Out of gratitude

Judy Ann Santos has completed a horror movie opposite Den- nis Trillo entitled "Mag-ingat Ka sa... Kulam. " Her last horror film was "Ouija" which was a box-office hit. Is she comfortable doing a horror film considering that she is more recognized as a dramatic actress?

She answered our questions by telling us that horror films is something that she would rather avoid doing especially if prosthetics would be applied on her. She is afraid she might be allergic to it and damage her skin. Nevertheless, she agreed to do "Kulam" because she was assured that her skin would not be affected. Another reason is she finds it quite difficult to turn down producer Mother Lily Monteverde who chose her for the project. Another reason is because "Mag-ingat sa Kulam" is Regal Entertainment's 48th anniversary offering.

"What makes it harder for me in doing this project is the fact na hindi ako matatakutin na tao. Baka kung ipis pa ang aking mga kalaban eh manginig ako sa takot. Mahirap din sa akin na magkunwari na mayroon akong kinatatakutan since wala akong idea ang kalalabasan ng special effects. At least sa drama, nasa harapan ko ang aking kaaway. . At napag-uusapan na rin lang ang takot, mas takot ako sa rapist kaysa multo," she shared .

Mother Lily was asked why she chose an October playdate for "Kulam" instead of making it an official entry to the Manila Film Festival?

"It is a solo project for Juday kaya I chose a special playdate for her. In fact, I moved our anniversary from August to October. "

Aside from "Mag-Ingat Ka sa... Kulam," what other Regal movies does Juday consider her top favorites?

"Of course, there is 'Sana Naman' because it was my first starring role. I have always wanted to play the role of a mermaid kaya 'Dyesebel' should be counted as among my favorites. I played a young 'Dyesebel' then. The other two films I liked most are 'Sabel' and 'Mano Po 2' where I got an award for best supporting actress. "

How is it working with Dennis Trillo?

"Napaka-consistent pa rin niyang tao. He is such a quiet type at nag-i-interact lang kami kapag kukunan na ang aming eksena. Although hindi siya palakibo ay madali siyang pakisamahan. "

Talent fee is something that actors never discussed among the press people. But Alfie Lorenzo, her manager and considered one of the important and influential pillars in the movie industry revealed that Juday started out with a P4,000 salary which has escalated into P4 million. He sounded joking, but for "Kulam," and out of gratitude, Mother Lily got a good discount.

Expect Judy Ann to be very busy in the months to come as four projects from Regal have already been lined up. These include a movie opposite Ryan Agoncillo, a project with Marian Rivera as well as a possible team-up with Richard Gutierrez.

SARAH THE NEXT Nora Aunor?

Sarah Geronimo should be in cloud 9 these days with the tremendous success of her movie with John Lloyd Cruz, "A Very Special Love" which reportedly grossed P14 million on the opening day and still showing. It has reportedly reached the P200 million mark, according to Atty. Ric Camaligan of SM cinemas.

Was she expecting the movie to be that phenomenal?

"Ang tanging dasal ko po ay tangkilikin sana kahit hindi maging super-super hit ang pelikula namin ni John Lloyd. We wanted people to appreciate ang aming pinaghirapan. Nangyari po naman ito at sobra-sobrang pasasalamat ko sa Itaas. Unexpected po ito at tinuturing naming malaking bonus. "

It goes without saying that Star Cinema is already cooking a new project for Sarah and John Llyod and aimed for a November release.

Sarah has proven her detractors wrong in saying that there is no chemistry between them and the movie would spell poison at the box office. With regards her acting, critics praised Sarah by saying that the pop princess acted intelligently and we quote,"Bubbly without overacting. "

Meanwhile, Sarah has a new gift to all her supporters with the release of her brand new album Just Me under Viva label.

There are 16 cuts in the album and these include the following romantic songs: You're the Love of My Life, Where Only Angels Fly, One Little Kiss, I Belong To You, Kahit Mahal Mo ay Iba and Remind Me to Forget You.

The big-come on in the album is her duet with the Backstreet Boys' Howie Dorough in the romantic song I'll Be There. On September 23, Howie will fly all the way to Manila to promote their carrier single.

You can catch Sarah perform on Sept. 13 , SM Dasmarinas and Sept. 28 at the Mall of Asia.

The 16-track album is produced by Christian de Walden.

On the concert scene, Mr. M or Johnny Manahan will direct Sarah's next big concert on November 8 at the Araneta Coliseum dubbed The Next One. As in the next superstar?

NEWS NOT TALK SHOW

IF you are not as sharp and lovable as Robin or Dianne of Good Morning America, then refrain from making opinions and just go on and broadcast the news. What the viewers really care about are the happenings in our country and not what these two newscasters of TV 5 think about.

In the first place, it is not a talk show host but news at 10.
