Drew Arellano hosts teen dance contest

Early morning TV star Drew Arellano was the biggest draw at the entertainment center of SM North Edsa last Nov. 11.

The affable host of Unang Hirit emceed the Crissa Teen Synergy Dance Competition ’06 Year 3 kickoff.

Drew Arellano sent every young girl screaming in delight as he hosted the exciting afternoon featuring spectacular routines from 16 of the country’s most talented teen dance groups from various schools all over Metro Manila for the first leg of a series of elimination gigs.

Adding spice to the afternoon were several fun games that Crissa, together with a handful of sponsors, mounted for the eager spectators.

All pumped up for the title, the competing groups enchanted everyone with their daring moves and amazing performances. Audience gaped at each spins as judges marvel at each move. All of them shone wearing chic Crissa outfits but it was the group from Colegio de San Lorenzo that was named the Most Fashionably Fun Group for their amazing use and styling of Crissa outfits as fashionably fun costumes. Each in the group took home a thousand worth of Crissa outfits.

After all the dance performances, each group was awarded a gift pack bearing Reva Footwear and Crissa outfits for all its members. However, only the following groups won the slot in the finals—Sacred Heart Academy Pasig, Holy Light School and Colegio de San Lorenzo. Each received P10,000 and a chance to represent their schools in the much anticipated grand showdown on Dec. 17 at Market! Market! Some P800,000 worth of prizes await the winners.

Don’t miss the biggest teen dance competition of the year as more groups try to outdo each other in a battle of grace, coordination and the will to win. The next eliminations will be on Dec. 3 at SM Megamall.

This electrifying dance challenge is presented by Crissa, Fashionably Fun, in cooperation with the Asian College of Science and Technology and Reva Footwear.

Crissa fashionably fun clothes are available in all leading department stores and 10 boutiques nationwide including Market! Market!, Starmall Metropolis Alabang.

Rockin’ Naga City

Bicolanos got a healthy dose of rock and roll as Chippy Gimikada brought some of the country’s most sought-after bands to Naga for a sizzling night of musical extravaganza. Transforming the LCC Mall parking lot into a virtual music stadium were Black Gulaman, Callalily, Protein Shake, and Chicosci.

People came in droves to attend the free musical blowout brought by Chippy, the brand that made snacking a popular pastime in the country, in cooperation with Jack ’n Jill Hello, Teazz, Great Taste Iced Coffee, Energizer Battery, Sun Cellular and LCC Mall. The grounds of LCC Mall became the ideal barkada gimmick crash pad as the crowd was treated to live performances of the bands’ latest and hottest hits. The Bicolanos also participated in various exciting games where they won Chippy merchandise such as T-shirts, tank tops, bandana, stickers, and button pins. The people also enjoyed free Chippy all night.

Pinoys on the global jazz scene

London International Jazz Competition grand winner Mon David and upcoming balladeer Enrique Marcos mesmerized the shoppers at The Podium’s Lounge Area yesterday afternoon.

A joint project of Candid Records Philippines, Crossover 105.1, and The Podium with Remy Martin and Cointreau Liquor and Astroplus, the performances highlighted the album launch of two of the most powerful voices on the local music scene today. It was a display of mastery of materials and versatility of voices.

Candid Records is a jazz label based in the UK. Among its artists in the catalog are Stacey Kent, Kyle Eastwood, Jim Tomlinson, Jamie Cullum, and Mishka Adams, a British national who traces her roots to the Philippines.

Enrique Marcos performed at 3 p.m. coinciding with the release of his second studio album under Candid Records Philippines, I Made It Through the Rain. This former wedding singer from Bukidnon honed his singing talent performing, accompanied on the piano by his grandfather, among the crème de la crème of Malaybalay.

The album, which is produced by Sammy Asuncion of Spy/Pinikpikan, is a mix of standard and contemporary tracks from top Philippine songwriters including Vehnee Saturno. His album is a fusion of jazz, standards, blues, and pop rearranged to suit Enrique’s soothing voice. A highly enjoyable album backed up by top musicians Koko Bermejo, Koyang Avenir, Louie Talan, and Mike Guevarra.

At 4 p.m., jazz legend Mon David took center stage for the release of his new album, My One and Only Love. This new Candid Records release runs the gamut of musical genres, including jazz, swing, and inspirational music. The 12-track CD is an anthology of Mon’s musical compositions and a new set of deeply loved jazz classics. One of the country’s excellent vocalists, Mon David is backed up by a powerhouse quarter of top musicians—Koko Bermejo, Colby de la Calzada, Mark Lopez, and Mike Guevarra.

The performances of Mon David and Enrique Marcos are some of the many exciting events happening at The Podium every week.

CEO Excel Award for GMA

GMA Network chairman, president and chief executive Felipe Gozon was named this year’s CEO Excel Awardee in the Media, Advertising, PR, Entertainment, Special Events and Sports category by the International Association of Business Communicators Philippines. The award was given during the 2006 Communication Excellence in Organizations awarding ceremonies held last Nov. 8, at the Philippine International Convention Center.

Gozon was cited primarily for successfully leading GMA Network to its position as the leading television network today.

The CEO Excel Awards—the most prestigious recognition given to Philippine-based chief exeuctives, presidents or top-level executives of 12 industry categories—is the Philippine version of the world IABC Excel Awards held yearly in the US or Canada.
