MANILA - Young actress Yasmien Kurdi has been urging her friends and colleagues in show business to go vegetarian ever since she became a member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

"My friends and colleagues are very supportive. And I even try to introduce them to vegetarian dishes," Kurdi said.

Kurdi said one of those she hopes to influence is her talent manager, television host Lolit Solis, who is known to be fond of junk foods.

Kurdi insisted that "it's not really healthy for Nanay Lolit to" eat junk foods.

"You know, Nanay Lolit is getting old," she laughed. "I truly want her to be at her healthiest-and what better way to do that than to go vegetarian? I also want all my loved ones to eat more vegetables to protect themselves from disease. I don't want them ever to get sick.

"I really am a strong advocate of eating right, and I want people to understand the importance of eating a plant-based diet," she said.

During work, the Filipino Lebanese actress said she prepares her own food.

She said: "Going vegetarian is so much easier than most people realize. Gone are the days when all you could eat were salads. Meatless has gone mainstreamed. Almost every restaurant in the Philippines offers at least one vegetarian meal, and grocery and health-food stores are full of specialty vegetarian products, such as veggie burgers and other yummy soy-based foods."

"Of course, it's also very easy to cook a healthy meal using fresh veggies and tofu," added Kurdi.

Meanwhile, when asked about on-screen partner Rainier Castillo, she replied: "Rainier and I don't work together anymore. I barely see him, so we don't talk much nowadays."
