Koolchx, hot chicks

Author: Edgar Cruz
Column: BuzzStation

Koolchx is arguably the hottest among the local sexy girl groups today. Johnny “Mr. M” Manahan last year organized the group, initially named Hotchx, out of the sexiest Star Magic members. He wanted a local version of American and British girl groups hitting the musical charts with their sexy dance songs. Of course, they owe their roots to the Spice Girls. Initially, the group guested in ASAP and later became a Wowowee regular. This March, the Koolchx is featured on the cover of Maxim. The inside pages will feature individual members in daring photos. Good thing about the Koolchx, members have individual showbiz careers.

In the feature, Cassandra Ponti’s gray contact lenses give her eyes a blue or green color depending on the source of light. This 26-year-old, 5’ 7” dusky beauty from Tagum, Davao, is clearly Koolchx’s most popular. Nina Dolino is the advertising-model-turned Wazzup, Wazzup controversial host, a product of the show’s Tadjocks contest. This 25-year-old, 5’ 5” looker has to-die-for olive skin. Gemma Fitzgerald was a Pinoy Dream Academy aspirant who distinguished herself with her killer smile, pleasant disposition and devotion to her craft. An Australian-Filipino, this sexy and charming mestiza of 22 years previously graced the cover of Diether Ocampo’s Uno Magazine. Gemma is single again. Talent runs in the Fitzgerald family. She is scheduled to do a show in Ratsky Morato with her sister very soon.

Princess Ryan is the ex-Bora cast member who competed in the recent Ms. Bikini Philippines International. She is what you’d call “materiales fuertes” – big-boned, sexy in the right places and spunky. Koolchx’s youngest member at 18 years old, she will be part of a new all-girl gag show together with Kristine Hermosa. Michelle Murenec is an Australian-Filipino who was a Pinoy Dream Academy aspirant. Born in Brisbane but raised in Canberra, this 5’ 4”, 23-year-old with distinct Australian features left her hometown to pursue her dream showbiz career here. Malaya Lewandowski, 19 years old, with fine Caucasian features, is so secure she could tease about it. Before she joined the Star Magic family, she won several beauty contests in the US, the last three being Miss California Teen USA, Miss Teen Filipina and Miss Fiesta Filipina.

The beach life for the Astigs

This Saturday at 10 a.m, in Astigs, the barkada spends the next couple of days in a beach resort sponsored by Epi’s mother, Cindy. Not knowing that Epi and Janine have broken up, Cindy treats them for a short getaway. Of course, the group could not be happier except Janine and Epi who need to pretend that they are still very much together, at least, for their parents’ eyes. But while they are having a hard time putting up an act, Blake meets an unlikely friend in Wave, the resort’s resident lifeguard. Blake is surprised to meet Wave for he has been appearing to him in his dreams. And when they finally meet, Blake feels a certain bond with him. It turns out that Wave is his long-lost twin brother. The two bond some more and promise not to break their bond. But it seems like the promise will soon be tested when Sandy, a pretty and charming girl at the beach, comes into the picture. Who is Sandy? Find out today!

The extraordinary Gaby dela Merced

Racer and ex-Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition (Season 2) housemate Gaby dela Merced is the type who seizes the moment. She studies very carefully the things she engages herself in and when the right project comes up, she goes all out. This is probably the reason she excels in everything she does. Starting Mar. 9, Gaby’s going to host Gaby’s Xtraordinary Files, a 45-minuter off ABS-CBN every Sunday for one season, the pre-program show of ASAP. She says, “I can’t sing or do drama so I had to wait for a project to suit my talent. Gaby’s Xtraordinary Files was offered so I agreed to do it. It shows extraordinary stories from the Discovery Channel collection. The first episode features the courtship of the desert people in the Middle East. The man will throw a stone to the woman he is attracted to. If the feeling is mutual, she will flash a mirror to him.”

It’s off season now, which is why car racing is not occupying her time. But she will be leave this month to attend the second phase of race schooling at the Lynnt St. James. Did she get the sponsors she was shooting when she joined PBBCE2? She answers, “Still prospecting. Getting a sponsor is a constant struggle in racing. It costs US$18,000 to race abroad! It’s very expensive. This amount does not even include airfares!”

About her love life, she remains a good friend of Donnie Geisler. When asked if he had showed signs he would like to court her, she shrugged her head. She has not met his son. She adds, “I think the boy’s staying with his mother in Singapore.” Her love life is zilch. She comments, “None. It’s not in my vocabulary.” When asked what her type of guy is, she answered he must be the “sporty and scruffy type.” She wants him with lots of facial hair. Her showbiz crush is Piolo Pascual! She adds, “He’s physically cute. But I don’t know him; that’s why I can’t tell a lot about him.”

The trusty Raphael Martinez

Raphael Martinez turned 18 last Feb. 13. Buzzstation met him at the Star Magic birthday bash for Feb. as hosted by Rikka Dylim. Except for the face, Raphael has lost weight, what he attributes to regular basketball games with the likes of Alwyn Uytingco, Mark Herras, Mike Tan and Joseph Bitangcol. I learned from him that talent managers Manny Valera and Leo Dominguez tried to recruit him separately to be managed by them. But mom Karen Martinez opted out, preferring her son to stay with Star Magic. Except for his semi-regular appearances in ASAP, he does not have projects right now. Not that he’s complaining; he just want to have a new assignment soon. It has been a while since his last TV appearance. He played Piolo Pascual’s brother in Sa Piling Mo.

I told Raphael that he must be a star material if he wants to have more television of movie projects. He seems to be okay on the thrice-a-month out-of-town appearances, but he is getting edgy. He desires to return to television. I told him that even if he’s good-looking, even if he’s taller than most actors at 5’9”, even if he acts well, he will appear bigger in the small screen as the medium has a way of bloating the figure. As being an actor is an aspirational thing to most televiewers, they will always look for the model types. Raphael seems to have understood. He knows the importance of looking good and has started to work on it. He promised to be in top shape by April 1. For the time being, Raphael is concentrating on his studies at ABS-CBN Distance Learning Center. He is finishing high school this year. He wants to take up a business course when he enters college.

Other Star Magic birthday boys and girls for Feb. are Alywn Uytingco (Feb. 11, 21), who is doing a show with Boyz.com at Zirkoh Greenhills today; Roxanne Ginoo; AJ Perez (Feb. 17, 15); Empress Shuck (Feb. 19), who now has Dino Imperial as love team partner; and Maegan Young (Feb. 27, 18), who now has Enchong Dee as love team partner. So there’s no more competition between Dino and Enchong for Empress’s affection.

Mickey’s dance school

Pinoy Big Brother Season 3 housemate Mickey Perz, John Prats and Limited Edition are conducting a dance workshop this summer at Golds Gym starting today, March 1. They will be holding classes every Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. and every Sunday, from 4 to 7 p.m. There’s no need to be a Golds Gym member. For inquiries, contact 0922-415-1040.

Talking point

Kaye dela Cruz: “I’m a big fan of Bea Alonzo. Puwede po bang humingi ng suporta na i-convince ang ABS-CBN na si Bea ang gawing nilang gaganap bilang Betty sa palabas na Betty La Fea? She has the potential to do the role well. Kapag nakita n’yo po ang picture niya noong naka-brace siya sobrang kamukha niya po si Betty. We want Bea to have her own show so she can prove na she can act well even hindi niya kasama si John Lloyd Cruz. Looking forward po to your support.”
