| Korina lets Senator Mar shineAuthor: Ethel Ramos AT the party cum tsikahan which Sen. Mar Roxas tendered for the entertainment press at the Bahay Na Puti in Araneta Center in Quezon City, everyone knew Korina Sanchez was around. But the popular newscaster chose not to steal the limelight from her boyfriend. Not at this particular gathering and not even if most of those present were her friends. Besides, there was Senator Mars mom, Mrs. Judy Araneta-Roxas, who was assisted by her sister, Mrs. Baby Fores, to help welcome and entertain the guests. Present also were Senator Mars sister, Ria, his cousins, the Fores sisters, Veanna, Gaita (yes, the well-known chef and restaurateur) and Bedes. These ladies stayed until the end of the party. In his welcome speech, Senator Roxas acknowledged the presence of Korina, referring to her as the love of his life. Aside from the sumptuous food which was prepared by Gaita, another highlight of the gathering was the raffle, where everyone won. Some lucky ones went home with two prizes. "Lets do this again," Senator Mar suggested. Yes, Senator Mar, why not? *** Before bidding him good-bye, the entertainment press present asked Senator Mar what it can do for him in return. "Id be glad if you can help me publicize the bill which I authored and which passed naman, the Cheaper Medicines Act. "I fought for this bill for ten years, as I know cheaper medicines will be beneficial, especially to the poor people. In the process, nakatanggap ako ng matinding bugbog sa pharmaceutical industry. Kung anu-anong putik ang itinapon ng sector na ito sa akin, pero di ako natinag. "Alam ko kasing kailangan ng isang batas na magpapababa ng presyo ng gamot sa sa bansa." He cited the need for more Botika ng Bayan, which serves as the outlet for cheap medicine, "The brands of medicine sold in Botika ng Bayan are the same as those sold in popular and big drug stores. "Halimbawa, ang klase ng gamot na ito (naming a popular brand of analgesic) na mabibili ng P24.75 sa isang kilalang botika ay may presyo lang na P11.25 sa Botika ng Bayan." *** A romance on the wane, we were told, is that of a comedian-dancer and a TV host-actress. They have a child and have been together for nearly four years. The past year (2008) saw the break-up of marriages and relationships of a lot of celebrities, including that of Beth Tamayo and Jimmy Wongs. The couple have yet to give any hints for their separation. Beth has remained incommunicado to date. They were married for four years. Their long relationships notwithstanding, sweethearts Karylle and Dingdong Dantes and Jolina Magdangal and Atty. Bebong Muñoz called it quits, too. Like Beth, Jolina has chosen to keep mum about the reason for the break-up. But she did allow herself to be interviewed on TV where she simply announced that her six-year romance with Atty. Bebong is over. In the case of Karylle, she neither confirms nor denies that a third party caused her decision to call it quits with Dingdong. "At first," friends close to Karylle said, "when Dingdongs team-up with Marian (Rivera) became successful, Karylle thought she could play the role of supportive girlfriend. This was the case until she discovered that shes just human and could only take so much." Five months after their break-up, Karylle and Dingdong have finally accepted their fate and are both, to quote Karylle, "moving forward." Source: Malaya |
