to nurture it. "
