Stars help homeless animals

Stars came to show their support for the plight of stray and abused animals with the launch of "Homeless, not Worthless," a fund-raising and advocacy campaign by Purina and the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). This collaboration is enjoins the public to help homeless animals by raising funds to support PAWS or by adopting one of the many rehabilitated animals at the PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center (PARC).

"Purina is committed to making pets’ lives better," says Sandra Puno, Nestlé Purina’s communications director. "This extends to unfortunate animals who don’t have a home of their own. Through this campaign, Purina hopes to give them a better life."

During the event hosted by top model Paolo Paraiso, high-profile celebrities cuddled up to some of PAWS’ adorable dogs and cats present. Passionate about this cause were veteran musician Louie Heredia and celebrity PAWS volunteer Toni Rose Gayda. Louie, a feline aficionado, encouraged his fans to adopt cats. On the other hand, Toni Rose loves animals so much that she has rescued several dogs and cats with PAWS for three years.

Also on hand were some of the prettiest faces in show business, namely, Nadine Samonte and Yasmien Kurdi, as well as up-and-coming talents Rita Iringan, Ariel and Maverick, Dominic Roco, Jace Flores Jr. and singing sensation Nyoy Volante.

Also unveiled was the Purina PAWS mobile launch pad where concerned citizens can donate bigger amounts or adopt pets directly from the PAWS Rehabilitation Center. Checks are also accepted and payable to The Philippine Animal Welfare Society.

HBC brings Gandang Exclusibo

In line with their vision of enhancing Filipinos’ natural beauty, HBC partners with Eat Bulaga Dabarkads Paolo Ballesteros and Julia Clarete to bring Gandang Exclusibo sa Barangay, a Luzon-wide initiative to reach millions of Filipinos who would want to be beautiful. And aside from getting a makeover, participants can also get a chance to win special prizes worth over P2 million.

"We are happy to spread the Tatak Exclusibo to every Filipino, as this is our way of reminding them that everyone has the right to be beautiful. Filipinos should have the chance to feel good about themselves," says Alden Carino, retail marketing manager of HBC.

HBC and Dabarkads Paolo and Julia will visit barangays all over Mega Manila, including Cavite and Rizal, to give away free makeover, including hair color application, makeup application, facial or diamond peel. By presenting your HBC receipt of purchase, you can experience any makeover that you want.

HBC will also give free sessions on makeup, hair coloring, and skin care with the "Makeover 101’ session. The tutorials will teach you how easy it is to apply your own makeup and change your hair color, that you can even do it yourself at home. HBC stores also offer these free services, so you can visit any HBC store near you to get more tips on makeup and hair coloring application.

A salute to graduates

MasterCard Worldwide and U21Global recently recognized the six pioneering Filipinas from the inaugural batch of the MasterCard-U21Global Scholarship Program for Women in Travel and Tourism have successfully completed their post graduate study.

Aimed at empowering women professionals to realize their full potential, the MasterCard-U21Global Scholarship Program for Women in Travel and Tourism was launched in 2006 and women from the Philippines already earned the distinction of attaining the highest number of slots of the 20 full scholarships awarded by MasterCard Worldwide and U21Global.

These women were selected from numerous applicants across Asia Pacific and were regarded as part of the next wave of leaders in the country’s travel and tourism industry. The Philippine graduates, who received their U21Global Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration, were Josielyn Torno Manabat-Miranda, El Nido Resorts direct sales and reservations manager; Arlene Joyce Manubay Lina, El Nido Resorts marketing and PR manager; Ma. Rosario Rosales Santos, Cebu Pacific Air director for airline quality systems; Anna Angeline Santiago Manzano-Cataluna, Cathay Pacific Airways passenger sales executive; Maria Renita Suinan Canafranca, Lagen Island Resort resident manager, El Nido; and Marileen Calilong Ayson, El Nido Resorts direct sales supervisor.

Now on its fourth year, the MasterCard Worldwide and U21Global scholarship program is a continuing endeavor that advocates woman empowerment through education and the development of the travel and tourism landscape.
