New Kapuso Sine Novela is ’80s blockbuster movie

Sine Novela, GMA-7’s phenomenal afternoon blockbuster series, will continue conquering the hearts of the Filipinos with the premiere of the heartbreaking film-turned-TV-series—Laurice Guillen’s Una Kang Naging Akin.

The new feature in Sine Novela Presents premiered yesterday and it brings to life the story of two women who fall in love with the same man on two different occasions. The 10th romantic and heartbreaking tale of Sine Novela is expected to top the ratings in the daytime programming block.

The latest afternoon blockbuster film-turned-TV-series features a star-studded cast including Angelika de la Cruz, Wendell Ramos, Alfred Vargas, LJ Reyes, and today’s youngest dramatic actress, Maxene Magalona.

Directed by Joel Lamangan, Sine Novela Presents Una Kang Naging Akin is about a love triangle, featuring three distinct characters—Vanessa (Angelika de la Cruz), Nick/Darwin (Wendell Ramos), and Jessa (Maxene Magalona).

Engaged couple Nick Soriano III and Vanessa Yumul is considered one of the country’s famous pairs. The two have a beautiful relationship that is envied by many people since Nick comes from a prominent and wealthy family, while Vanessa is a socialite young woman who loves the arts.

But tragedy strikes when Nick meets a terrible helicopter crash. The authorities declared him dead after they found a lifeless body on the crash site. The passing on of Nick leaves Vanessa in pain.

Unknown to her, Nick is still alive. Luckily he was able to jump out of the chopper before it exploded. The dead body found on the site was that of Nick’s officemate.

Meanwhile, Nick ended up on an island where Dr. Modesto Mallari (Ricardo Cepeda), a marine biologist, took care of him. Nick doesn’t remember anything, including his own identity.

Dr. Mallari takes Nick, who is now called Darwin, to his home where he meets the doctor’s young and beautiful daughter, Jessa, an artist who is into paintings.

Jessa initially dislikes Darwin because she believes that the information given by the handsome guy is just a pigment of his imagination. Darwin then unveiled the truth about his condition to the family who is keeping him.

Soon the power of love conquered the hearts of Darwin and Jessa as they find themselves in a romantic relationship. Darwin, who is enjoying his new life, asks Jessa to marry him. The couple then gets married..

But destiny seems to be playing games with the hapless lives of Vanessa, Jessa and Darwin when the latter meets another accident. Darwin’s memory returns, and again he remembers he is Nick, the wealthy businessman who is set to marry his beloved girlfriend Vanessa. With the return of his memory, Darwin’s identity as well as Jessa and their child no longer exist in Nick’s recollection.

Will Jessa just allow her husband to forget her and their son? Or will she have the courage to fight for what she thinks is rightfully hers? What will Vanessa do to keep Nick on her side for good? How will she deal with Jessa and her son? Will Jessa’s love for Darwin finds its way to make Nick remember her? And who really has the right to have Nick/Darwin? Is it Vanessa, the woman he first loved or Jessa, the woman he first tied the knot with?

Making the story more colorful and complicated are Alfred Vargas as Ronnie, a young man who is love-struck with Jessa; and LJ Reyes as Liway, Jessa’s half-sister who is head-over-heels in love with Ronnie.

The movie Una Kang Naging Akin was a big hit in 1991. It was Laurice Guillen who directed the stirring domestic drama starring Sharon Cuneta, Gabby Concepcion and Dawn Zulueta.

Sine Novela Presents Una Kang Naging Akin is on Dramarama sa Hapon five days a week on GMA-7.
