| Kapusos daytime royaltyAuthor: Isah V. Red Unexpected but anticipated. This is how the guys at the Kapuso network feel about Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal who are now being hailed as the new royalty of afternoon TV. The networks Sine Novela presents Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin recently posted the highest rating ever by a show on the daytime block. Its 32.4-percent rating ever is undisputedly record-breaking performance that even the two stars are incredulous and at a loss for words. Prior to the whopping 32.4-percent rating, Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin had been posting above 21-percent rating since it premiered last March 2. More so, this Sine Novela offering has garnered remarkable overnight ratings of 29 percent for three times. Based on the survey conducted by AGB Nielsen Media, the show posted 29.9 percent last April 1, 29.8 percent last April 28, and 29.1 percent last April 29. We asked Maryo J. de los Reyes how he feels about this newest phenomenon on afternoon television. He said, We have a very good concept, the performances are believable, and Aljur and Kris are the typical teens that anybody, rich or poor, young or old, can easily relate to. Their problems are real, it happens everyday in any neigHBOrhood, hence any viewer is not alienated from the story of the two lead stars and how they cope with life. Aljur is very grateful that his first major lead role has been received warmly (I must say hotly) by not only his fans but everyone who are watching the dramatic fare Monday to Friday (after Paano Ba Ang Mangarap?). In Tagalog, he credits Maryo J. de los Reyes in shaping him into the character that he plays in the series. Ang laki talaga ng tulong ng director, kasi siya ang guide naming lahat kung anong klase kaming mga karakter sa series, he said in between forks of grilled tuna at the Executive Lounge of the GMA building. Kris Bernal, who is rumored to be Aljurs girlfriend but denies having made any commitment to his co-star (who also affirms their no-commitment status), is very happy, like Aljur, about the success of the series. We didnt expect this to rate this high, she said, but thanks to everyone who have been very supportive of us. She means, of course, the love team. The two are slated to do a movie for GMA Films and Regal Entertainment. Ara Minas return to Kapuso seemed to have done her good, as well. Her sexy scenes with Aljur has given the series a spice that made it more than just an ordinary afternoon drama fare. It is adult but at the same time sensible drama, Also in the cast are Lloyd Samartino, Juan Rodrigo, Maritoni Fernandez, Mariz Ricketts, Mike Tan, Maybelyn dela Cruz, Paulo Avelino, Say Alonzo, Jhake Vargas, and Carlo Aquino. GSM Blues pretty endorser Young and pretty actress Anne Curtis is still the face of GSM Blue. She appears in a new commercial that we seen on TV these days. Anne graced the launch held last May 4 at the Malayan Plaza poolside, where the print and broadcast media were given special preview of a refreshingly new commercial, which the GSM Blue management say will be the talk of the town and in line with Annes forthcoming series The Wedding. Im very proud to be the endorser of GSM Blue. My happiness emanates from the fact that this partnership remains very strong after all these years. Time flies so fast although I think it has already been five years since, said the 24-year-old Filipino Australian, who cautions everyone to be responsible even as she endorses GSM Blue. If theres someone who will always be eternally young and refreshing to look at, its Anne. Just like GSM Blue, Anne and friendship among ka-tropas will never go out of style, GSMI marketing head Nelson Elises said. GSM Blue is built on youthful friendships that last for long time. Youth is a time to make friends and bond with them so this is where we come in, GSM Blue brand manager Bong Gregorio added on the product by Ginebra San Miguel Inc. The said TVC is angled on the usual barkadahan moment, with Anne becoming the focal point towards the end. Anne has gone from being a child actress to one of the most wholesome and versatile actresses of her generation. Prior to The Wedding, she was last featured in Dyosa also at ABS-CBN. She also has an upcoming movie slated this year. She also won her first Best Actress award for the movie Baler in the recent Metro Manila Film Festival. Anne is now in Spain alone and will meet up with friends in Rome, among whom is Raymond Gutierrez, twin brother of Richard, her former boyfriend. Angels Wish of Luck Angel Locsins cheerful personality and infectious enthusiasm have enabled her to succeed in various endeavors. She is an accomplished swimmer at a young age, a versatile actress that starred in crowd-drawing movies and TV series, and a respected endorser of products she believes in. Indeed, a role model to many Filipino women, Angel is the sister, friend, lover, and daughter many would like to have. Despite a multi-faceted lifestyle, she is still able to strike a balance among her varied interests, allowing her to maintain a positive disposition. Now, Angels spirit of optimism is captured in Angel Locsins dewy floral Wish of Luck fragrance, the fourth fragrance in the top-selling Avon Angel Locsin Wish line of fragrances. The Angel Locsin Wish of Luck is available to all Avon ladies starting this month, retailing at P800. Maja Salvador and Sisters in Mindoro ABS-CBNs pretty and talented actress-dancer Maja Salvador has embarked on a nationwide tour for her latest endorsement Sisters Feminine Napkins. Fernandos wish for vendors The Metro Manila Development Authoritys sustained campaign against illegal vendors is not meant to displace them but to provide them an opportunity to improve their business and boost their income. MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando gave unlicensed hawkers this assurance recently as he asked the 16 cities and lone municipality in Metro Manila to do their share by providing vendors market space at affordable price to keep them off the sidewalks. We are doing this for the public good. We are not singling out the sidewalk vendors. We are just enforcing the law for their welfare, Fernando pointed out. To prove his point, the MMDA chief cited as an example the success story of Wilfredo Aga and his wife, Nenita, who were among the illegal vendors in Marikina City in 1992. Fernando, then the newly elected mayor of Marikina, declared some areas around the public market as market zone where vendors could sell their ware without being arrested or harassed by law enforcers. The Aga couple seized the opportunity to conduct business legally. Their fish-selling business flourished and grew. From unlawful vending, the husband-and-wife team is now the proud owner of three mini-markets in Marikina, Antipolo and Quezon City. They are also the operator of the Commonwealth Public Market in Litex, the biggest and most modern market in Quezon City. If Mayor Fernando had not given us a chance, we could still be illegal vendors up to now, Nenita said. Fernando stressed that the credit goes to the Agas for choosing the side of law which, along with hard work and discipline, gave them a new break in life. At the same time, Fernando asked local government executives to humanize their campaign against illegal vendors by offering them an alternative to unlawful vending. He pointed out that sidewalks are for the public, especially pedestrians, adding that the Supreme Court has ruled that sidewalks are beyond the commerce of men. Any kind of business is not allowed on the sidewalk. Its an illegal act, Fernando said. The MMDA has so far cleared 2,000 km of the targeted 3,000 km of roads in Metro Manila.
