Holy Week not just about Christ's death: Pinoy musicians

For Arnel Pineda, the newest vocalist of the American rock band "Journey", Holy Week offers an opportunity to love one's family and thus show one's love of the Lord.

"I will be with my family, definitely. I will go out of town with them," Pineda told ABS-CBNNews.com.

The other message of Holy Week other than loving one's family, he said, is to venerate God's sufferings.

"I hope we remember the meaning of the suffering of the good Lord for mankind and the importance of this to all persons we love and also to our enemies," Pineda explained.

"You see I'm not a very religious person; I'm just spiritual. I don't go to church and yes, I'm a Christian," he said. "But I'm very spiritual and I believe in God."

The Company

For one of the country's premiere ensembles, "The Company", exalting Holy Week comes in various ways.

The group leader and founder, Moy Ortiz, told ABS-CBNNews.com that aside from praying, he may also be doing Visita Iglesia (Visit of Churches), a tradition Catholics observe during Lent.

Other members like Annie Quintos and Cecile Bautista will also do Visita Iglesia. They will also again watch the classic film for the Holy Week, "The 10 Commandments".

Another "The Company" member, Jay Marquez, will join a clan reunion in the province of Anilao, while Sweet Plantado will perform Cantata.

"Basically Holy Week is the time when you reflect on the sacrifices of God," Plantado replied when asked what Lent meant for her.
