Miranda plays key role in NBC’s global expansion

Raymund Miranda has been appointed to the role of managing director, Asia, Global Networks. The new appointment is effective November 1 based in Singapore.

In his new role, Raymund Miranda will be responsible for launchinpg the commercial operations for Global Networks in Asia and for building NBC Universal’s channels relationships in that region. His remit is part of NBC Universal’s previously announced international channel expansion strategy.

NBC Universal Global Networks operates 12 entertainment television channels throughout Europe and Latin America under four distinctive channel brands: SCI FI (science fiction), 13th Street (actioppn and suspense), Studio Universal (24-hour movies), and Universal Channel (crime and investigation). In addition to these channels, which have become leading pay services in their individual markets, NBC Universal Global Networks launched the company’s first free TV channel outside the United States, Das Vierte, in Germany in September 2005. Collectively, these networks reach over 70 million households across 40 countries.

In addition, NBC Universal has interests in several global joint ventures, including HBO (Asia), Star Channel (Japan), TV1 (Australia), LAPTV (Latin America), The History Channel (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland), and Telecine (Brazil).

NBC Universal’s recent announcement of the proposed acquisition of Sparrowhawk Media (Hallmark Channel, Kidsco, Movies 24 and Diva TV) provides NBC Universal with an established channel oppperation in Asia and a highly-experienced team of local executives. After closure of the acquisition, the organizational structure for the combined group will be carefully assessed over the next few months in full collaboration with leadership, management and employees from both Sparrowhawk and NBC Universal in order to shape a dynamic growth operation in Asia.

Raymund Miranda most recently served as President and CEO of the Nation Broadcasting Corporation (92.3 xFM) and as managing pdirector, Mobile TV for 360media Corp based in Manila, Philippines, managing the execution and deployment of myTV – the first deployment of DVBH in the Philippines and only the second commercial launch in Southeast Asia. He also served in the role of Head of Content & Strategy with MediaQuest Holdings Inc. working with various units of the PLDT/SMART group on content requirements and strategies.
