Mo Twister on Abunda-Belo issue: Let's not be hypocrites

After an apology has been made and accepted, you'd think that that's the end of the fight between television host Boy Abunda and popular cosmetic surgeon Dra. Vicki Belo.

But controversial host Mo Twister would not let the issue die down without his say on the matter. It was Mo who interviewed Belo when the cosmetic surgeon hurled what was perceived by many, including Abunda, as insult against the television host.

This was Belo's controversial remark: "All I'd like to say is, if you want to look like Boy Abunda , go to Calayan, But if you want to look like Dingdong Dantes and Piolo Pascual, come to Belo."

Mo, who is known for his candor and no-holds-barred opinions, believed though that Abunda and everyone else had overreacted.

"I think that what Dra. Belo said naman on our show was not really a direct insult, but you know siyempre it's gonna be interpreted as such. It's a joke," he told ABS-CBN News.

Mo also pointed out that Abunda himself indirectly insulted Belo when he came out with "I Deserve Better" billboard for Calayan Surgicenter, a competitor of Belo Medical Group.

"...and he used to be a Belo endorser. So, when Boy Abunda is coming out with a billboard that says 'I Deserve Better' as endorser, [isn't that] the same thing? Aren't you underlying insulting someone? I mean, if you feel that way, then let's not be hypocrites here, you know. I mean if you do it (insult), you should take it, too," he said.

"Well, you know, I like Tito Boy. He's always been quite friendly to me. But if you are asking me honestly about this issue lang, not about him as a person or his history, just about this issue, I really think that Boy overreacted with what Vicki said," he added.

Mo admitted that he gets hurt every time Belo's rivals would attack her, saying his friend doesn't deserve it.

"There's a lot of time when she's been in that situation and she shown to be generous and friendly person, very forgiving to everyone, to a lot of people. If she's not going to be aggressive about it and if she's not going to fight about it, then maybe I can help her because you know I don't really mind so much about these people trying to insult me," he said.

Mo maintained that the issue has been "blown out of proportion" and "was grossly misinterpreted."
