Hot actor is turning out to be a hot recording star

Believe it or not, Dennis Trillo’s eponymous debut CD is the hottest title in music stores these days. According to an informal survey conducted by this space, after the launch on a noontime show, fans of the actor have been trooping to music stores to get a copy of the much-awaited CD.

Leo Dominguez of Indimusic, reported to us that the newest recording star can sell an average of 300 units each time he goes to a mall to promote the album.

In this day and age when music enthusiast would rather acquire their music in the most illegal ways (like free downloads on a Web site called ‘limewire’) it is not easy to sell a CD. So, Dominguez is quite surprised at how fans have been responding to Dennis’s first venture in recording.

The CD is getting the boost it needs from the radio airplay of Dennis’ no-frills version of the Air Supply ’80s hit, “All Out Of Love,” the tune that got associated with the handsome actor when he did a breakthrough feminine napkin commercial.

Although the CD was primarily designed for the many female fans of the actor—you should see how delirious these women are when the actor/singer takes the microphone to croon his favorite tracks like his version of Eric Carmen’s “Love Is All That Matters,” as well as the Ogie Alcasid-penned “Para Sa Iyo.”

On a personal note, I get goose bumps listening to “Lumilipad”, written by one Hannah Leah Aracena. The song says something about how love can change a person. And Dennis sings it with his heart. While he is not technically a singer (by the standards I have set on all persons who call themselves singers), “Lumilipad” seems to be the most affecting of all the tracks in the CD.

Interestingly, Dennis also plays the drums (apart from singing the lead vocals, Zebedee Zuñiga does the backing vocals) in “Mangarap Lang,” the song penned by Cacai Velasquez Mitra.

The other tracks, like “Tanga,” written by Viktoria and “Kung” by Odette Quesada, sounded a bit too forced in on a talent that is just learning the ropes of recording. But, Dennis is a smart student and fast learner, he is able to absorb the musical complexities of the melody and evidently understood the nuances of the songs he delivers surprisingly like he’s been in the recording studio for a decade.

There’s a quiet charm to this album. I don’t mind keeping it in my library for the rest of my life and listening to some of the tracks once in a while.

Happy 22nd birthday Geoff!

Geoff Eigenmann has returned home and is very happy to be back to his original kapamilya! He is definitely a welcome addition to ABS-CBN Star Magic family being one of the good-looking and in-demand actors of today’s generation. As he celebrates his 22nd birthday on March 23, Geoff is back with his ABS-CBN Star Magic as he was one of the originals of Ang TV at the age eight.

When he became an artist of ABS-CBN, he was one of the main leads of the teleserye Hiram. This was followed by Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin and will soon be seen in Hiram na Mukha and the much-awaited Rounin. He was also in the two blockbuster movies from Star Cinema namely Bcuz of U and First Day High. He did hosting jobs for Asap Fanatic with Luis Manzano and John Prats. He is also one of the VJs of Studio 23’s MYX and in Asap ’07.

Everyone knows that Geoff is part of a showbiz family. Being the son of Gina Alajar and Michael de Mesa, acting is really in his blood. Showbiz has been part of his childhood as he used to tag along during shootings/tapings. It is no surprise that he eventually developed his interest in acting and was cast in television shows in another network. However, Geoff was really noticed when he starred in his very first commercial for Globe. He is still a Globe endorser but add to the list Human, No Curfew, and Calayan Surgicentre.

In terms of his career, Geoff has many dreams. He hopes to be cast in more dramatic and serious roles in the future. Of course, he would want an acting award but at this point, a nomination is a great honor already. His greatest dream is to be able to work with his parents in a TV series or movie.

Geoff has every reason to have a happy birthday. We can see that he will be in showbiz for a long time as he is passionate with his craft and has this thirst to learn and improve his skills. ABS-CBN Star Magic is truly proud to have Geoff in its stable of artists and only wishes him the best in all his endeavors.
