Column: Cebu, Lifestyle

THE second episode of the school-based showcase of success stories was sponsored by the Asian College of Technology (ACT) and was led by its president Rodrigo 'Bebot' Abellanosa with his staff Roland Fermo and Stella Galano, Erwin Verano and Marc Rojo.

People Enhancing Opportunities Propelling Leadership Excellence (People) featured Julie P. Parba who shared how she pioneered "Siomai Sa Tisa" with a small investment. "With industry, good service and palabra de honor, we were able to expand and cater to big establishments, like Shangri-La hotel," said Julie. President Abellanosa found the occasion a suitable venue to inspire the faculty and students of ACT to hone their entrepreneurial skills. GMA-7 and Sun.Star Cebu, and People vice chairperson Tess Chan were present. In September, University of Cebu will host People. Then St. Theresa's College takes over in October.

The "Leadership Development, Professional and Public Relations" course of the University of San Jose-Recoletos Master of Management for Executives (USJ-R MMExM) ended its program with simulated presentations of PR and Event Management as part of the students' final exams. It was a realistic learning experience for me, the strong class of heads, managers and HRD practitioners. Israel's Food Fest

Israel Consul Emily Benedicto took her cue from her family's enduring diplomatic exposure and hosted successfully the Israel's food festival at Cebu City Marriott Hotel. At present, she is in Israel heading a delegation of business leaders in a trade mission, upon invitation of Israel Ambassador to the Philippines Zvi A. Vapni who, likewise, invited Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia for possible sisterhood ties.

In November, the Cebu Chamber Trade Mission Program, led by president Sam Chioson, will visit India to explore investment and trade linkages. Philippine Ambassador to India Franciso Benedicto will facilitate the tour and business meetings of some 25 participants led by the writer and Tess and David Chan. Darna In Cebu

The cast of Darna was at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino's Café Uno for a presscon. Most gracious were sweet-faced Nadine Samonte, Mark Anthony and Iwa Moto, who came earlier to entertain questions. Marian Rivera later joined and answered a few questions. I thank GMA Cebu TV station manager Ann Marie Tan for inviting me because I was really curious as to how Marian looked in person. I didn't realize she was so slim and tiny, but nevertheless has a pretty face. It was fun listening to the young press workers interacting with Iwa, Nadine and Mark.
