 Gabby’s gripes against manager

WE ask Richard Gutierrez how KC Concepcion is doing these days.

"She’s still in the U.S. to attend the premiere nights of ‘For the First Time’ in Los Angeles and San Francisco," he says. "We keep in touch. Inggit nga ako kasi she called me up during the premiere night in L.A. at tuwang-tuwa siya dahil sobrang dami ng tao. People coming from various places like Las Vegas and San Diego, sinadya nila ang premiere. I’m so happy for KC dahil she witnessed the success of our movie abroad. But we’ll be together at the premiere in Vienna. We’re leaving on September 25 and we’ll be gone for one week."

His rivalry with Dingdong Dantes will surely further heat up now that he’s been tapped by Emperador Brandy to be their solo endorser for their P100 Million Tagumpay sa Negosyo campaign, what with Dingdong endorsing a competing brand. What can Richard say about this?

"Healthy naman ang competition between Dingdong and I so okay lang dahil we remain good friends," he says. "Basta ako, matagal ng endorser ng Emperador at kasama ko pa rito ang Dadko and my brothers. Isa pa, ang tunay na tagumpay ay nasa Emperador."

The Tagumpay sa Negosyo campaign is truly laudable in that it encourages entrepreneurship among our people. All you have to do is look inside your Emperador bottle cap to find out the amount you won. There will be 50 winners of P250,000 each to start a business but there are also winners of P10,000 to P100,000. Each big winner will be encouraged to join a seminar on how to start their own business.

"There’ll also be an Emperador Hotline where people setting up their own business can call and make consultations," says Richard. "Emperador will help them every step of the way and monitor how their business is running."

In his case, given the chance, what kind of business would he put up?

"I’d like to have an internet cafe, which is very timely in this era of information technology. Maraming mga bayan sa probinsiya na wala pang access sa internet and it’d help them kung may internet cafe silang mapupuntahan."

Does he really drink Emperador brandy?

"I do, with my family, kung free kami on Sundays and when there’s a celebration, but I mix it with pineapple juice."

Why did Emperador get Richard as their solo endorser?

"For our thematic campaign, we get him and his family," says Emperador executive Karen Go. "But for this tactical campaign, we got him solo as our studies show that he’s not only the most popular young actor today but also, most young entrepreneurs are the same age as him. We’re not just giving away money here but we want our people to imbibe the values of hard work, perseverance and diligence, qualities that Richard possesses."

Richard is rejoicing because his "Codename: Asero" continues to enjoy high ratings. He and leading lady Heart Evangelista just did their first hot love scene together. This was shot in a beach resort in Bataan and the place is so idyllic and beautiful.

"Parang sa Hawaii ang setting dahil sa ganda ng place," he says. "Inabot ng several takes dahil we all want the love scene to be perfect."

No doubt that for Annabelle Rama, the number one young actor today is no one else but her own son, Richard Gutierrez. And after Richard, she believes the one who’s next in line is her other ward, JC de Vera.

"Tala-gang si JC na ang susunod kasi very talented siya," she declares. "Unang-una, he’s young, only 21. Tapos, bukod sa pagiging bata at sariwa, he dances well, nakakakanta, malakas ang appeal sa girls, maganda ang katawan dahil lagi ko ‘yang pinagwo-workout at higit sa lahat, napakagaling umarte."

How about the competition?

"Huwag na lang tayo magbanggit ng ibang names. Basta si JC, hindi pagtitiwalaan ‘yan ng GMA-7 na bigyan ng four episodes sa ‘Obra’ kung wala silang tiwala sa kakayahan niya. He’ll play four different characters at ang isa dun, macho dancer siya kaya tiyak lalong darami ang fans niya."

We thought JC doesn’t want to go sexy, but how come he agreed to play a maco dancer? "May approval naman ni Tita Annabelle as my manager," he says. "Also, I read the script at ang ganda ng story. For the actual taping, may totoong macho dancers sa set at ginaya ko lang yung sayaw nila. Nakaka-nerbiyos, but I gave it my best para hindi na mag-retake. Okay lang naman sa’kin ang daring roles, basta hindi malaswa o baboy ang pagkakagawa."

What can he say about his manager’s pronouncement that he’s next in line to Richard?

"I don’t want to be compared or to compete with anyone. Richard inspires me. Ilang beses ko na siyang nakasama sa movies, last sa ‘My Best Friend’s Girlfriend,’ and I really admire his drive and dedication sa trabaho niya. May mga nagko-compare sa’kin kina Dennis Trillo and Dingdong Dantes, but I don’t think there’s a need for that. Kino-compare pati ‘yung macho dancing scene ko with that of Dennis in ‘Magdusa Ka.’ Sana, huwag na lang. Unang-una, mas may na-achievena sila kaysa sa’kin. Huwag na lang kaming pagsabungin sa isa’t isa kasi pare-pareho naman kaming Kapuso."

Alessandra de Rossi can currently be seen on both ABS-CBN and TV-5. She plays a supporting role in "Betty La Fea" as John Lloyd Cruz’ former girlfriend, but she plays the lead role in TV-5’s "Love Books" feature for the month of September, "NBSB: No Boyfriend Since Birth".

"Well, at last, nakapagbida uli ako," she says. "I play Rudie, a junior marketing executive who’s smart, pretty, witty, but neverpang nagka-BF. All my friends tell me I look great and I’m also smart, so I really can’t understand why boys seem to be interested in me only as a good friend but not as a girlfriend. Dahil dito, naging more determined akoto find Mr. Right."

"Love Books" are TV adaptations of Summit Media’s best-selling chick lit novels. The first offering was "Have Baby, Will Date" which starred Valerie Concepcion and got positive feedback. The second novel to be adapted, "NBSB," is written by Claire Betita Samson and it’s something a lot of loveless girls can identify with. Joining Alex in the cast are Jomari Yllana, Joross Gamboa, FHM cover girl Precious Adona and PBB’s Bruce Quebral. It’s aired Tuesdays at 7 p.m., with replays on Catch Up TV on Sundays at 12 noon.

In last Sunday’s "Showbiz Central," host DJ Mo was the one interviewed this time about the reported illness of his daughter, Moira, with former actress Bunny Paras, who’s now based in the US. Mo resents Bunny’s allowing herself to be interviewed in other talk shows that can also be seen in the US by people who know their child. He says the last time he saw Moira, she’s healthy and peppy. He’s now afraid other kids might just tease Moira about her ailment after seeing the interview with Bunny on TV.

Bunny said she only agreed to be interviewed to make it clear that their daughter does not have brain cancer, as previously reported by DJ Mo’s former radio co-host Brian Gorell (so Mo should turn his ire on Brian). Bunny added Moira is suffering from another kind of disease called Fisher Miller Syndrome. Mo said they should communicate first before anyone of them makes any declaration on TV. Mo added that he gives regular support to their daughter, contrary to what Bunny claims. He said this should no longer be discussed at length as it will only adversely affect their daughter even more.

Obviously, Mo and Bunny need to sit down and talk at length to discuss what’s best for their love child. But we’re glad the girl is not afflicted with the Big C and here’s praying that she soon recover from her ailment.

Meantime, "Showbiz Central" folks are feeling jubilant because they scored a high 14% last Sunday over their rival, which got 10.9%.

In a separate interview, Mark Herras confessed that he once wooed "Star Struck 3" winner Ryza Cenon and that he once was also so much in love with "Star Struck" batchmate Katrina Halili whom he calls Hot Momma. In the case of Ryza, they had an MU (mutual understanding), which she denies. As for Katrina, all he did was "ligaw tingin" and he never got the courage to really court her seriously. Now, Katrina is an even bigger star than him.

The details of the conflict between Gabby Concepcion and his manager, Rose Flaminiano, are slowly coming out. First, Gabby didn’t know that his concert in Music Museum was co-produced by Mommy Rose herself. He only found out about this when the other producer named Arlene gave him a copy of the contract while they’re having a meeting. Because of this, Gabby walked out of the meeting. This is supposed to be a concert tour that will be brought to various other cities. But because of the reported tiff between Gabby and his manager, sponsors are now backing out of the concert tour so it won’t push through anymore.

The camp of Mommy Rose, in turn, blamed two of Gabby’s adviser friends, Nadia Montenegro and Pops Fernandez. "Sila kasi ang nagsusulsol ng kung ano-ano kay Gabby," says one informer. "They told Gabby to charge P800,000 per show at mismong si Mommy Rose, nagulat sa pagtataas niya ng presyo."

But a Gabby defender says he only did this when he found out that Mommy Rose are really overcharging show producers without informing him. Well, as they say, the plot thickens as both camps have different versions and stories. One thing sure, though, is that Gabby wants to make amends with the people he got into conflict with after he signed up with Mommy Rose. Last Saturday, he already had a meeting with Jobert Sucaldito and they’ve reconciled, with Jobert promising to drop the case he filed against Gabby but not against Mommy Rose.

Gabby says he never told Mommy Rose to file a countersuit against Jobert. Anytime now, he’d have himself interviewed on TV where he’ll divulge all his gripes against his manager. Meantime, some parties concerned want Gabby and Mommy Rose to meet first so they can thresh out their differences.
