KHRYSS’ LEGACY
WE were not really that close to the amiable actor-director Khryss Adalia who passed away recently due to colon cancer (4th stage) which was only detected last August 20. But each time he saw us, he made it a point to approach us with a ready warm smile. According to people close to him, he was very friendly and ‘motherly’ to everyone which earned respect and love from his colleagues, stars, production and industry people. People close to him called him ‘Inay Kryss’.

Early August, he complained of back pains and was confined at the UST Hospital where a battery of tests followed. Later, he was diagnosed that he had colon cancer stage 4. Because of his ailment, he could not longer report for work as co-director of the comedy TV series, “Kim Sam Soon” which ended only last Friday, October 10 but a day after, he succumbed to death as if he just waited for his last directorial job to end. He also reached his 62nd birthday last October 2 but he was already very ill.

Although he directed several TV shows for ABS-CBN, he moved to GMA in 2005 where he directed several shows up to the time of his death and these include “Love to Love,” “Magic Kamison,” “Mga Mata ni Anghelita,” “Te Amo: Maging Sino Ka Man,” “Bakekang,” “Ako si Kim Sam Soon” and QTV’s “Moms”. As an actor, he also appeared in several movies, the last of which was the Annabelle Rama-Ruffa Gutierrez-starrer under Regal Films, “My Monster Mom” which had a special screening last Thursday (Oct. 16) evening at the U. P. Film Center as a tribute to the late megman.

MOST SUCCESSFUL TRIUMVIRATE
ONE of the most successful team-ups in the entertainment business is the triumvirate of brothers Tito and Vic Sotto and bosom buddy Joey de Leon, more popularly known as Tito, Vic and Joey or TVJ which started during the ‘70s. They were also responsible for the hit album series,”Tough Hits” under Vicor Music Corporation, then owned by cousins Vic del Rosario, Jr. (of Viva Entertainment) and Orly Ilacad (of OctoArts). They were not only recording artists but they were also composers not only for their own albums but also for other artists. Before “Eat Bulaga” started, TVJ were already mainstays of the late afternoon musical variety show, “Discorama” with the late Bobby Ledesma as producer-host. When “Eat Bulaga” surfaced, they had to leave “Discorama” and they were replaced by the APO composed of Danny Javier, Jim Paredes and Boboy Garovillo. “Eat Bulaga” being the longest-running noontime show on Philippine television, toppled other noontime programs which include “Student Canteen” run by Program Philippines, Inc. owned by then business partners, Eddie Ilarde and Bobby Ledesma who were also the main hosts of the program.

TVJ’s drawing power extended to their doing hit movies for various film outfits. When Tito decided to join politics, Vic and Joey and the “Eat Bulaga” family were behind him. He won landslide as vice-mayor of Quezon City which he only served for one term or three years then moved to the senatorial race where he also won hands down.

Although Tito has joined the political arena, he makes it a point that he joins his “Eat Bulaga” comrades on Saturdays and whenever his schedule permits. Aside from the team, they are also successful as individual performers. Aside from co-hosting “Eat Bulaga,” Vic is also a successful comedian-producer, Joey has a number of other shows like “Mel & Joey,” “Nuts Entertainment” and “Startalk”. He also maintains a regular entertainment column on Philippine Star while Tito is now anti-drug czar. But their passion for music and entertainment remains.

After almost two decades of not doing any movie together, Tito, Vic and Joey are reunited in “Iskul Bukol. ... 20 Years After (Ungasis and Escaleras Adventure),” an official entry to the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival jointly produced by OctoArts Films, M-Zet TV Productions and APT Entertainment with Tony Y. Reyes at the helm.

FALLING OUT GIVES LUCK
SEXY Valerie Concepcion is an unwed mom of a five-year-old kid, Fiona (courtesy of her non-showbiz ex-boyfriend, a nephew of Ali Sotto) at an early age of 17 but this has not deterred her from pursuing her dreams. A couple of months after she gave birth to her baby, Valerie bounced back determined to make it better after a temporary halt in her career.

Although she started her showbiz career on GMA, she moved to ABS-CBN when her manager, Becky Aguila had a falling out with GMA executives when one of Becky’s wards, Angel Locsin transferred from the Kapuso to the Kapamilya Network. Although she misses her colleagues and friends from GMA, she’s happy with what’s happening to her career now at ABS-CBN where she has two regular TV shows, the daily noontime show “Wowowee” and the weekly gag show, “Banana Split”.

Valerie is also an in-demand celebrity endorser, the latest of which is for the energy drink, Energo.
