It’s her performance that counts for Iza

Iza Calzado is promoting not just one but two movies, "One True Love" and "Scaregivers," that will be shown one after the other. What can she say about the observation that her billing in both flicks did her injustice? She was just billed as "with" in "One True Love" and in "Scaregivers," newcomer Ehra Madrigal is billed ahead of her.

"Sa totoo lang, hindi naman ako billing conscious," she says. "But friends keep telling me I should be aware kung kailan ako natatapakan dahil kung lagi akong magpapatak, mas lalo raw akong tatapakan. But these people are my friends, so hindi ko alam what will happen. Bahala na ang GMA Films at APT Entertainment na producers ng movies ko kung ano gusto nilang gawin. Ayokong reklamo nang reklamo. In the end naman, ang tinitingnan ng viewers ay kung naging effective ka ba sa acting mo, ‘di ba? ‘Yun pa rin ang mas mahalaga so trabaho na lang ako ng trabaho but I always give my best in everything I do para magustuhan ng tao ang performance ko."

Both Karylle and Dingdong are good friends of hers. What can she tell them about their breakup? "Maraming nagsasabi na sayang dahil three years na sila. But I believe we shouldn’t think of it that way. Maybe that’s what’s meant to happen. They should just treasure the years that they spent together at huwag manghinayang. I believe they can both move on naman."

How was it starring with Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola? "I really had fun doing ‘Scaregivers’ with them. After the dramas I’ve been doing, welcome break ito kasi sobrang saya sa set. Kapag puyat na kami lahat at low energy na, they make us laugh kaya gising na uli kami.Masarap ring katrabaho ang producer namin, si Mr. Tony Tuviera, kasi walang tigil ang dating ng food sa set kaya laging busog kami.""

LJ Moreno admits she developed a crush on an Argentine crew member while they were doing "Pinoy Fear Factor" in Buenos Aires. "His name is Maxi and he’s really cute, baby faced," she says. "E, mahilig talaga ako sa mga baby faced guys. When he approached me and talked to me, nag-blushako and nag-trip tuloy ako while walking, na-consciouskasi bigla. When I was doing my stunt that required me to swing from one rope to another 15 meters above the ground na parang si Tarzan, aba, he even cheered me on, at sumigaw ng ‘Coglarse como Tarzan. You’re a very strong girl.’ Kaya ginanahan naman lalo ang beauty ko."

It’s a difficult challenge the participantes faced and the first to do it was RJ, the kargador from Tondo who failed to do the first stunt assigned to them last week so he mustered all his guts and courage this time to do the stunt for the sake of his family. Marion, who was one of the bottom three last week, was too scared to do the stunt as he is afraid of heights, but he’s able to conquer his fear and finished at top four, avoiding elimination along with Manuel, Phoem and Savanah. The group’s resident alaskador, hunky model Jommy, failed in the stunt and as punishment, he was made to take all his clothes off and dance naked in front of his colleagues in El Campo Miedo. He did it so much with gusto.

"Pero sa totoo lang, siya ang gusto naming matanggal," says LJ.

"Gawin muna kasi niya nang maayos ang stunts bago siya magyabang," adds Phoem.

Romance is in the offing among the participantes with voluptuous ledge dancer Savanah very vocal about her liking for Jose Sarasola, the one rumored to have a sex video. She got jealous when she saw Jose dancing with Janna and declared: "Akin lang siya!"

They all get tense as the second round of elimination comes around this Friday with them being challenged to eat the brains of a sheep and to hang up in the air from a moving helicopter, so don’t miss "Pinoy Fear Factor" hosted by Ryan Agoncillo after "Betty La Fea."

Congratulations to Claire de la Fuente. Her "Christmas Album" released by Viva Records has been certified gold after only a month of release while her "Something In Your Eyes" album released early this year is now certified platinum. Her Yuletide album is a perfect gift this holiday season as it contains traditional as well as contemporary Christmas carols, plus new compositions for the Christmas season. It’s actually a best seller not only locally but also abroad.

"Something In Your Eyes" features the title song and carrier single that was composed by Richard Carpenter of the famous Carpenters duo. Richard was here personally during its launching to endorse Claire’s bravura singing of his beautiful love song. Both of Claire’s albums were recorded and digitally mastered in the USA for superior recording quality.

"I’d really like to thank all those who supported and bought my albums," says Claire, now a lovely widow who’s currently being linked to a younger man, like a Demi Moore who has found her own Ashton Kutcher.

Come December 30, CLaire will be featured in a live concert at the PICC, "The Legends of Pop," along with other legendary singers like Rico Puno, Eva Eugenio, Nonoy Zuniga, Rey Valera, and Joey Albert.

Sen. Loren Legarda is our most environmentally aware senators. She has now produced a film, "Ulan sa Tag-araw: Dokyu-Drama Ukol sa Pagbabago ng Klima," that aims to bring her green campaign in "Luntiang Pilipinas" to a broader audience. It was premiered at Shangri-la Mall last Friday, tackling the significant social, economic and health impacts of climate change. It starred Chin Chin Gutierrez, Roy Alvarez, Beverly Salviejo as members of a community suffering from the backlash of global warming, combined with actual footage from various disasters that happened in the country due to this, with Loren herself as narrator.

"The film aims to educate viewers and make them feel the ill effects of climate change due to man’s own negligence," she says. "Tao ang dahilan ng polusyong sumisira sa kalikasan, mula sa gas emissions from motor vehicles and factories hanggang sa pagtatapon ng basurang nakalalason sa ating mga ilog at dagat. This is confirmed by our interviews with five of the Filipino scientists who were part of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change who shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former Us Vice pres. Al Gore."

Regal producer Mother Lily Monteverde attended the screening to show her support to Loren. "Mother Lily even lent us her equipment in filming the docu-drama," says Loren.

"I truly believe in Loren’s projects," says Mother Lily. "We should all give a hand in rebuilding our environment that’s been damaged by years of neglect. We owe this to future generations. ‘Ulan sa Tag-araw’ is an excellent way of opening the eyes of the public in the importance of cooperation to save Mother Nature."

But people can be so hardheaded. In our own village, people have been told to stop burning their trash in bonfires but we continue to see the housemaids doing this. And people continue to dump their garbage into creeks. How "baboy," really!

The Danish pop rock group Michael Learns To Rock will have a special one-night-only concert on November 22. It will be produced and presented by Edgardo T. Mangahas. Some of the band’s big hits are "The Actor," "Sleeping Child," "25 Minutes," "Out of the Blue," "That’s Why (You Go Away)," "Paint My Love" and "Nothing to Lose." As interest in the band surges to new heights, music giant EMI has decided to join in on the fun and release the group’s newest "Best of" compilation, which is now selling well.

It was in 1987 when singer-keyboardist Jascha Richter and drummer Kåre Wanscher met as high school students in Aarhus, Denmark. Discovering a shared love for music, the songwriting duo decided to form a band, asking guitarist Mikkel Lentz, who was already in another group [the Rocking Studs] to join them. Søren Madsen joined them the next year, playing bass. The newly formed group didn’t have a name yet when they made their performance debut in May of the same year at the city’s annual new talent contest. They won and were hurriedly asked to come up with a name and they just thought of the silliest name they can imagine, Michael Learns To Rock. They released their debut album in September 1991, scoring their first hit with "The Actor," which topped the Danish charts. Surprisingly, it also did well across the globe, including Norway, Sweden, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. The second album, "Colours," released in 1993, proved the band’s early success was not a fluke, as it sold over a million mark and spawned a new batch of hits in "Sleeping Child," "25 Minutes" and "Out of the Blue." The group’s triumphant romp in the international music charts continued two years later with their third release, "Played on Pepper," which included the popular tunes, "That’s Why (You Go Away)" and "Someday." The group’s ever-growing fame became more evident when, "Paint My Love," released in 1996, sold 3.4 million copies — their biggest yet.
