Happy to be part of search for youth achievers

Maja Salvador says she has even better reasons to be proud of her new product endorsement Sisters feminine napkins nowadays.

That is because the people behind the brand, the husband and wife tandem of Emilio and Aileen Go, immediately gained her admiration because they have a higher calling in the work that they do. “Their concentration is not just business. They also want to be able to help people along the way,” Maja says.

The new campaign emphasizes the corporate thrust of Mega Soft Hygienic Products Inc. (the company behind Sisters) which is education for the young. In fact, the company has paid tribute to the country’s young achievers that are sisters, relatives and/or best friends in Metro Manila’s public schools.

Their most recent activity was the recognition day held recently at the activity center of Ever Gotesco Commonwealth on March 27, where Sisters gave awards of excellence to three pairs of academic achievers for the schoolyear 2008-2009 that were selected from 30 pairs of “sisters.”

Each of the 30 pairs received cash and medals. Meanwhile, trophy, laptop and cash prizes were given to the top three pairs. Their corresponding schools also received a laptop each.

“Our criteria in choosing our Sisters achievers are based on their academic and extra-curricular achievements,” explains Mega Soft’s VP for finance Aileen Go. “Aside from their outstanding academic achievements and exemplary moral values, they must be sisters or best friends in the school in consistency with the brand name Sisters.”

According to Aileen Go, their company has been recognizing female student achievers since 2005. And it’s only this year that they have decided to give it a little hype as they plan to bring this search nationwide.

Maja is proud to be part of the campaign. “I’m proud that Sisters has a mega soft heart for the underprivileged,” Maja says. “Imagine, they not only serve as inspiration to students but also help public schools in providing them with computers. It may not be as grand compared to what big companies do; but already this small gesture means a lot to the recipients.”

Now, prepare for the home invasion of Bubble Gang with the DVD compilation of their best gags ever, which includes never-before-seen spoofs and jokes. The Best Of Bubble Gang is now available at P350.

From side-splitting comedy, go to action and drama with Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang Volume 1, also on DVD. The release includes episodes 1-10. Set in the contrasting worlds of affluence and poverty, Carlo J. Caparas’ tale is brought to life by Dingdong Dantes, who plays the rich and systematic Homer, and by Marian Rivera, who plays the beautiful and mysterious Proserfina. Homer wakes up one morning with Proserfina beside him—a woman who disappears as soon as she arrives. Unwittingly, Homer becomes addicted to her and falls deeply in love with the enigmatic drifter, and slowly, his world of order crumbles as he immerses himself in Proserfina’s world of deceit.

Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang Volume 1 is available at P225.

Bands on weekends

Bellagio Square in Malate continues to make a name for itself as the newest activity center, this time with live bands performing every weekend.

“I want to bring back hip to Malate,” Leoncio Gosiaco, owner of Bellagio Square, points out. As part of Malate’s extensive revival, Bellagio Square announced the addition of live entertainment featuring the country’s newest celebrated performers.

The spacious but cozy palm tree-lined courtyard with a stage upfront is transformed into a mini concert venue, further defining Bellagio Square as the Manila’s premier destination for dining, drinking and quality lounge entertainment.

”I am thrilled with the revival of Malate as a premier events destination,” said Josef Schmidt, an expat who’s been frequenting Malate for four years now. “Not only do I have a varied choice of restaurants to choose from at Bellagio Square, I can now enjoy listening to Filipino bands which are the best in the world, while enjoying my food and drinks.”

Two alternate bands perform every Friday and Saturday starting at 9 p.m.

Newest hot spot in Rockwell

Seattle’s Best Coffee recently opened at the 2nd level of Power Plant Mall in Rockwell. Who can resist the lure of Seattle’s Best Coffee with its bold, smooth and never-bitter flavor? Whether it’s hot, on-ice or blended, their classic coffee selection and flavored concoctions will perfectly suit your mood any time of the day.

There’s a wide selection of sweet and savory pastries that go perfectly with any of their drinks. They also have a selection of salads, flavorful and filling sandwiches, piping hot pasta dishes and an all-day breakfast menu freshly made right in the café.

Speaking of space, there’s quite a lot in this Seattle’s Best Coffee café. If you want to be part of the action, there are five clusters that comfortably seat a group of four at the front of the counter or you can hide away at the back where you have the feel of an outdoor café as you bask in the rays of the sun and look out to the lush greens through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

With its open concept and the strategic location of the café, it blends together the best of both worlds. It’s open enough so one can see what’s going on around them yet still lend some privacy in an otherwise busy mall.
