Column: If I Know

MariMar' is really lording it over in the ratings, hitting a whopping 49. 5percent and it could get even higher with more interesting highlights in the story.

According to Dingdong Dantes, if you think MariMar and Sergio, together with their daughter Cruzita is now the picture of one happy family, then think again. More twists and turns are coming in the weeks to come. There will be a wedding, but he says it won't involve him and MariMar .

"Kung ano ang tini-taping namin, 'yun na ang pinalalabas the next day. Sobrang tight. Kaya bawal kaming magkasakit, bawal lahat. Kumbaga, kung puwede lang, 'yung characters namin, kami na talaga iyon," said Dingdong in a brief chat with the writers who attended the live telecast of SOP last Sunday held at the UP Theater.

The tandem of Dingdong and Marian (Rivera) was greeted with thunderous applause when they made a surprise appearance in Eat Bulaga last Saturday. "Maganda ang number nina Allan K and Anjo (Yllana) and they didn't expect that we'd be there. Kaya ganun katindi ang response nila," said Dingdong.

What can you say that Marian is set do a project with Richard Gutierrez? "It's an interesting combination because they have never teamed up before. I am also looking forward to the chance to do a movie with Marian," says Dingdong.

WINNER'S STORY

RICHARD Librada, a second year Broadcast Communications student at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) was the biggest winner at the 1st SOP Music Video Awards held Sunday at the UP Theater. Aside from winning the Best Director Award for his MTV with Dennis Trillo for the song "All Out of Love," he also won the awards for Best Story and Concept, Best Videography and Best Music Video, with Dennis also the award for Best Performance by An Artist in a Music Video.

His classmate, Abigail Quinto won for Yasmien Kurdi's Candlelight Romance the awards for Best Editing and Texter's Choice. Roman Perez of UP won the award for Best Production Design for the song Ikaw Pa Rin by Aicelle Santos.

The 18-year-old was very happy of his victory, most especially because he didn't expect to win. "Honestly, I felt that UP is our strongest competitor and I expected that they will win," says the PUP student. "I based my observation from the comments that I heard from the people. Wala naman pong kaso sa akin kahit sino ang manalo sa aming pito kasi magkakaibigan naman po kami. "

So thankful to Dennis (Trillo) who was very cooperative during their MTV shoot.

"Apat na oras lang kami nag-shoot kasi po busy din siya," he relates. ""We shot in an abandoned building in Ermita, Manila . Before the shot, I gave the storyboard to his handler that's why he already knew what to do. He's prepared kaya I need not direct him too much. Ang galing niya talaga," he said.

How does it feel having a bling-bling hanging on your neck? "Mabi-gat," says the young director with a smile. "I didn't expect this kasi po mahiyain talaga ako. Kasi po when I first presented a music video, parang palpak ang nagawa ko. Parang nabigyan ako ng second chance with this. Lagi nga akong naiiyak kasi palpak ang una kong ginawa. "

He has nothing but praises for Dennis whom he says contributed greatly to the victory of the music video. "Ayoko nga po mag-expect kaya nung first time na tinawag ang pangalan ko, parang ayo-kong maniwala. Saka noong si Mahal ang nag-announce, hindi ko nari-nig ang pangalan ko. Sabi ko kay Abigail, pumanhik siya kasi narinig ko na PUP ang nanalo. Iyon pala, ako pala iyon," says the proud student.

Given the chance, he dreams of doing MTV for Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid. With the prize money he won, Richard no longer has to look for money to pay for his tuition fee for next semester.

TALENT MANAGER WANTS 'TO TRY THE MERCHANDISE FIRST'

A CHARACTER actor, who had been in the business for quite sometime now, is aching to make his presence felt anew. He wants to stage a comeback. But since action movies are no longer in vogue, the only way he could rekindle his career is if he could repackage himself. He approached a popular talent manager to seek his help on this. The manager, although gay, is not known for his exploits with men although he was rumored to be playing sweet music with one of his wards.

The character actor told the manager that he wants to seek his help with regards to "reinventing" himself and inquired if it's possible. After hearing him speak, the manager allegedly told him, well, he could help him but he has to try the merchandise first. The character actor, who is certainly not a newbie, is aware of what the manager was leading to - he wants to have sex with him before he could even start scouting a possible project for him. And it was only their first conversation.

The character actor, sensing what the manager wanted, told him, he could probably do something about the "sex" thing but could he, at least, present him a plan on what the manager intend to do with his career to give it the much needed shot in the arm. Besides, he's not into "selling" his merchandise and just wants to have a manager to chart his career on a better course. But he's very much aware of what the manager wanted. The manager is insistent. "I'll help you but you have to give in to what I want," was the message that he sent to the character actor.

Nothing happened on the initial talk between the character actor and the manager. Every now and then, the character actor would give the manager a call to inquire as to the status of their initial talk. And each time he calls him, the gay manager would always insist on having a date with him first. Could they meet somewhere? The manager seems to really have the hots for him. The character actor refuses to give in.
