No dull moment with Alex

WORKING on a number of projects at the same time appears to have done Alessandra de Rossi a lot of good. Formerly as thin as a pole, she now sports curves and looks sexy.

"Iba nga siguro when you feel needed and appreciated," she said with a smile. "And I do have to thank ABS-CBN for the attention and for keeping me busy, since I became a part of them only a few months ago."

She has been working non-stop. Consider: she did a cameo role in "I Luv Betty La Fea." She has appeared in two episodes of "Maalaala Mo Kaya." Soon, she will do a new teleserye, where her role will not only be challenging but as lengthy as the bida.

She has, likewise, been appearing in one show after another of ABS-CBN.

She has also just wrapped up work for OctoArts Films’ Metro Manila Film Festival entry for this year, "One Night Only."

Directed by Joey Javier Reyes, "One Night Only" also stars Ricky Davao, Katrina Halili, Paolo Contis, Joross Gamboa, Valerie Concepcion, Diana Zubiri and Jennylyn Mercado.

The most kikay among the female stars of "One Night Only," Alex (Alessandra’s pet name), without meaning to, hogged the limelight at the recent presscon of the movie. Her spontaneity and outspokenness endeared her not only to her fellow actresses but also to the three leading men.

No wonder that when asked who among the four, if they were made to chose just one from among Katrina, Jennylyn, Diana and Valerie to have a one night stand with, not really sexually, they unanimously chose Alex.

"Why?" Ricky said. "Kasi madaldal siya. Ang girls who are talkative are exciting and fun to be with."

"Why I’d go for a girl like Alex na akala mo ‘di mauubusan ng sasabihin is because walang dull moment with them. Besides, ang mga sinasabi naman ni Alex are not offensive kaya you’d enjoy listening to her," said Paolo.

"Ako naman, I like Alex for what she is. Ang kadaldalan niya and all," said Joross.

And what has Alex got to say about her male co-stars’ impression of her?

"Pakiwari ko, maganda ako. At napakahaba ng buhok ko," she replied.

In "One Night Only," Alex plays Angela, a movie extra whom Paolo, a hunk actor, is eyeing.

Katrina is Jasmine, who is set to leave for Hong Kong with her congressman lover cum benefactor, portrayed by Ricky.

Valerie is Vicky whom Pons (Jon Avila) is out to have his jollies. Jon feels short-changed when he fails to get first base with her.

Diana is Vivian, a friend of Jasmine who is, on the other hand, determined to win Pons by any means.

Jennylyn is Elvie, Vicky’s cousin who is a professional make-up artist.

In supporting roles are Manilyn Reynes and Chocoleit.

Ogie Diaz is featured as himself in the movie.

Asked what the biggest challenge is in playing the role of Celso Resurrecion, the Spanish-Filipino who chose to serve Spain rather than the Filipino insurgents, Jericho Rosales said: "Everything.

"For one, bago sa akin ang character that I’m portraying. This is also my first period movie.

"At saka first time ko to work with most of my co-stars in the movie, including Anne (Curtis, his leading lady). And also, with my director (Mark Meiley).

"But I love working with them. And I’ve never felt so involved in a role I’ve portrayed. I had to be Celso Resurrecion from head to foot. Foot to head. A man who is torn between love of country and love for a woman, whose opinion totally differs from him, as far as love of country is concerned."

Is there a possibility of him winning an award for "Baler"?

Jericho answered with a smile: "Having been entrusted with this role by Viva Films is victory enough for me. At ang pinaka-bonus, having Anne for my leading lady.

"I just adore her. She gave her all in the movie. Yes, including in our love scenes. I would love to work with her again.

"Anytime soon, if possible," he enthused.
