Janno Gibbs' successful birthday concert

Author: The Manila Bulletin

Janno Gibbs celebrated his birthday last Friday night with a full-packed crowd of more than 700 fans at Zirkoh Timog, Quezon City. Already in his mid-30's, Janno's well-applauded numbers only showed that there's more to expect from him in the years to come, like his soon to be released all-revival album!

Janno Gibbs didn't waste time in opening his party/mini-concert with a "Pinaka-Magandang Babae Medley" that immediately heated-up the audience. He then followed it up with "Ipagpatawad Mo" which through the years became one of his signature songs, "Almost Over" and his own rendition of Justine Timberlake's "Sexy Back."

He also had special guest performers like Jennylyn Mercado who, after a solo number, did a duet with him for the songs "If I'm Not In Love" and "Moments of Love." He then got "jiggy with it" with the EB Babes as he sang "Drop It On Me" which he later followed with "Beer."

His next guest was Jolina Magdangal who brought the house down with "Makulay Na Buhay" and her duet with Janno "Let Me Be The One." Next were his showbiz buddies Keempee de Leon and Dennis Trillo who did a Beegees medley that wowed all the women in the house.

Asia's Songbird, Regine Velasquez, celebrated with Janno with "Sa Aking Pag-iisa" and a duet. His last guest was stand-up comedian and singer Gladys Guevarra who mimed the song "You" as Janno sang it. This number has been part of Janno and Gladys' numerous shows and it never failed to draw guffaws and hearty laughter from their audience!

Then after the melancholic love song "Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo" which would be part of his coming album, he ended the show with "Fallin" and the party song "September" by Earth, Wind and Fire as he danced with the crowd.

Aside from his repertoire and special guest performers, Janno's concert at Zirkoh was like a family affair. Everyone got busy with their digital cameras or cellphone cameras to capture every performance. As a treat to his fans, Janno and his guests took time, after their numbers, to pose for them. They obliged by posing at both the left and the right sides of the stage for everyone to get a good picture of them. They also allowed some to go up the stage for a rare photo opportunity with Janno and his guest performers/friends.

(Although a known insomaniac, after his successful birthday concert, I bet Janno Gibbs slept soundly immediately, unless of course a nightcap ensued...happy birthday Janno and more power!
