| Nancy pregnant![]() Author: Mario E. Bautista ANCY Castiglione, who changed her face and, later, her name and is now known as Nancy Jane, is preggy. Nancy, a balikbayan from Canada, is three months pregnant. She started on TV appearing on GMA-7 shows. She was linked to actors like Luis Manzano and Paolo Contis. The father of her baby is a non-showbiz guy named Ignacio, nicknames Nacho. He comes from a rich family in Davao where they own a hotel. They met during a drifting event as Nancy is very fond of drifting cars. No, they wonât walk down the aisle just because theyâre going to have a child soon. Nancy wants to go back to Canada for a while to deliver her child there with her parents. Nancy now follows the footsteps of Jennylyn Mercado and Vina Morales who are also unwed moms. RHIAN ON JC: WEâRE CLOSE BUT NOT YET ON Rhian Ramos can now gloat and tell her detractors to eat their heart out since her new show, âLa Lolaâ, that they expect to flop is rating very high, getting 35 to 36 percent plus ratings and even topping the ratings of other GMA primetime shows at times. âHonestly, hindi ko po ine-expect na tataas agad ang rating namin,â she says. âUnang-una, wala pang pruweba ang tandem namin ni JC de Vera and some people were saying itâs a big risk for GMA-7 kasi mas established na ang love team niya with Yasmien Kurdi. Tapos, experimental din ito kasi the original version of the show, hindi pa napapalabas dito. First time ginawa ng GMA na isang Spanish telenovela, ginawan agad ng local version kahit hindi pa aired dito ang original source nito. The pressure on us was really grabe kasi hit na hit siya nang gawin sa ibang bansa, so mapa-pahiya kami if it didnât click here. But we can say the gamble paid off kasi nga tinangkilik din ng Pinoy viewers kaya happy naman kaming lahat at thankful sa naging outcome nito na consistent na 30 plus ang rating. â So what can she say to her detractors? Will she gloat and laugh at their faces? âNo, ever since, hindi ko lang naman sila pinapansin. Basta Iâm thankful to the Lord na nagre-rate ang âLa Lolaâ. Thatâs all. Those who are not happy with me or with the show, di huwag na lang panoorin. But as it happens, ang dami pala talaga gustong manood ng show. â What can she say to comments that part of the showâs success can be attributed to her nice chemistry with leading man JC de Vera? âSiguro naman, itâs true. Thereâs a good connection kasi between our characters as Lola and Facundo. But at first, nervous talaga ako kasi mas accepted na ang love team niya with Yasmien, di ba? Buti na lang, nagustuhan din ng viewers ang tambalan namin. â Some folks say that theyâre now really on even off cam? âNo, thatâs not true. I admit weâre much closer now kaysa noong kai-start pa lang ng show. After several weeks of taping together, nakapag-bond na kami at mas comfortable na rin kami sa isaât isa. Pero wag naman i-expect na dahil lang nag-click ang tandem namin in âLa Lolaâ, magiging kami na. Walang ganun. â POLO MISSES JEAN Polo Ravales was congratulated by the press people who attended the press preview of âWalang Kawalaâ at My Cinema in Greenbelt 3. They say he gave a very good performance as a young man whoâs a closet gay, marries newcomer Althea Vega, but later leaves her since his true love is childhood friend Joseph Bitangcol. âThankful naman akong nagustuhan ng mga nanood ang movie,â says Polo. âMagaling naman kasi talaga ang pagkakadirek dito ni Direk Joel Lamangan at mahusay rin ang buong cast. â About his lovelife, Polo no longer wants to talk about his breakup with Jean Garcia. He says he really pities newcomer Krissa Mae Arrieta, the former Go Bingo girl whoâs their co-star in âGagambinoâ, as sheâs the one being blamed for his split up with Jean. âI swear nothing is going between Krissa Mae and me. Kung ako lang, tanggap ko na âyang ganyang mga intriga dahil Iâve been in showbiz for a long time. Itâs Krissa Mae whoâs a newcomer kaya hindi pa siya sanay na naiintriga ng ganyan. â So what does he feel about Jean now? âSiyempre, nanghihinayang ako that we lost âyung dating closeness for each. And I really feel sad na pangit na issues ang lumalabas na parang kinaliwa ko siya, which is not true. Pero hindi totoong sheâs giving me the cold shoulder at hindi na kami nagpapansinan. Nagbabatian naman kami, pero wala na nga lang âyung closeness that we had before. â Miriam Quiambao is deadset on not just being a TV host but also an actress. Sheâs now officially managed by Annabelle Rama and her first acting stint under Annabelle is her episode with Iza Calzadoâs âObraâ about beauty queens. She and Carlene Aguilar, another beauty queen whoâs also gone into acting and now managed by Lolit Solis, play the sisters of Iza, with former Miss International Melanie Marquez as their mom. âThe story is nice at comedy ang dating,â says Miriam. âThe episode is about beauty queens and beauty pageants kaya bagay na bagay sa amin nina Carlene and Ms. Melanie. â Miriam took some acting workshops before going seriously into acting. âI donât want naman to come unprepared. This is something new for me, even if Iâve done na a movie before with Sharon Cuneta. â RICHARD PREPARES FOR âZORROâ Richard Gutierrezâs âCodename: Aseroâ is ending on November 14 and they had their last taping day last Saturday. His next project will be a local version of âZorroâ and he will take up fencing lessons for the role of the swashbuckling hero who figures in a lot of swordfights. But first heâll concentrate on the Valentine movie he will do with KC Concepcion for GMA Films before starting this new action series. GMA-7 is also giving him another show with a different kind of format before he starts taping âZorroâ. Replacing âAseroâ is the telefantasya âLuna Mysticaâ with Heart Evangelista in the title role where sheâll play two different characters. It started taping last week with Mark Anthony Fernandez as Heartâs leading man. NEW ACTOR IN JAIL J. E. SISON is a goodlooking guy from Olongapo who was discovered when he joined the âYouâre the Manâ contest on ABS-CBN a couple of years ago. He only ended as runnerup and the winner was Ahron Villena. Another runnerup was Marc Cortez, who has since come out of the closet and admitted that heâs gay. J. E. was really the best looking guy in that bunch, but he lacks height. He was cast in some TV shows and even did a couple of movies, then he went back to oblivion. Now, heâs reported to be languishing in jail in Cebu due to drug charges. Itâs said that J. E. became the good friend of someone from a rich political clan in Cebu and they were together when they got arrested due to drugs. But his friend was able to regain his freedom quickly and itâs J. E. whoâs left behind bars for two months now. His mom said their family does not have the needed P150,000 to pay for his bail. Obviously, J. E. âs foray into showbiz didnât do him any good, just like what happened to other wannabes who never made it big but only ended up as losers in the risky game of showbusiness. SEN. LORENâS WEBSITE SEN. Loren Legarda now has an official website: www. lorenlegarda. com. ph. Its launching was held with the 10th anniversary of her Luntiang Pilipinas project that aims to plant no less than 10 million trees. It will provide information about her and her achievements, the bills she has authored and co-authored, including those which have been enacted into laws, her advocacies and her viewpoints on critical national issues. A capsulated three-minute preview of her 30 years in public service through media provides an interesting introduction to the website. She also has produced a docu-drama on climate change starring Chin Chin Gutierrez. This timely docu will have its formal premiere launch soon. Loren brought forth the passage of many laws of national significance, among them the Magna Carta for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (RA 9501), the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (RA 9262), the Anti-Child Labor Law (RA 9231), the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act (RA 9208), the Eidâl Holiday Law (RA 9177), and the Solid Waste Management Act (RA 9003) among many others. She has also provided medical assistance to victims of toxic waste contamination. The www. lorenlegarda. com. ph websitealso features, under the âAdvocaciesâ section, the Luntiang Pilipinas, Libro ni Loren Foundation and the Bessie B. Legarda Memorial Foundation, institutions she established to help attend the countryâs environmental, educational and health problems. THE âHigh School Musicalâ phenomenon started in January, 2006 with the first TV movie that introduced the interracial teen romance between Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), captain of the Wildcats basketball team, and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens), a brainy transfer student whoâs a math whiz. Their love story is spiced up with catchy songs like the opening song âStart of Something New,â âGetcha Head in the Game,â âWhat Iâm Looking For,â âBreaking Free,â and the rousing finale number, âWeâre All in This Together. â It became the most successful movie that Disney Channel produced so they quickly made a sequel in 2007 and even had a goldmine of a concert tour, plus a best-selling soundtrack album, novelized book series and video game shows. Now, Disney gives director-choreographer Kenny Ortega more budget in âHigh School Musical 3: Senior Yearâ, which is a big hit in its theatrical release worldwide, so weâre not surprised that another sequel is now being prepared. (Will it be called âCollege Musicalâ since theyâd be in college by then?) In HSM 3, the students of East High in Albuquerque, New Mexico (but the school is actually located at Salt Lake City, Utah) are about the graduate and theyâre all preparing to go to college. But before graduation, they first have to prepare for their prom and a new musical that they will stage. The rest of the cast is back, including Danforth (Corbin Bleu), Troyâs best friend; Taylor (Monique Coleman), head of the science club and love interest of Danforth; and the brother-sister team of Sharpay and Ryan Evans (Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel), the twin presidents of the drama club; Kelsi (Olesya Rulin), the classâ musical genius and composer; Troyâs dad and coach (Bart Johnson); and Mrs. Darbus (Alysson Reed), the supportive drama teacher. The conflict now concerns Gabriella getting accepted at Stanford in California. As a result, she wonât be able to do their school play for spring. Troy, in turn, is torn between going to college on a basketball scholarship or pursuing a musical career since he might also get this scholarship from Juilliard. The road to adulthood is really more complicated with the choices one has to make. But of course, not to worry, folks. Just like in the first films, problems are magically resolved for the obligatory happy ending. The question now is: Is the theatrical version better than the TV flicks? The answer is yes and loyal fans will adore it, especially the 12 and below group whoâll find it bright and zany. But older ones (especially the cynical ones) will compare it with other high school musicals and say that âGreaseâ is definitely better. We watched this movie with a group of kids and they were all screaming with delight. They even brought their own pompoms to dance with the cast in the peppy cheerleadersâ number. The choreography is great, involving nimble energetic dance moves like in the dynamic âThe Boys are Backâ junkyard number. The songs maybe generic but still lovely, giving the fans exactly what they expect. This is not the kind of film critics will seriously accept, but Director Ortega, the guy who re-introduced the musical genre to a new generation of viewers, succeeds in coming up with more sophisticated, glossy and glittery musical numbers (especially Sharpayâs Babes on Broadway âI Want It Allâ dream sequence) to please the franchiseâs original fans. Itâs wise of him not stray from the familiar formula with all the essentials elements that the faithful âHSMâ fanatics are used to. The movie pays bouncy tribute to musical geniuses like Busby Berkeley, Bob Fosse, and thereâs even a homage to Fred Astaireâs classic dance sequence in âRoyal Weddingâ where Zac Efron also gets to dance on the ceiling. But to give HSM 3 something fresh, three new cast members are added: the scheming British student Tiara Gold (Jemma Brown), the bufoonish Jimmie Zara (Matt Prokop) and his diminutive sidekick Donny Dion (Justin Martin). Troy and Gabriellaâs relationship are as sweet and syrupy as ever, as seen in their musical number where they get to do some joyful âSinging in the Rainâ on the schoolâs rooftop which has been turned into a beautiful garden. But thereâs no mistaking that the filmâs main focus is really on Troy. It opens with a close-up of him in the middle of a crucial basketball game. He looks anxious and this anxiety factor resonates in the film as he has to make a choice between basketball or singing. Zac as this heartthrob is so hot he is now in not just one but three new films: â17 Againâ, âMe and Orson Wellesâ, and the remake of âFootloose. â Ashley Tisdale is once again effective as the bitch Sharpay, providing comic relief and some good singing. If youâre looking for clean wholesome entertainment, this is the movie which you can watch with your whole family. If you want a more seriously dark and realistic film about adolescent angst, go watch â13â starring Evan Rachel Wood instead. Source: People's Journal |
