| Makisig Morales and others now full-fledged KapamilyaAuthor: ISAH V. RED We always thought Makisig Morales, after bagging the first runner-up (Little Division) of Little Big Star Season 1, has become a Kapamilya. While he became a recording artist of Star Records and is known for the Christmas hit single, Tito Tita and recorded his latest album Oldies but Kiddies and was Little Big Superstar Season 2 co-host with Sarah Geronimo, he was never a Star Magic talent. Makisig, lead singer of Mak and The Dudes, has been in the business long enough to merit a place in Star Magic, proven by the fact that he steered some shows to national popularity, like Super Inggo. In Pedro Penduko in the City, he played the role of Moy, one of the engkantaos. He was in Cute ng Ina Mo, co-starred in Supalipapalicious with Vhong Navarro and Caregiver with Sharon Cuneta. He is also a very popular endorser of consumer products, like Lucky Me Pancit Canton, Ceelin, Bonakid Pre-School and Moose Gear. Now, a tween and soon a full-grown adult, can Makisig be like what his name really is? Apart from him, there are others that Star Magic has signed. Kitkat recently celebrated her 24th birthday on Sept. 23rd at Punchline Bar in Quezon City, where she regularly performs in. She had a memorable birthday bash with her closest friends in attendance which also included lisa Pa Lamang co-stars Susan Roces, Claudine Barretto and best friend Melissa Ricks. Pareng Jomar is the name that Jairus Aquino is really known for. This was his character in Super Inggo where he played the role of the best friend of Makisig Morales. Jairus has also appeared in shows such as Rounin and Lastikman where he was the young Rayver Cruz and Vhong Navarro, respectively. He was also in Thats My Doc as one of the neigHBOrs of Aga Muhlach. His biggest break was when he played the lead in Kung Fu Kids. A Grade 3 student of Angelicum College, Jairus considers Math his favorite subject. He played Toto, the friend of the lead character played by Ryan Agoncillo. Another singer, Kyle Balili was also one of the finalists of Little Big Star. He was later seen as Tam, the friend of Poknat in Sana Maulit Muli and as Bukol in Prinsesa ng Banyera. Kyle was also the young Vhong Navarro in the movie Supahpapalicious. Kyle is very excited to be part of Utoy as it stars the Comedy King, no less. He is a Grade 4 pupil of the University of the East. Andre Garcia is more known as Chubs. This is because of the character he played in Kung Fu Kids, the chubby kid who loves to eat. Now, he is seen in Dyosa as the brother of Josephine, played by Anne Curtis. Andre will be in Goin Bulilit, too. He is also a Grade 3 pupil at Angelicum Colleges home study program. If you remember Jim Salas of the Universal Motion Dancers, Paul Salas is his son. He is best remembered as Uragon, one the of leaders of the children in Kung Fu Kids. Paul played the young Ryan Agoncillo in Pieta. He was the chubby Kapampangan kid in the fantaserye Kokey. Rhap Salazar is now in Grade 6 at Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School. He will soon be seen in Batunting. Mica Roi Torre was one of the finalists of Little Big Star. He is in Grade 5 at Villa Cecilia Academy. These are the kids that Star Magic will guide through their formative years. Will anyone of them be like Claudine Barretto? Bea, 21 Bea Alonzo turned 21 on Oct. 17. Its a long way from those days when she played Katrina Argos in Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay. Now, she is now known as Betty in I Love Betty La Fea, reuniting her with John Lloyd Cruz, his leading man in Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay. From then, they have always been paired on TV, like It Might Be You, Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin and Maging Sino Ka Man. They have also stirred the box office with movies, like My First Romance, Now that I Have You, Close To You, All About Love and One More Chance. This year, she released her first solo album entitled The Real Me under Star Records. Kagandahan, a track from the album is one of the most requested songs. We will soon see her with Sam Milby in a movie under Star Cinema. Star-studded guest list Those who will troop to the Araneta Coliseum to watch Sarah Geronimo perform for the third time there, in the concert The Next One on Saturday, Nov. 8, 8 p.m., are in for a big treat, not only because they will see their idol mount the stage once more, but because they will also feast their eyes on other stars who will share the spotlight with her. Heading the guest list is Sarahs A Very Special Love leading man John Lloyd Cruz, who will render a number with her. Next is Billy Crawford, who will prove why he has become a source of Filipino pride all over the world, through a song and dance production number. World Championship of the Performing Arts champion Jed Madela will croon his way to audiences hearts with his stirring ballads. Maja Salvador, Shaina Magdayao and Rayver Cruz will light up the stage with a rousing production number. Backstreet Boys member and recent Manila visitor Howie Dorough, with whom Sarah recorded the duet Ill Be There for her new album, Just Me under Viva Records, will have a special video presentation. This early, tickets to the concert are selling like hotcakes. Producer Viva Concerts and Events is expecting another hit, what with Johnny Manahan calling the shots as stage director. Hitmaker Louie Ocampo is musical director. After her one-week vacation in the US, shes back to work. This includes recording the theme song for the Metro Filmfest entry Baler and shooting the much-anticipated sequel of A Very Special Love, again with John Lloyd. Passing On Some friends have gone before us. Tomorrow, All Saints Day, gives us a chance to offer prayers for the repose of their souls. TV and movie director Khryss Adalia succumbed to colon cancer on Oct. 13. He faced death bravely, didnt want to get any treatment. Khryss, a gentle soul, was too young to give up life. Another director, Gilbert Perez, or more popular to ABS-CBN employees as Manong, just didnt have enough strength to keep his feet on the ground after succumbing to a massive heart attack sometime in August while working on the series Kahit Isang Saglit. He gave up living a life under pressure two weeks later. As we used to pray when I was in the seminary for those who have gone before us, Requiescant in pace. Source: Manila Standard Today |
