Katrina: I'm not a playgirl

Katrina Halili has been doing nothing but cry on TV in soapy dramas like “Magdusa Ka” and “Obra” that she now welcomes doing the role of Jasmine in “One Night Only”, the romantic comedy that’s OctoArts Films’ entry to the Metro filmfest where she shares topbilling with Alessandra de Rossi, Jennylyn Mercado, Valerie Concepcion and Diana Zubiri. “Friends kami dito ni Diana and we don’t get to meet the other characters until that one eventful night na magkikita-kita lahat ng characters at mangyayari ang lahat ng stories namin sa isang hotel sa loob lang ng isang gabi,” she says.

Some of the roles in the film were originally meant for ABS-CBN stars but they were pulled out as management thought they’d be mere support to Katrina. How did this affect her and “One Night Only”? “Ako, I wasn’t affected at all. Sayang nga kasi pantay-pantay naman ang roles naming lahat. If ever it affected the movie, siguro in a positive way kasi mas napag-usapan ito. I really want to work with the stars of ABS, but as things turned out, okay naman ang mga katrabaho ko ngayon, lalo na sina Diana at Jennylyn na parang kapatid ko na, and also Valerie and Alessandra na dati ring mga Kapuso kaya masaya kami sa set. ”

Writer-director Joey Reyes made sure the characters of the five girls were written to fit their respective personalities. “Lahat kami, maganda ang role kaya walang sapawang nangyari. Our different characters also allowed the film to present different strokes of comedy kaya mas nakakatawa. ”

As Jasmine, Katrina portrays a sexy playgirl who plays with fire by being involved with powerful men. “The trouble my character eventually gets into will be the highlight of my role. Si Jasmine kasi, she has multiple boyfriends. She’s set to fly to Macau with her new Chinese lover when her hot-blooded benefactor, Ricky Davao as Congressman Facundo, decides that tonight is the night he will have his “return of investment” on her kaya nagkaroon ng matinding conflict. How she divides her time between her two lovers in one night is really a riot. ”

Is the role tailor made for her as she’s also said to be a playgirl in real life? “Hoy, sobra naman kayo. I’m not like that in real life. Ang layo ko diyan, huh. Never akong nagsabay-sabay ng boyfriends. Magulo yun at mas gusto ko ang tahimik na buhay kaya one at a time lang lagi. Pero suitors, yes, sabay-sabay silang manligaw, pero pinatigil ko na ang karamihan para huwag na silang umasa. At never rin akong magiging mistress ng DOM like what Jasmine does. Handa akong kumayod sa marangal na paraan. ”

“One Night Only” is an official entry to the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival from Octo Arts Films. This five-in-one romantic comedy also stars Paolo Contis,Jon Avila, Joross Gamboa, Ogie Diaz, Chokoleit, and Manilyn Reynes.
