It’s their time now

It’s the time of the showbiz kids. Showbiz royalties Richard Gutierrez and KC Concepcion are in Cloud 9 after the huge success of their Valentine flick, Regal Entertainment and GMA Films’ "When I Met You," directed by Joel Lamangan.

Earlier, it is important to note that Richard and KC’s first achievement was to make possible the agreement of the warring local networks, ABS-CBN and GMA. Richard, a Kapuso talent, and KC, a Kapamilya, first did a movie, "For the First Time," under the Star Cinema banner of ABS-CBN last year.

"When I Met You," which took in P10 million on its opening day, is the first certified box-office winner of GMA and Regal for this year. Its box-office take grew on Valentine’s Day weekend and it is expected to continue its run this month because of positive reviews and word of mouth.

Richard, of course, belongs to the illustrious Gutierrez clan, headed by ‘60s heartthrob Eddie Gutierrez and Annabelle Rama. His siblings Richie Paul, Rocky, Elvis, twin Raymond, and half-brother Ramon Christopher and Tonton, plus sister Ruffa are all in the business.

KC, meanwhile, is the product of ‘80s matinee idol Gabby Concepcion and megastar Sharon Cuneta. She is also related to the Sottos, because Sharon is the niece of Helen Gamboa-Sotto, who is the younger sister of her Lola Elaine Cuneta. KC’s stepfather, Senator Francis Pangilinan, is from the famous clan that includes celebrities and politicians as well.

Speaking of Sharon, the daughter of her ex-boyfriend, Robin Padilla, is also in the limelight.

Another fresh face on TV is Queenie Padilla, the daughter of Robin and Liezel Sicangco. Queenie gets her big break in her father’s "Totoy Bato," airing on GMA starting February 23, starring as the daughter of the show’s rich villain. She and sister Kylie first got notice because of their martial arts moves last year. The sisters are both trained, just like their father, in Muay-Thai and last year, Kylie displayed her skills in "Joaquin Bordado," playing Erenea.

These progenies of showbiz’ super celebrities have the looks and the charisma. With the right projects, they are now proving that they are worthy of their famous last names.
