| KC not surprised by Gabby's comingAuthor: Aster Amoyo FORMER matinee idol Gabby Concepcion flew back into town after 13 years of absence and was warmly welcomed upon his return. "I really felt good. I can't describe exactly how I feel but I do feel the joy of being back," says the former Regal baby who metamorphosed into an award-winning actor. Gabby left for the US in 1995 amidst all the intrigues. "Yes, I wanted to go back to the Philippines but I didn't to leave what I was busy with in the United States. But there's something I have to attend to here. " Gabby is referring to his ailing dad, Rollie Concepcion, who has a heart condition and he wants to be beside him whatever happens. The elder Concepcion couldn't afford to travel due to his health, the reason why he had to stay in the Philippines. Gabby also said his daughter KC Concepcion is also one of the reasons why he made the trip back home. He had wanted to surprise KC about his coming home but he was the one surprised when KC told him that it's news all over town that he's set to make return to the Philippines. Gabby says KC is beginning another chapter in her life now that she has finished college and is embarking on a showbiz career. He says he would allow KC to go out on dates although he could be strict. "She has her own life now and she has always led a life away from me," he added. And in case he bumps into ex-wife Sharon Cuneta one of these days in the ABS-CBN studios, Gabby says he would like to talk to her. "We've talked before. I mean, I'm glad she has a life here and I have a life over there. I'm glad we have a life away from each other and we have moved forward. " CLAMOR FOR KC-RICHARD MOVIE HOPELESS? AT the press conference for "I Am KC," some of the words used to describe or introduce her were "showbiz royalty" and "princess. " The press in attendance agreed that these were the apt words to describe KC, being the daughter of Megastar Sharon Cuneta and erstwhile matinee idol Gabby Concepcion. Being tagged as a princess and showbiz royalty somehow makes her uncomfortable. She respects other young actresses who came before her and KC doesn't even want to think that she has special privilege that's why she's called princess. She watches the shows of other young actresses like Bea Alonzo, Angelica Panganiban, and Judy Ann Santos. She wouldn't want to think of the "princess" tag. "I just want to do my job well. I want to do my best para naman po hindi ako mapahiya sa mga nakakatrabaho ko na matagal na sa industriyang ito," says KC. She doesn't put into her head that she's a showbiz royalty and that she deserves special treatment for such stature. She was not brought up that way. ""Naiilang po ako pag sinasabing prinsesa ako. Besides, there are other showbiz sons and daughters who are also active in showbiz," she added. While there is a clamor for KC to do a project with Richard Gutierrez, this seems far fetched since Richard belongs to the Kapuso network while KC is certified Kapamilya. But if only ABS-CBN and GMA would forget the network war, a movie featuring KC and Richard would surely be a blockbuster. EJAY'S SECRET ONE of the early favorites among the viewers of PBB Teen Edition Plus is the promdie hottie Ejay Falcon or E-J for short. The 18-year-old young man hails from Oriental Mindoro. He was born on November 21, 1989. He is six feet tall. He studies at University of Manila. Some groups have started urging people on the Internet to vote for him. At first glance, Ejay doesn't look the typical promdi. He holds himself with seemingly urban confidence ready to take on anything. But as one gets to know him, the truth about his hometown begins to show through. But is not something that he hides. In a perfect Tagalog with deeply ingrained Mindoro accent (with shades of the Visayan), he will tell you that he grew up in the deep parts of Pola island that has not been reached by electricity and where people take their daily bath in the river. Their only entertainment is basketball and community TV powered by generator that runs three hours daily from 6-9pm, enabling them to watch TV Patrol and early primetime soap. Despite his timidity acquired from his rural origins and strict Christian upbringing, Ejay is courageous and determined, ready to take on anything just to free his family from the poverty that broke his parents' marriage. He is hopeful that Pinoy Big Brother is the first big step to realizing this dream. The Company IN TRUMPETS' SUMMER WORKSHOP TWENTY-three years in the music business has taught Moy Ortiz, Annie Quintos, Sweet Plantado, Cecile Bautista and Jay Marquez—collectively known as The Company—a lot of things, which they are eager to pass on to the next generation of performers this summer through Trumpets Musicademy's "Star Power" workshop. "Star Power" workshop is not a basic voice workshop. Rather, it will teach students how to enhance the other aspects of live performance, from writing and delivering spiels to imaging. It will also touch on managing finances, bookings, dealing with the media, repertoire-building, microphone techniques, staging and choreography, and even recording a demo. Classes will be held at the Podium from April 2 to May 31 and will be open to teens and adults who should already have had the benefit of basic vocal training in pop singing, whether it's R&B, standards, or straight-up pop-jazz. For details, visit or call Trumpets Musicademy, 5F, Shangri-La Plaza Mall, 636-2842 or 0917-896-4034. You can also check the Trumpets Website. Trumpets Playshop, began in 1993, also offers courses in children's theater, children's musical theater, musical theater for teens and adults, street dance for teens and adults, public speaking and hosting, modeling, photography, and animation.
