Maja’s savings almost gone

Maja’s savings almost gone

This one is for the books. A recording producer thought an aspiring singer he was considering to be a part of his roster of recording talents needed a noselift.

He told her to see a plastic surgeon and have the procedure done. "Have him bill me later," was his further instruction to her.

After a few days, when she came to see him again, he was satisfied to see a new and much improved look.

Here’s the rub. When he saw the bill, he was shocked.

He called up the surgeon and exclaimed: "Aba, parang dalawa naman ang inoperahan mo based on the billing statement."

"Pero, dalawa nga ho sila," the surgeon answered.

It turned out that the mother of the singer took advantage of the chance and had a nose lift, too.

Would you believe that Maja Salvador has been out of work for almost eight months?

No wonder that she has complained to a confidante that her savings is almost gone.

Maja is being co-managed by Chit Ramos and Star Magic.

Maja’s confidante said she was supposed to do the series "Annaliza." When this didn’t materialize, she was promised the title role in "Dulce Amor," which, unfortunately, didn’t push through either.

One of the prettiest and most talented in her batch, it’s surprising that she has been idle this long.

Idle, too, for almost a year was Long Mejia. Unlike Maja, however, Long got to guest in some shows of ABS-CBN, especially in "Wowowee."

"At kapag nag-ge-guest naman ako sa ‘Wowoweeinaabutan ako ni Willie (Revillame, ‘Wowowee’ host) ng kung magkano, na, kahit nahihiya ako, tintanggap ko na.

"Di pa kasama dito ang talent fee ko for my guesting," Long said.

Manny Pacquiao was also a great help to him and his family during what Long describes as the lean days in his career. "Natuklasan namin na magpinsan pala kami. His grandad, like mine, is a Mejia. And they were both from Leyte."

Ever since then, he related, the champion boxer would ask Long to come to Manny’s house. Long never left without a pabaon.

"One time when I was in his house, nandun din si Bayani (Agbayani). Napansin nila pareho na pawisang pawisan ako. So they asked me why," he relates.

"Sabi ko, kasi nag dyip lang ako.

Sa’n ang kotse motanong ni Bayani sa akin.

"Wala na akong kotse," sagot ko.

"Sumabad si Manny: Hintayin mo. Ibibigay ko sa’yo ang isang kotse ko dyan.

"I’m still using the car (a Toyota)," he added.

His career seems to be enjoying a second wind. Right now, he is doing a sitcom, "Everybody Hapi," on TV 5 and a fantasy series, "Dragona," on ABS CBN.

In "Everybody Hapi," he is with John Estrada, Eugene Domingo, Roxanne Barcelo and Matt Evans, among others.

In "Dragona," he appears with Bayani. Shaina Magdayao plays the title role.

His family is doing fine, he informs us. All his children are in school. His eldest, Pidol (named after Dolphy), 19, is taking up a course in Hotel and Business Management. Ping, 15, and Bibo, 14, are both in high school.
