Eugene’s wackiness rubs off on Dingdong

Dennis Trillo doesn’t believe in fortunetellers. "I’m not interested to find out what would happen in the future," he says. "I believekasi na what happens in your life, nakadepende rin sa’yo, hindi sa hula."

But at the solo presscon hosted by Mother Lily Monteverde for his new horror flick, "Tarot," he wasn’t able to say no when Roselle Monteverde asked a tarot card reader named Arlene Oliveros (sister of Maximo) to tell his fortune right on the presidential table.

About his past, Arlene said a loved one of his just went through a crisis, "pero na-survive niya ‘yun." Dennis said this is his mom who had just had open heart surgery. "May minahal ka dati na nasaktan sa’yo pero naka-move on na pero di ka malimutan," continues Arlene.

Writers say she must be referring to Cristine Reyes.

"May secret ang father mo sa’yo," says Arlene. "Stressed out siya pero di niya sinasabi sa’yo."

Dennis says it could be because his dad is having problems with his business.

All in all, Arlene says he has good karma but he should be careful when he drives to avoid accidents. He’ll find true happiness when he’s 30 (which is next year) and he will have two kids. His career will be very successful until 2011. Dennis says he’s very much impressed with what Arlene said. "It’s amazing!"

But she was not asked to predict if "Tarot" would be a box office hit. "No need to make hula for that," says Mother Lily. "Sure kikita yan, like Dennis’ past horror films with us, ‘Pamahiin,’ ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll 9,’ ‘Txt’ and ‘Kulam.’"

"This is a good year for me," says Dennis. "Yung ginawa kong ‘Astig’ sa Cinemalaya, topgrosser sa CCP and I’m now joining the delegation that’s going to the Pusan Filmfest in Korea where it’ll be shown. Tapos, sa Metro filmfest, kasama rin ako sa ‘Mano Po 6’ with Sharon Cuneta."

How is his relationship with Pauleen Luna on the set of "Adik Sa’Yo"?

"We’re okay. Masaya kami kapag magkasama kasi magkasundo kami in a lot of things. Mabait siya, may good sense of humor and sweet pa."

It is Mother Lily’s 70th birthday this August 19 but she’s not celebrating it. "Kaysa magpa-party ako, ibigay ko na lang sa charity," she says.

At the "Tarot" presscon, she got annoyed when she couldn’t find Manny Valera’s assistant, Chino Sarenas, not knowing Chino was buying a birthday cake for her. Soon, Dennis entered with the cake and led everyone to sing "Happy birthday." The Regal producer was visibly touched by the gesture. Everyone knows that their last release, "Oh My Girl," didn’t do well at the tills as it was a comedy that failed to make the audience laugh, but she’s optimistic that "Tarot" will do better at the box office as it topbills Marian Rivera whose "Darna" is now lording it over other TV shows.

"After this, we will have a new movie released at the end of each month," she says. "For August, it’s ‘Tarot’ on August 26. For September, it’ll be the romantic Aljur Abrenica-Kris Bernal film, ‘I’ll Be Waiting for You.’ For October, it’ll be ‘Ang Nanay Kong Aswang’ with Carla Abellana and Eugene Domingo as the nanay na aswang. Bati na kami after mainis ako sa manager niya last year in ‘Desperadas 2’ and ‘Shake 10.’ Joel Lamangan will direct it and Eugene is his choice to play the role of the mother aswang."

For the playdate at the end of October, "Nanay Kong Aswang" will be up against another "Aswang" flick, "Patient X" of Richard Gutierrez which he is co-producing with GMA Films. We’re sure someone will give way as they can’t afford to be in conflict with each other. Wonder who it will be since this is a choice playdate as it’s in time for Halloween.

Nonito Donaire won the WBA super flyweight crown, his second title, over Panamanian Rafael Concepcion by unanimous decision, making him a champ in two divisions. Two days after he won, GMA-7 formally presented him to the press and we won’t be surprised if he’d also try showbiz since he proved himself a good host when he was allowed to do some hosting jobs in "Showbiz Central" a few months ago.

Born in Talibon, Bohol on November 16, 1982, his family later moved to GenSan. When he was 10, they migrated to the US where he first won three national amateur championships: National Silver Gloves 1998, National Junior Olympics 1999 and National USA Tournament 2000.

He was at the finals of the US Olympic Trials in 2000, but lost to another Fil-Am fighter, Brian Viloria. He turned professional and won his first title in 2002, the Asian Pacific flyweight title when he knocked out his Thai opponent in the 2nd round. He got the International Boxing Federation flyweight title in 2007 when he knocked out the undefeated Vic Darchinyan. This was called by Ring Magazine as Knockout of the Year and Upset of the Year.

He received the Philippine Sports Award for 2007 as Athlete of the Year in Manila. Last year, he severed ties with promoter Gary Shaw for failing to properly disclose income from his previous fights. He signed up with Top Rank Boxing. Last April 19, he successfully defended his IBF flyweight title at the Big Dome over Raul Martinez and for this, he was made No.7 in the Ring Magazine pound for pound rankings.

Donaire is married to Rachel Marcial, a USA National Collegiate and Military taekwondo champion. They celebrated their first anniversary last August 8.

Eugene Domingo has won best supporting actress awards for her comic roles in "Bahay Kubo" and "100." She’s said to be Ai Ai de las Alas’ biggest rival as Comedy Queen. "Ay, hindi, siya na yun," she says. "Wag na lang kami pagsabungin."

Someone quips she should have another title: Goddess of Comedy or Diyosa ng Halakhak. "Naku, tama na ang mga titulo. Pagbutihin na lang ang trabaho. Basta happy akong may launching movie na akong‘Kimmy Dora, Kambal sa Kiyeme’ at title role pa ko. I exerted double efforts here kasi nga dual roles ako as Kimmy, isang office executive na matapobre, and Dora, ang kakambal niyang inaapi niya kasi isip-bata. I’m proud of the movie kasi pinaghalo ang sophisticated style of comedy at ang kabadingan. Tapos, dalawa ang leading men ko, sina Dingdong Dantes at Zanjoe Marudo, so feelingko, ako sina Marian Rivera at Mariel Rodriguez."

After playing sidekick roles, she’s happy to be given her time to shine. "Pero siempre, super kabado rin ako habang papalapit ang playdate naming September 2. Big blessing ‘yung nabigyan ako ng break, but it’ll be a bigger blessing kung kikita ito sa takilya. Mahirap pala maging bidang nagdadala ng movie. Buti na lang, ang daming tumulong. May guesting dito sina Regine Velasquez, Piolo Pascual, Rufa Mae Quinto, Marvin Agustin, Christian Bautista, Aiza Seguerra, Erik Santos, Vhong Navarro, Sam Milby, Mark Bautista and Brad Pitt na nag-volunteer talaga, mapasama lang sa launching movie ko."

So how’s it working with Dingdong?

"Magaling din pala siya sa comedy. Pero sabi niya, na-inspire lang siya ng beauty ko, hindi ko naman siya masisisi. Siya rin ang nag-suggest na mag-kissing scene kami. Tatlong beses kinunan from different angles at sumakit ang labi’t ngipin kasi dinidiin niya talaga nang husto. Sabi kasi ni Direk Joyce Bernal, kailangang passionate, nagsamantala naman siya. Siya rin ang may gustong lumabas akong naka-swimsuit sa pool scene. Pinagbigyan ko naman, kahit nahihiya ako, tiniis ko na lang. Gusto niya kasing masilayan ang magandang hubog ng katawan ko. Ang line ko sa kanya: ‘You find me sexy, don’t you?’Sabi naman niya, ‘Yes, very.’ O, hindi ilusyon yan, huh. Talagang tiniis ko kasi 38 years old na ko, pero ngayon ko lang ginawa ‘yang mag-swimsuit.Tapos nilagyan niya ng malisya, gusto pa niya, mag-topless ako, pero sabi ko, wholesome movie po ito at magagalit ang payrents ko. Ha-ha-ha!"

Since her movie would be released by Star Cinema who has a gap with SM, is it true she requested that "Kimmy Dora" released by Solar Films instead?

"The truth is talagang nagmamakaawa ang SM na maipalabas nila ang movie ko. Alam kasi nilang, sure blockbuster ito. Ngayon pa nga lang, pati mga pirata raw, inaabangan na ito kasi marami nang nagre-request na buyers ng pirated DVD. Pero sinabihan ko na si OMB chairman Edu Manzano na he should make sure that no pirated copy will be released during the entire run of the movie. Otherwise, magagalit si Kimmy at hindi siya ikakampanya pag tumakbo siya sa senado."
