Mainstream film makers naglunsad ng competition vs indie directors

INDIE directors beware, the mainstream directors are now taking their turf.

Yes, in cooperation with APT Entertainment, Inc, 6 directors from DGPI (Directors Guild of the Philippines, Inc) will be showing their respective digital films starting April 29 with Fuschia (Joel La-mangan), the first movie for the Sine Direk series in SM Cinemas.

The other movies are Ded Na Si Lolo (Soxy Topacio), May 6; Litso-nero (Lore Reyes), May 20; Agaton and Mindy (Peque Gallaga), May 27; Bente (Mel Chionglo), June 3 and Kamoteng Ka-hoy (Maryo J. delos Re-yes) on June 10.

Iniwasan lang ng Sine Direk series ang pelikulang BFF (Best Friends Forever) nina Sharon Cu-neta at Ai Ai delas Alas which will be shown on May 13. Kasi, hindi raw maganda na magtapatan ang Pinoy movies. We agree 100 percent. Also it will be a total suicide kung tatapatan mo ang box-office queens na sina Sharon at Ai Ai sa isang mainstream movie, produced by a major film company.

Anyway, since Lama-ngan, Topacio, Reyes, Gallaga, Chionglo and De-los Reyes are mainstream directors, they were gi-ven P3M budget each for their movies. Not the usual P1M given to Cinema One Originals digital films megged by new aspiring directors. Pero sabi nga ng anim na directors, abu-nado pa sila. It's a good thing, discounted lahat ng talent fees ng mga ka-ibigan nilang mga artista na pumayag lumabas sa kanilang pelikula. At bakit hindi, maituturing na prestigious ngayon sa isang artista ang mapabilang sa isang 'indie film. ' Kasi ito na ang mga pinapansin at nananalo sa award giving bodies here and abroad.

Tuluyan na kayang mai-intimidate ang ating indie directors tulad nina Brillante at Alix sa ating mainstream directors who are also going digital now? Well, the competition is always welcome anytime, anywhere. So it will be the 'institutions' versus the 'new blood' ika nga. In the end, ang panalo dito ay ang ma-nonood ng mga pelikulang Pilipino.

AMONG the six films sa Sine Direk series, ang ina-abangan naming mapanood ay ang Ded Na Si Lolo ni Soxy.

Trailer pa lang ay hu-magalpak na ng tawa ang mga kasamahan naming entertainment press na mga dumalo sa launching ng Sine Derek sa Tea-trino, Greenhills. Ipinapakita sa pelikula ang lahat ng mga nakakalokang pa-niniwala ng mga Pinoy tuwing may namamata-yan at sa burol ng kani-lang patay. It's also nice to see Roderick Paulate back in his usual 'gay per-sona' in the big screen.

Sa totoo lang, na-miss namin nang husto ang kabadingan ni Roda sa mga ginawa niyang mga pelikula dati. Kuwelang-kuwela 'yong pagdalaw niya sa burol na kuntodo red gown at hihimatayin. Nang may namataan si-yang mga guwapong bagets sa lamay ay panay na ang 'beautiful eyes' niya sa mga ito.
