THE fans of the Mark Herras-Jennylyn Mercado love team are jubilant that their recent reunion in “Magpakailanman” rated very well. Because of this, they'll be paired again in the TV remake of the Sharon Cuneta-Gabby Concepcion film, “My Only Love” (their third movie after “Dear Heart” and “PS I Love You” and the first movie of Jackielou Blanco where she played Sharon's rival over Gabby. ) “I was told by Direk Louie about that, but no official notice yet from GMA,” says Jen.

We're glad Jen is active again on TV after her manager's messy breakup with GMA-7 due to the Angel Locsin brouhaha. “I'm now under GMA Artist Center,” she says. “They deal with me directly na. ”

Jen is also doing two films. One is “Resiklo” with Bong Revilla for the Metro-Manila Filmfest. “Three more days at tapos na kami,” she says.

The other one is a film about the nursing profession, “Nars,” where she co-stars with Jodie Sta. Maria, Agot Isidro, newcomer Jon Avila, and Coco Martin in the role of a gay nurse. This is directed by Adolfo Alix, Jr. , who did acclaimed works like “Donsol” and “Kadin” and will also direct the Ken Zhu-Iza Calzado starrer, “Batanes. ”

Is it true Jen has split with Patrick Garcia? “No, nagtampo lang siya when I failed to show up sa birthday niya in 'SOP'. But I got sick naman talaga. Sandali lang at okay na uli kami. ”

We heard that Jen's mom is very happy about her reunion with Mark. “Mas boto talaga si Mommy Lydia kay Mark,” someone tells us. “Kaya ayun, nagseselos si Patrick nang husto at nagbabanta raw na pupunta na lang sa States para doon mag-aral after matapos ang 'Fantastic Man' niya with Mark. ”

'DONSOL' MAKES IT AS ENTRY TO OSCARS

DIRECTOR Adolfo Alix is glad that his “Donsol” was chosen as our entry in the foreign language film category in the next Oscars. “It's a great honor,” he says.

This turns out to be a very busy year for Adolf. He has just finished “Tambolista” for ABS-CBN Cinema One and will now start “Nars. ” He hopes to finish this by September 30 then he'll start “Batanes” on October 2. How did he get to do “Nars”?

“It's the first venture of Carl & Carl Productions of Carlo Maceda and Dr. Carlos Balita who owns nursing review centers,” he says. “They called me as they want to do a film about the nursing profession. We developed a concept then I asked Agnes de Guzman to write it as I was busy with 'Tambolista'.

We researched on the demographics of nursing students and the five major characters in the film are based on this. Jennylyn plays Ela, a poor girl sent by her parents, Jaclyn Jose and Allan Paule, to be a nurse so she can work abroad and help them get out of their poverty. Jodi is Adrinne, whose parents are both OFWs. She's given money, but she pines for their love and presence. She wants to work in Australia but in their community service program in school, her eyes are opened to some realities in our country that will make her change her mind. Agot is Marissa, who's already a doctor.

She wants to go to the U. S. but can't be accepted as a doctor so she takes up nursing to pursue her American dream. Coco is Noel, a gay who wants to practice in Europe where gay marriages are allowed. Jon is Liam, his parents are both Pinoys in the U. S. but he opts to study here and discovers his roots. He also falls in love with Jennylyn. The movie is about their friendship and what happens to them on their last year in nursing school. ”

Carlo Maceda's wife, Aleck Bovick, showed up at their storycon and we wonder why she's not in the cast. “We aim to produce three films to help sustain the industry,” says Carlo. “Pero doon na si Aleck sa second movie na gagawin namin. ”

DIETHER GOES DIGITAL

IT'S the first time for Diether Ocampo to do an indie film, “Pitong Tagpo,” that premieres in SM Mall of Asia on October 1 and has seven different stories written and directed by Rahyan Carlos, shot in real time mode. “Actually, noon ko pa gusto mag-try ng digital film,” says Diether. “I'm glad Direk Rahyan offered me to do this project.

He gave me the script and after I read it, I convinced Star Magic to allow me to do the episode that's intended for me, 'Ninoy'. I really like the story as it's about a streetkid and, as you well know, I'm now involved in improving the lives of deprived children with my Kids Foundation. Very timely nga for me ang pelikulang ito as I'm really helping a lot of streetkids right now. ”

He's happy that his first indie movie is socially relevant. “The child in the 'Ninoy' episode is a petty thief and he does this in order to survive. I hope those who'll watch this film will be moved para sila, hangarin ding makatulong sa mga bata nating kailangan ng right guidance para malagay sa tamang landas. ”

KARYLLE ON POSING SEXY: DI KO PA KAYA

ANOTHER star who's happy to be part of “Pitong Tagpo” is Karylle, who is in the “Toga” episode about an OFW dad who attends the graduation of his daughter who he has not seen for a long time.

“Totoong-totoo ang story namin as there are really true stories of parents who work hard abroad just to be able to send their kids here to school,” she says. “But in the process, kulang ang communication between them kasi lumalaki ang mga bata na absent ang parents nila. I'm sure, lahat ng overseas workers na nagpakasakit for their kids, makaka-relate sa 'Toga' episode. ”

How does she feel about her boyfriend Dingdong Dantes' doing a sexy pictorial for Cosmo and taking his shirt off in the Cosmo Bash? “I didn't watch it pero napanood ko sa Internet at happy naman akong maraming girls ang naka-appreciate sa kanya dahil pinaghirapan niya talaga 'yun with regular workouts.

He used to be very conservative then at magsuot lang ako ng mini-skirt nagagalit. But when he last saw me wearing one sa 'SOP', he even said 'Nice, nice!' When people ask me now, how's your boyfriend, ang sagot ko, 'Yon, he's the number one bachelor sa Cosmo. O di ba, may yabang factor. I'm really proud of him at hindi ako nai-insecure. ”

What about her, when will she do a sexy pictorial for a men's mag? “I do have offers, pero hindi naman bagay sa'kin ang ganyan. I don't need to do it naman just because nag-pose na ng sexy ang boyfriend ko. When he was asked about it, hindi rin naman daw siya papayag. Ewan ko lang ngayong he did it na. Baka nag-iba na rin ang views niya. But as for me, huwag na lang muna. Hindi ko pa kaya. ”

FEMALE ATTRACTIONS IN 'ZAIDO'

ONE of the attractions of GMA-7's new telefantasya that starts on Monday, “Zaido,” are the young ladies called the Amazonas, played by Arci Muñoz as Amasonang Puti, she acts as the conscience of the amazonas who can't decide whether to side with the good or with the bad; LJ Reyes as Amasonang Lila, the fastest among the amazonas whose weapon is called kali; Iwa Motto as Amasonang Itim, the leader of the amazonas who's an expert with bladed weapons; Melissa Avelino as Amasonang Rosas, the strongest amazona who's a martial arts expert; and Vaness del Moral as Amasonang Kahel, a gun expert and sharpshooter.

Arci is the tallest among them and has the stance and poise of a beauty queen. “We had to train well for our role as we will be doing a lot of stunts and action scenes,” she says.

PAOLO ON GENDER QUESTION: DI NA AKO NAPIPIKON

AN actor who plays an unconventional role in “Zaido” is Paolo Ballesteros, who plays the cross dressing Ida garbed in a flamboyant woman's costume. Why did he accept the role when he's already being rumored to be gay? “I know the character of Ida kasi napanood ko ang Shaider noong araw and I know it's a good role as I play the high priest of the Kuuma, kalaban ng Zaido,” he says. “Okay lang kahit bading siya. Thankful akong may trabaho ako at sa panahon ngayon, hindi na tayo dapat masyadong choosy. Kakaibang challenge ang role as Ida dahil transvestite siya. As for the people who question my gender, hindi na ako napipikon. Bale wala na lang. Basta pagbutihin ko na lang ang performance ko. They can criticize me for my performance but what I do with my private life, I don't need to defend myself or prove anything to anyone as long as kilala ko ang pagkatao ko. ”

'RUSH TV'S' MALE HOSTS

STAR Magic's teen heartthrobs Dino Imperial and Joaqui Mendoza, are with the new youth show, “Rush TV,” that starts airing on Studio 23 tonight from 6 to 7:30 and will be shown from Monday to Sunday. Dino, 19, is a regular in “Abt Ur Luv” on ABS-CBN and a much sought after endorser seen in the Coke, PLDTDSL, Teriyaki Boy commercials. He's known for his crazy antics on and off cam and his zany personality makes him a perfect host of “Rush TV” which is bursting with the energy of youth. “Sabi nga nila, bagay na bagay ang kakulitan ko sa show,” he quips.

Joaqui, 19, was discovered in “PBB Teens” and is now a communication arts sophomore at the Ateneo, where he is a taekwondo sports scholar. He aims to share his knowledge of various sports with the viewers of “Rush TV. ”

Another male host of “Rush TV” is Sam Gogna, 24, who is of Indian ancestry but was born and raised in Manila. He finished legal management at the Ateneo and currently does boardwork as a DJ on Magic 89. 9 from 9 p. m. to 12 mn. He has an outgoing personality and, just like Dino, can be crazy on and off cam.

PAUL BETTER-LOOKING THAN TONI?

SO many girls say Toni Gonzaga is so lucky to have a boyfriend like Director Paul Soriano who is not only so handsome but also very articulate. When Paul gave his side in “Entertainment Live” about the Camille Prats non-issue where he refused to comment about her pregnancy, he sounded so sincere when he explained that he didn't mean to slight anyone. When he said “no comment,” he just wanted to avoid the issue totally, but John Prats misinterpreted it, so he said sorry to John. You can also glean his Christian values and orientation from his statements, which is quite rare among guys these days.

Most writers think Paul will give many actors a run for their money if ever he'd go into acting, just like his late great grandfather, Nestor de Villa. “Sa totoo lang, nakaka-insecure si-yang maging boyfriend sa sobrang kapogian niya,” says one writer. “Maganda pa nga siya kay Toni, e. ”
