CINEMA AT ITS BEST - Scarier but more entertaining the second time around.

That is writer-director Jun Lana speaking about his current assignment, 'Tarot,' produced by Regal and topbilled by primetime queen Marian Rivera and Dennis Trillo. Jun earlier directed 'Kulam,' also for Regal, which scared a lot of moviegoers.

He promised a scarier experience in 'Tarot' albeit more entertaining.

Jun says a horror movie should be like a roller-coaster ride. "It should be enjoyed. It is really pure entertainment. I think horror is cinema at its best and you shouldn't hold back as a director."

EXTRAORDINARY GIFT - Marian has an extraordinary gift in 'Tarot,' seeing a person's future with the use of tarot cards. Warned by her mother not to use her gift, she broke it for love.

Her beau, Dennis, went missing and while others thought he was dead, Marian felt otherwise. To find out where he is, she used the tarot cards of her dead grandmother.

The horrors of the tarot cards begin.

In the cast of 'Tarot' are Roxanne Guinoo, Celia Rodriguez, Glaiza de Castro, Nina Jose, Ama Quiambao, Alwyn Uytingco, Dante Rivero, Susan Africa, Rich Asuncion, and Miss Gloria Romero.

CONSULTANT ON THE SET - But will 'Tarot' have a negative effect on fortune-tellers and tarot-card readers?

Direk Jun says, "That won't happen because we did our research well. I don't like people saying negative things about tarot cards because of our film. We hired a consultant who's always on the set. He guided us especially when it comes to reading tarot cards."

Marian and Dennis were no believers in tarot cards - until a lady reader revealed past and present incidents and situations in their private lives with unnerving accuracy.

By the way, with 'Darna's' soaring ratings, Marian Rivera has reclaimed her title as primtime queen.

CHARO AS TITA CORY - Reader Mel Caparas says that if Vilma Santos has no time to portray President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino in a filmbio, he suggests Charo Santos instead. Why not? Charo is a good actress and has the maturity, depth, and range to be Tita Cory onscreen.

Remember that she is Asia's best actress for 'Itim'.

With regard to Piolo Pascual as Ninoy Aquino, Mel believes he's too young to be paired with either Vilma or Charo. He reminds that Piolo played Ate Vi's son in 'Dekada '70.'

On another subject, Mel is sad that to date Tia Dely Magpayo has not been proclaimed National Artist (for radio). Tia Dely is masa and the screening committee from the CCP and NCCA is elitist. She's been nominated but didn't make it to the short list.
