THE recently-concluded 38th Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Inc. awards night seems to belie reports that as far as the local showbiz industry is concerned, hindi na sila naniniwala sa mga ganitong okasyon.

Kaya naman sa ilang nakalipas na awards night, mabibilang sa daliri ang celebrities na dumalo.

At the GMMSF, most of the major awardees came. Ditto with the presenters, who included the King of Comedy, Dolphy.

The latter presented the All-Time Box-Office King award to Vic Sotto, who came with GF Pia Guanio.

Yup, sila na ngang talaga, Ian F.

Most of the awardees came in their best togs. Aga Muhlach, Film Actor of the Year for A Love Story, was in a barong Tagalog by Ben Ferrales. But Maricel Soriano, adjudged Best Film Actress for A Love Story, was a no-show.

"May taping daw ho ng Florinda," explained Mae Esguerra, who is in-charge of inviting the artists.

John Lloyd Cruz was in a tuxedo. Si Bea Alonzo naman, naka-pink long gown.

John Lloyd and Bea are this year's Box-Office King and Queen for One More Chance.

Cathy Molina, One More Chance director, was named Most Popular Film Director.

Other awardees included Richard Gutierrez and Angel Locsin (Prince and Princess of Philippine Movies and TV); Martin Nievera and Sarah Geronimo (Male/Female Concert Performer of the Year); Piolo Pascual and Sitti (Male/Female Recording Artist of the Year); Bamboo (Most Popular Recording Group); Callalily (Most Promising Recording Group); Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu (Most Popular Loveteam of RP Movies and TV); Mart Escudero and Marian Rivera (Most Promising Male/Female Star); Gian Magdangal and Aicelle Santos (Most Promising Male and Female Singer); EB Babes (Most Promising Dance Group of the Year); Joey de Leon (Most Popular Novelty Singer); Makisig Morales (Most Popular Male Child Performer); Kiray Celis (Most Popular Female Child Performer); Star Cinema (Most Popular Film Producer); Carmi Raymundo and Vanessa Valdez (Most Popular Screenwriters, A Love Story); MariMar (Most Popular TV Program); Bb. Joyce Bernal and Mac Alejandre (Most Popular TV Directors).

A special award went to Jose Manalo (Bert Marcelo Lifetime Achievement Award); Marian (Phenomenal TV Star); Richard Gutierrez (King of Valentine Movies) and Sharon Cuneta (Outstanding Achievement by a Female Recording Artist).
