Iya Villania open to more kontrabida roles

ACTRESS and TV Host Iya Villania does not mind taking on another role like Trixie, the main villain to Jillian's (Angel Locsin) life, in the ABS-CBN Primetime TV Show "Only You."

She may appear to be the perky performer in Asap and the bubbly host in US Girls but she has no qualms about taking on another villain role.

"I enjoyed playing the role of Trixie. If they think that I'm more effective in it and that's what they want for me, and they think that I will play that role well in a different project then I will be more happy to take it on," she said.

Like most villains on television, Iya is also getting feedback that followers of "Only You" have started to harbor feelings of hatred for her, a gauge on how effective she has become as an actress.

"Hated me playing the character or hated my character?" Iya clarifies. If they hated my character, then that's good! At least, I did my job!

"But maybe not really hate me. Maybe hated me during the time I was giving Jillian's character a hard time. I had my reasons and it's just one way for me to change. I must not be that evil because if I was, that retreat wouldn't have worked for me," she added.

During the latter part of the teleserye, Trixie attended a retreat with Jonathan (played by Diether Ocampo), which paved the way for her turning point.

Apart from playing her character, Iya also enjoyed the company of the cast, especially her jamming sessions with Tirso Cruz III, who plays the role of TJ's (Sam Milby) father.

"I really got to talk to Tito Pip. I was so scared at first but then when I got to work with him and see how he is on the set -- not just as an actor but also as a person -- he might be intimidating at first but once you get to know him, he's such a friendly man. He's fun to have on the set because he jams and I love music. So, it's nice to listen, to jam with him," she said.

Asked if she is hoping to take on lead roles in future projects, Iya said she leaves it all up to the management.

"Whatever they want to give me. The management, they know me, they know who should play the role. It's all up to them," she said.

Hosting duties with US Girls on Studio 23, has also been keeping Iya busy.

She said hosting is another form of learning experience for her, much like her experience on being a kontrabida.

"I love US Girls 'coz it's like a school for me. Every time I feature something, I discover something. I get introduced to new products. That's what I love about US girls. I learn about different trends in a different kind of light when a stylist or designer shares something to me in a different perspective. That's the impact it has on me," she shared.

US Girls will be holding its first ever "US Girls August Awards" on Thursday in Eastwood Mall in Libis, Quezon City.

"Only You" meanwhile will be airing its final episode this Friday.
