TRUE QUEEN - Ateneo Prof. Danton Remoto, writing in the April issue of 'S Showbiz Stars & Scoops' for his column 'Take One,' gives 10 pointers on "How to Survive in Showbiz by Really Trying."

He opens his column with some kind of tribute to Miss Gloria Romero, the all-time movie queen, a great person and actress.The esteemed Professor Remoto confesses he's a long-time fan of Gloria, who he met at the launch of Ricky Lee's first novel "Para Kay B."

For once he was tongue-tied.Danton and this columnist share a "passion" for Gloria. Ditto BB Gandanghari who, in an 'S' interview, said that she is the true queen of Philippine cinema.

10 TIPS - Professor Remoto asks, "Now how does one survive in the mad, mad world of Philippine showbiz?" Here are his pointers:

TALENT - But of course, it being the main point in a showbiz career.

LEARN TAGALOG (OR PILIPINO) - If you don't, you'll only be good for a few movies (or TV shows), the roles very limited.

TREAT PEOPLE WITH RESPECT - Especially addressed to newcomers who think they've arrive when in fact they're going nowhere. The humblest alalay and production assistant and crewmember deserve respect.

KNOW YOUR BUSINESS - Don't ask who's Lino Brocka or Ishmael Bernal.

BE PROFESSIONAL - Come to the set prepared and on time. Gloria Romero, Anita Linda, Eddie Garcia, and the other stars of the '50s are the paragons of professionalism.

TREAT YOUR FANS WELL - Because Nora Aunor is considerate to her fans they remain loyal to her to date. Danton hopes that someday the Superstar will "finally nail that National Artist Award for Film that belongs to her."

ASK FOR COPIES OF THE STORY TREATMENT, OR THE SCRIPT, BEFORE YOU SAY YES - But only if you have the clout. Otherwise, make the best of the situation.

DRESS APPROPRIATELY - Tone down on the bling-blings. You can be sexy... if you can carry it. Danton admires BB Gandanghandri's fashion sense, "a smash."

READ BOOKS - Cited are Ateneo student Rica Peralejo and graduates Nikki Gil, Kris Aquino, and Dingdong Dantes. Lea Salonga, too, who studied at Ateneo. Get an education.
