“It’s the purest glutathione in the market,” stated All-Time Matinee Idol Gabby Concepcion at his launching as Lucida-DS Glutathione endorser at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel.

In a country where most of the population is dark-complexioned, this is great news! There is now a reliable glutathione brand that is effective in whitening the skin. I have been using it and it delivers what it promises. Senior vice president for marketing Maribel Galindez of United Shelter Health Products, the holder of the exclusive rights to distribute and market Lucida-DS all over the world, points out: “Gabby was singled out as image model precisely because users of Lucida-RS Glutathione can aspire to be as fair and smooth-complexioned as him.”

Lucida-DS Glutathione is glutathione complex (as master antioxidant, detoxifier and immune booster) with 100 milligrams of vitamin C and 100 milligrams of alpha lipoic acid. KC Concepcion and Richard Gutierrez finally signed up to make When I Met You, GMA Films’ Valentine’s offering next year to be shot in Paris, France. Afterwards, they agreed to go together to Lea Salonga’s technical rehearsal at the PICC Plenary Hall. Lea mounted her two-night 30th anniversary concert entitled “LEA Her Life...On Stage” last Friday and Saturday night featuring Gerald Salonga and FILharmoniKa, and directed by Freddie Santos.

Everybody was startled when they noticed the power couple. She probably attended the private staging as they did not want to be ogled at the public performance. Lea is KC’s idol, and she did not want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime show like many people. Before the rehearsal started, KC hid when someone entered the hallway. Seated front row center, they were very sweet to one another. Many times, they held hands. She placed her head on his shoulder. This made those who observed the public display of affection (PDA) to think if they are “together!”

Bing comments about Serbis’s negative reviews

“Critics have differing perspectives and criteria,” opened Armando “Bing” Lao, who is the movie’s scriptwriter and creative producer. Brillante Mendoza has made it to the competition section of the 2008 Cannes International Film Festival! In Variety’s May 18, 2008, issue, it found the movie “more exploitative than enlightening.” Serbis is about a family living in a rundown theater in Angeles City used as a free-for-anything area of male sex workers and customers. It features graphic sex and in-your-face scenes of filth and degradation. The last time a Filipino movie qualified in the competition section was in 1984 with Lino Brocka’s Bayan Ko (My Country). But it praised the acting of Gina Pareno, Jacklyn Jose and Coco Martin.

Bing continues, “What is prurient to one is poetic to another. What is bomb to one is brilliant to another.” By the way, Bing is scheduled to direct his first movie next year.

Roxanne by day, Kim by night

Two stars produced by ABS-CBN reality shows opened their solo shows yesterday. Roxanne Guinoo, a Star Circle Quest product, leads in Ligaw na Bulaklak, replacing Princesa ng Banyera. Kim Chiu, PBB Teen Edition big champion, pilots My Girl, replacing Maligno. This shows the viability of reality shows as a main source of stars. Said shows did not “kill” the star system as carped, but boosted it. Today’s winners are tomorrow’s stars. Not all participants may go over the 15 minutes of fame, but there are those with staying power such as Roxanne and Kim. They co-exist with veterans and non-studio actors in a merry mix of great looks and extraordinary talents. Roxanne has three leading men in Ligaw na Bulaklak, namely, Sid Lucero, Ron Morales and Marc Abaya. Ron is a Be Bench model search winner.

Chair Bayani wants 2008 MMFF out-and-out commercial

Chair Bayani Fernando opted to be blind by not reading the writings on the wall about the Metro Manila Film Festival, which failed to meet gross ticket sales target or even go over the 2006 figures. Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon Revilla have filed a bill to return the MMFF to Mowelfund. But this will not happen this year even if approved as a law as MMDA has started implementing this year’s film festival. In a meeting with producers last Friday at the MMDA head office, he mandated an out-and-out commercial filmfest.

For one, the floats are required to play the entry’s theme song all throughout the Parade of Stars. The buzz is that OctoArts will have two entries. There will be no Enteng Kabisote movie this year. Mother Lily Monteverde will have a minimum of two entries, Shake Rattle & Roll 10 and Desperadas (“Kumita kasi last year,” insider information points out). Star Cinema will participate. And MLR Films’ Atty. Joji Alonso and talent manager Becky Garcia are teaming up for a Valerie Concepcion project.

On the other hand, Sens. Bong and Jinggoy have stated they are staying out of MMFF as long as Chair Bayani is executive director.

There’s money in stage acting

“If you’re not picky and you know how to look for work, a stage actor can actually live off from being one and live sufficiently well,” Avenue Q The Farewell Run lead actor Felix Rivera told Buzzstation.

The smash-hit Broadway musical, which has had two sold-out runs here, will have a farewell performance from June 13 to 22 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza , Makati City .

Felix plays Princeton and Rod. He will be joined by original cast members Aiza Seguera, Frenchie Dy, Rycharde Everley, Teenee Chan and Joel Trinidad. Carla Guevara-Laforteza joins the cast in the dual role of Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut. Felix adds, “This is absolutely the last time Avenue Q will have a repeat. No more rerun even if there’s a demand. Most of the actors will be in the Singapore staging in November. And Bobby (Garcia, director) will be busy with Cinderella and Hairpsray.”

Half-paralyzed cager Eugene Tejada can now walk. He was the ex-boyfriend of Jeni Hernandez...Director Wenn Deramas is redeemed. He has started work on Eugene Domingo’s first solo starrer, Demetria, M.D., for Viva Films. M.D. stands for “matandang dalaga.” This was scooped by this column several weeks back. This shows the award-winning actress is not fighting with the box-office director...Charice will tell all about her father and grandmother, who are badmouthing her, when she returns from the US next week. She will have to do it fast as she will return to the US by month’s end...Rowena Moran, the mother of Lovi Poe, is really against Jolo Revilla as her daughter’s boyfriend. She shouted at Sen. Bong Revilla Jr. and Lani Mercado’s son when he attended her daughter’s recent Maynila taping. When she found out he was there, she rushed to the set and shouted at him to stop “cornering” her. This humiliation made Lovi cry in public.
