Geoff’s perseverance pays off

GEOFF Taylor is the kind of contestant who never says die.

A participant in "Pinoy Dream Academy" which saw Yeng Constantino emerge as winner and JR Siaboc as her first runner-up, Geoff failed to even make it as finalist.

Any other would have lost hope and refused to try again.

Not Geoff. He chose to join GMA's recently-concluded reality show, "Are You the Next Big Star?"

Geoff was lucky to have won first place in the male category; Francheska Farr was his female counterpart.

With the title comes a cash prize of P1 million, a studio type unit at a plush condominium in New Manila, Quezon City, plus a recording contract with GMA Records.

With Geoff's P1 million prize, he is reserving an amount for his mom's medical needs, as the old lady is suffering from diabetes. He also wants to look for his American father, whom he has not seen since birth.

"Hindi ko siya hinahanap for financial reason. Nor the citizenship that would naturally come when we are reunited and he recognizes me as his son. Ang gusto ko lang makita siya. Nang sa ganun, masabi kong buo na ang aking pagkatao," Geoff said while still inside Kuya's house during his stint as a PDA contestant.

Unlike Iza Calzado, Rhian Ramos does not have a kissing scene with Senator Bong Revilla in her first movie with him, "Ang Panday," a Metro Manila Film Festival entry. But she is one of his leading ladies in the movie.

"Kasi I'm the one supposedly attracted to him. Pero hindi reciprocal. Iba 'yung attention na ipinakikita at ipinadadama ko sa kanya," explains Rhian.

Rhian considers it a challenge and a delight to work with Senator Bong. It's her first to do one with a certified action star playing the title role.

While she has worked with Richard Gutierrez in GMA 7's recently-concluded action series, "Zorro," Richard cannot be classified as an action star even if he delivered in the series. In everyone's mind, especially to his fans, Richard will always be a matinee idol, no matter what role he plays.

In the case of Senator Bong, Rhian says he's next in line to the late Fernando Poe Jr., considered the country's action king.

When asked how Senator Bong is as a leading man, Rhian reveals: "Mabait siya. Maasikaso. On the set, he really treats you like a star. I love working with him. Sana, I will get the privilege of working with him again."

Likewise, Rhian cannot say enough of her current dramatic series opposite Dingdong Dantes, the Tagalog version of the Korean drama, "Stairway to Heaven."

Has she seen the original version of the series before she taped the local series?

"I did. So did the other members of the cast. And right on, I knew it would be challenging to play Jodi kapag kinopya ko ang pag-arte ng Korean actress na nag-portray nito.

"I somehow felt relieved when my director, specifically Direk Andoy Ranay, told me and the other members of the cast that we can portray the roles assigned to us the way we envision it.

"He cautioned us, however, na hindi dahilan ito para ibahin na namin ang karakter assigned to us. We would always remember daw that 'Stairway to Heaven' is a popular series and the original was avidly followed by GMA 7 viewers. Kaya they will raise a howl if the changes we make are too drastic," she adds.

Rhian cannot forget the scene where Jean Garcia, who plays the madrasta who maltreats stepdaughter Rhian, slapped her hard.

"'Yung paglagpak ng kamay niya sa pisngi ko was biglaan, I had no time to turn my face away a bit, para kahit papaano, di ko maramdaman ang tindi ng kanyang sampal.

"Akala ko talaga, mapipigtas ang ulo ko, so much so, it took a while before I came to.

"Sensing the tremendous hurt her sampal caused me, Tita Jean was profuse in her apology. I had to assure her many times over that she has nothing to apologize for, as that is part of the hazards of our trade," Rhian concludes.
