Kapamilya, an empty slogan?

Wowowee host Willie Revillame singlehandedly gave the Kapamilya network the top-rating noontime show it has always sought. Yet despite this accomplishment, it failed to support him, even went to the extent of suspending him for two weeks, in connection with the trouble he got himself in regarding the live streaming involving the transfer of Cory Aquinos casket. This is contrary to ABS-CBNs explanation that he had taken a leave of absence. Willie took the suspension the Saturday before it would have taken effect on Monday because he was in a hurry to implement it.

Exactly today, he has been out of Wowowee for one week and two shows that is, if he has not returned either yesterday or today. This has been the longest non-sickness leave he has taken. Hes usually in a hurry to return to the show, sometimes straight from the hospital, but this time hes taking his time. Hes even dropping hints that hes ready to be eased out of the high-rating show. He has cleared up his dressing room which at one time served as his living quarters.

As yet, Willies remained unmoved. Dipping ratings and demonstrations of support from loyal viewers have not seemed to change his mind. Having known him for sometime, I have an idea why hes doing this: Hes not happy with the way ABS-CBN failed to support him. The Kapamilya network was responsible for the live streaming mistake and he did what he had to do. He apologized immediately to the Aquino family and it was accepted as announced by Ballsy Cruz, the eldest among the siblings, Kris and Sen. Noynoy, the bearer of the Aquino legacy.

This makes Buzzstation ask: Is this how the Kapamilya network treats a high-performing and loyal family member?

Ida reports directly to lawyer Gozon

Ida Ramos Henares confirms the buzz that shes now reporting directly to GMA president and CEO, lawyer Felipe Gozon. In line with this, the GMA Artist Center has been renamed and reorganized as the GMA Talent Development and Management Department. It has effected major changes to strengthen the foothold of the department for the benefit of its 100 plus artists with the division of talent management put under the care of Arsi Baltazar.

Arsi is an expert in this field with 25 years of experience neatly tucked under his belt. Arsi is considered one of the most competent, well-loved old-timers in the industry, his instinctive knowledge of this business honed through years of experience. Under Arsi are two satellite support groups: The booking agents and the handlers. The booking agents receive all offers for the talents, while the handlers filter these. It is Arsis job to discern which ones would take the talent to the next level.

"You recognize a talent when you see one," Arsi says when asked what it takes to manage talents." You immediately have to know what this specific talent can offer the public. But more than that, you also look ahead to know what he can still become. This job is never stagnant. You keep progressing."

How does the GMA Talent Department make-over the artists? Arsi enumerates, "We style for them, we let them go through John Robert Powers sessions, we give them a crash course on personality improvement and even counseling, and we field them in international competitions so they can best hone their skills and adopt a more global perspective. We make sure that they are visible in every medium available to us. We also branch out and gather resources outside because we feel that the artists, and ultimately the network will benefit from those partnerships outside."

Its an ongoing process. He does not stop developing stars under his care. When do you stop developing a star? "We always think of ways to improve them. They have to be perceived as set apart from the rest simply because they are artistas."

Pay first before friendship Nina to Nyoy

Rep. William Irwin Tieng lauded

for amusement tax reduction law

"Im really thankful that the bill was finally approved," Rep. William Irwin C. Tieng receives a plaque of appreciation given at the thanksgiving dinner for the passage of Republic Act 9640, which reduces amusement tax from 30 percent to a minimum of 10 percent. Rep. Tieng was the main proponent of the House Bill 5624, which led to the amendment of the amusement tax law.

"That will encourage economic growth and efficiency of the Philippine entertainment industry, the creation of new jobs and increased reliance on market forces utilizing Filipino creative resources," he explains how the new law will benefit the local entertainment industry. "I am glad that I was instrumental in pushing that bill, which will greatly help local entertainment."
