Luis and Angel’s spat a gimmick?

WE VISITED the taping of "La Lola" which is now on its last few weeks and which will be replaced by "Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang" on February 9.

The location was in Manila Memorial Park and the scenes they were shooting revolve on the wake of Don Aguirre (Eddie Garcia) who was assassinated by a hired assassin per the instruction of the evil mother and son team of Jackielou Blanco and Marvin Agustin.

It was a big scene and there were many extras, with director Dominic Zapata orchestrating the whole thing as the supposedly dead Eddie Garcia will rise from the grave to shock the people who plotted his murder. We cannot tell you the details about how Eddie confronts his killers, so as not to spoil your viewing pleasure. But it’s really one climactic sequence in "La Lola" that you should watch.

Another question that remains hanging in the air is whether Lola (Rhian Ramos) will regain her original persona as Lalo (Wendell Ramos). We already know the answer but don’t expect us to tell you how the series would end. You have to watch and find out for yourself.

Meanwhile, it’s obvious that its leads, Rhian and JC de Vera are now so cozy with each other. JC was never this sweet to Yasmien Kurdi when they did three shows consecutively. It’s clear that he finds Rhian much more attractive as he even gave her an expensive Louis Vuitton wallet for Christmas.

"Original, hah," says Rhian. "Hindi fake. Nakakatawa nga kasi when he was about to give it to me, kabibili ko rin lang ng dalawang bagong Nine West wallets and I was transferring all my IDs to one of them. When he saw it, sumama ang mukha niya. ‘Yun pala, it’s because he’s also giving me a wallet. At ‘yung wallet niya, may lamangmoney. But I won’t say anymore how much. E, malay ko bang ‘yun ang present niya sa’kin? Kasi earlier, we agreed na wala na lang bigayan ng regalo for Christmas. But now, everytime he sees me using the wallet he gave me, napapangiti siya."

And what did she give him in turn? "A Bayantel landline. Kaya ngayon, he calls me up kapag walang work and we can talk all night kasi unlimited calls ‘yun."

So it’s true that they’re now really going steady?

"We’re friends, very close friends. I think it’s too early for us to say na kami na. It will take a longer time for us to get there, but I’m happy where we are now. Masaya kaming magkasama. Ang bonding namin, sa food, kasi pareho kaming malakas kumain. Pero siempre, talo ako sa kanya. Mahilig kami sa mga eat all you can and I can see malakas talaga siyang kumain."

This week in "La Lola," JC as Facundo decides to migrate to the US with Sabrina (Angelika de la Cruz), who he thinks is carrying his baby. But Iris (Gladys Reyes) hears Sabrina talking on the phone with Hector (Marco Alcaraz) and finds out that it’s really Hector who’s the father of Sabrina’s child. She records the conversation secretly and lets Facundo listen to it. Naturally, Facundo gets mad and confronts Sabrina about it.

Polo Ravales never admitted that he was on with Jean Garcia and newcomer Krissa Mae. But now, he does not deny that he has a new girlfriend, a balikbayan from the US named Bianca Villamores who’ll join the next Bb. Pilipinas pageant. "I’m sure kukulitin naman ako about her so inaamin ko nang we’re on," he says. "I won’t give anymore details na lang. Basta the important thing is I’m honest with the press in admitting that I’m in a relationship now and it’s Bianca, not any other girl who’s being linked to me."

So Bianca is the reason he broke up with Krissa Mae who was, in turn, the reason his relationship with Jean went sour?

"I never said naging kami ni Krissa Mae. Yes, we were going out at wala namang masama roon, ‘di ba? So paano kami magbe-breakkung hindi naman naging kami? Magkasama lang kami ni Krissa Mae sa ‘Gagambino’ kaya naging close kami. As for Jean, I respect her so much so I don’t want to say anything na lang na puedeng makasakit sa kanya. I want to keep our friendship kahit nagkaroon kami ng problema."

Polo says he’s supporting Bianca’s candidacy in the Bb. Pilipinas pageant wholeheartedly. "But I tell her she should be careful kasi parang showbiz din ‘yan, e. May mga intriga rin, so she should be strong and prepare for anything, lalo na sa mga isasagot niya when she’s interviewed."

Will he allow her to join showbiz?

"It’s up to her if she wants to. Basta ako, nakasuporta lang sa kanya anuman ang gusto niyang gawin."

Is it true that he brought Bianca to a taping of "Gagambino" and this caused a commotion as Krissa Mae was making some snide remarks about her?

"Bianca did visit me sa set kasi gusto niya lang makita how taping a show goes, pero walang parinigang nangyari."

Well, Piolo might deny it but we heard that because of that alleged incident, GMA-7 management has just issued a directive telling all their talents that bringing one’s girlfriend or boyfriend to the set is now prohibited as it disrupts the taping.

Iya Villania is happy to be part of the cast of GMA Films-Regal’s "When I Met U" even if she’s now with the Kapamilya network.

"I have a contract kasi with Regal kaya napasama ako rito," she says.

She plays Tracy, the rich girlfriend of Richard Gutierrez. "I’m the one who sends him to school para siya maging pilot. Also, he has a father here na sugarol, played by Dante Rivero, at ako naman, pinapautang ko lagi ng pansugal kasi I want Richard to be beholden to me. Gusto ko tumanaw siya ng malaking utang na loob sa’kin so I can control him. But then, he meets KC and falls for her."

Is she playing a villain role? "No, hindi naman kontrabida ang dating ng role ko. I’m a good person at may pagka-martyrnga kasi I’m willing to give everything kay Richard. It’s just I’m so much in love with him, so I try my best to fight for him. But eventually, when I saw and realized na wala akong laban kay KC, I give way.

"I’m really glad to do this movie kasi my first show when I got here from Australia five years ago was with Richard, ‘Click.’ We were introduced there by GMA-7 along with Angel Locsin. Then I moved to ABS. This movie is also a reunion for me with Direk Joel Lamangan, who has previously directed me in Regal’s ‘Aishite Imasu.’ Si KC naman, nakakasama ko na sa ‘ASAP’ kaya masaya kaming lahat lagi sa shooting."

Iya is now busy promoting her first album, "Finally," released by Viva Records. On TV, she’s busy with "Us Girls" on Studio 23, "ASAP" on ABS-CBN, "OMG" on TV-5 and she also does VJ work on MYX. She’s open with her relationship with Drew Arellano and they’ve been on for three years now.

We got two emails asking our opinion. This is from Gina Mae Salisihan:

"Hindi po ba sumobra naman ang paglaladlad ni Rustom Padilla ng kabadingan niya? Do you think he will succeed in showbiz sa kanyang bagong persona as BB?"

We should admire Rustom/BB for his courage and brazenness, but honestly we don’t think BB will last very long in showbiz. He’ll just remain a novelty. He might initially get assignments as people will be curious to see him, but longevity in the business as BB is totally another matter as a lot more people will not take him seriously.

This is from Miranila Tombokon: "I find John Lopez of ‘Survivor’ real cute. But is it a wise decision for him to appear in ‘Daisy Siete’?"

John is cute but we don’t think he is that outstanding and he lacks the star factor that most matinee idols have. Also, so many male newcomers have been given breaks in "Daisy Siete" like the son of Bembol Roco and the foreigners introduced there like Tariq. But did they become big stars after their appearance in that show?

Jake Cuenca confronted his "Tayong Dalawa" co-star Baron Geisler at the backstage of "ASAP" last Sunday. Earlier, it was reported that Baron got drunk in a party and made some remarks that insinuated Jake is being given special treatment at ABS-CBN because of his involvement with a gay executive. At the promo of "Tayong Dalawa" in "ASAP," Jake saw Baron and asked him about the stories he heard.

"Kung may gusto kang sabihin sa’kin, sabihin mo na sa’kin nang diretso at huwag sa ibang tao," Jake allegedly told Baron, who answered with a loud voice.

Someone told us Jake felt slighted. "Feeling niya, binastos siya kasi maganda naman ang approach niya, pero pinagtaasan agad siya ng boses. He felt he’s trying to reach out in a nice kasi magkasama sila sa ‘Tayong Dalawa’ and he wants them to have a harmonious working relationship, but Baron shouted at him right away. They would have come into blows but Johnny Manahan, head of Star Magic, intervened and stopped them."

It’s said that management is now trying to arrange a peace meeting, like what it did with Claudine Barretto and Angel Locsin.

Looks like Marian Rivera’s detractors have not stopped. Someone told us that she has a video scandal on YouTube and voyeurs are now feasting on it. It’s said that her boobs were accidentally exposed while she was dancing wildly in "SOP" recently. We tried to look for the said video but it turned out to be harmless. It’s obvious Marian was wearing a flesh colored bra when it happened and there was no wardrobe malfunction as alleged by her detractors.

Apparently, every little move Marian makes is being watched by these people and they delight in speculations and scuttlebutt about her. This should make Marian extra careful. But honestly, we feel that the more they try to malign her, the more that Marian will continue to be talked about and shine brightly. As one writer said: "Mas lalo lang nilang binibigyan ng publicity at mas pinasisikat si Marian dahil laging nasa limelightat pinapag-usapan."

Gabby Concepcion is back after spending the Christmas holidays with his mom and siblings in the US. His daughter KC didn’t know he was already home when we asked her about him in Club Paradise. Gabby is very happy about the positive feedback about his surprise greeting to Sharon Cuneta in her birthday concert at the Araneta Coliseum recently

"I’m really glad na nagkaayos na kami," he says. "When my dad passed away, doon kami nagkausap uli. I felt okay na ang relationship namin so when they asked me to videotape a greeting for her birthday, pumayag agad ako."

So can they now star in a movie since it’s apparent their fans are still thrilled to see them together?

"Sa akin, okay na okay ‘yan. I’m really excited to do a movie with her again. But I’m not the only one who’ll decide, sohindi ko alam kung that will materialize and, if yes, kung kailan."

As of now, Gabby’s career is still in limbo. He still has a commitment with GMA Films that he has to honor and he can’t do any other project without the approval of Mommy Rose, who’s still legally his manager.

In her Facebook account, Angel Locsin says she’s now single again, making some writers conclude that she has really called it quits with Luis Manzano. Someone says Luis got jealous when he found out Angel is still entertaining another suitor, a very rich guy said to come from a well-known family, even if they’re already on. But in "E Live" last Saturday, where Luis is one of the regular hosts, he clarified that he and Angel are now okay. He admitted that indeed they had a misunderstanding, but they have since talked and patched things up between them.

"Naku, gimmick lang naman ‘yung kunwaring nagkagalit sila ni Luis para makatulong sa promo ng ‘Love Me Again’," says one observer. "Siempre, mas may kilig kung parehong single kunwari si Angel at ang kapareha niyang si Piolo Pascual. Ang tanong is: nakatulong ba ‘yun para mas kumita ang movie? Tanungin nyo ang bookers about the real box office take ng pelikula and they’ll tell you that the viewers didn’t love it again. Ang laki pa naman ng cost of production with location shoots in Bukidnon and Australia."
