| Gabby Concepcion talks about his kissing scene with Claudine Barretto Author: Jocelyn Dimaculangan Gabby Concepcion admits that he is very conscientious when it comes to his acting. The comebacking actor, who has been a real-estate agent in the United States for the past 13 years, is now working on his first teleserye for ABS-CBN titled Iisa Pa Lamang. In his solo press conference held at Roberto Antonio's flower shop yesterday, July 3, Gabby faced the press to talk about the TV series that pairs him with Claudine Barretto. "Siyempre, may weirdness noong umpisa," says the 45-year-old actor about his team-up with the actress who will be 29 years old on July 20. "The last time kasi na nagkasama kami ni Claudine, hindi pa siya artista." Now, Claudine is all grown up, is happily married to Raymart Santiago and takes care of her two children, Sabina and Rodrigo. He also admitted that he was at first uncomfortable working on his first teleserye in the Kapamilya Network. "Kasi hindi mo alam kung ano ang ie-expect pero before long, okay na. Naninibago nga ako sa two units [two independent locations that are set up to allow simultaneous shooting schedules]. Kailangan mabilisan kasi nga daily siya." Starting July 14, viewers will be able to watch the love story involving Gabby, Claudine, and Diether Ocampo. When the former matinee idol was asked to describe his kiss with Claudine, he says, "Lasang bubble gum." He is then asked to confirm reports saying Claudine was carried away by their kissing scene, which was reported to last for about ten minutes. "Mga ten minutes ba yun? Hindi ko namalayan." As for reports saying that Claudine got carried away, Gabby quipped: "Bumigay din naman ako, kaya patas lang. Kaya okay yung eksena kasi binigay namin yung best namin." In Iisa Pa Lamang, Gabby plays a childhood friend of Claudine who leaves for the United States to study law. When he comes back, they are already grown-ups who develop a close bond that leads to a love scene. When asked to describe his intimate moment with Claudine, he says naughtily: "Maganda, mausok [steamy], kasing-init ng bagong lagay sa buffet kanina. Nakakapaso!" In 1993, Gabby was paired with Gretchen in the movie Kailangan Kita. Fifteen years later, he is paired with Gretchen's younger sister, Claudine. How did it feel about being paired his new leading lady? "May mga times na parang gusto ko siyang tawagin na Gretchen. Parang automatic na. Of course, may kanya-kanya silang beauty pero may hawig, e." Being in a nostalgic mood, Gabby couldn't help but recall an embarrassing incident during one of his earliest kissing scenes. It was for the movie Katorse (1980), which was directed by the late Joey Gosiengfiao. "Si Direk Joey sabi sa akin, may kissing scene ako with Dina Bonnevie. Sabi ko, sige, walang problema kasi iniisip ko hahalikan ko 'tulad ng girlfriend ko. Noong taping na, lumabas ang dila ko tapos biglang nag-cut si Direk. Napahiya ako! Akala ko ang galing-galing ko na. Si Dina rin nagulat." With embarrassing moments such as these, the former matinee idol now pays close attention to the instructions of his directors, Ruel Bayani and Manny Palo, and often asks to review the scenes that he had just shot. "Wala akong problema sa taping, magaling akong mag-memorize. Kinakabahan ako hindi sa linya, kinakabahan ako dun sa acting ko. Minsan nararamdaman mo na [ang dialogue], pero wala sa mukha mo so tinitingnan ko sa monitor lagi," says Gabby. He also takes time to observe his fellow cast members and how they interact with each other and the technical staff. He might have been away from the spotlight for the past 13 years but as early as October last year, Gabby has taken the time to watch the teleseryes of the Kapamilya Network, particularly Maging Sino Ka Man. Iisa Pa Lamang, which was partly shot in Calatagan, Batangas, also stars Claudine Barretto, Diether Ocampo, Angelica Panganiban, and Ms. Susan Roces. Other cast members include Laurice Guillen, Cherry Pie Picache, Matt Evans, Melissa Ricks, AJ Perez, Candy Pangilinan, Bembol Roco, Kit Kat, and Aldred Gatchalian.
