WHAT do Marian Rivera and newcomer Carla Abellana have in common? Well, they were both launched to stardom in a remake of a Thalia telenovela. It worked for Marian in "Marimar," making her the top female star in GMA-7. Let’s see if the same formula will also work for Carla in "Rosalinda." Their difference is that Marian played supporting roles in other shows, like "Muli" and "Super Twins," whereas Carla is a total neophyte. But Carla has showbiz pedigree since both her parents (Rey Abellana and Rhea Reyes) used to be actors who met each other in the GMA-7 soap, "Anna Liza," more than 20 years ago.

Marian and Carla got to work together last Friday night when they both participated in the GMA-7 59th anniversary show at Araneta Coliseum, "One Glamorous Night," which will be shown this coming Sunday after "Ful haus" at SNBO.

"We already met each other in a previous GMA event," says Marian. "I welcome Carla as a Kapuso and I’m happy kasi nadagdagan na naman ang leading ladies ng GMA. I wish her good luck sa projectniyang ‘Rosalinda’ and I’m sure na dahil magandang mag-alaga ang GMA, maganda rin ang magiging result noon just like ‘Marimar’."

Doesn’t she feel insecure that Carla might eventually surpass her popularity?

"Kailangan ba may ganun? I believe hindi kailangang magkaroon ng feelings of insecurity ang sinuman as there’s room for everyone. Ipakita mo lang na you have talent para mahalin ka ng publiko. I wish Carla and Geoff Eigenmann all the best."

And how does Carla feel about being with Marian?

"Sa totoo lang, na-star struck ako the first time we met kasi nanonood ako ng shows niya. And now, we got the chance to work together dito sa GMA anniversary special and I saw for myself kung gaano kainit ang tilian ng audience sa kanya. They really love her and Dingdong and it’s an honor to meet her and work with her here. Mabait siya, napakaganda, and I’m just happy to be given the chance to follow in her footsteps."

What can they say about the observation of some folks that they look alike?

"Oo nga," says Marian. "Pag magkaharap kami, para kaming nananalamin sa isa’t isa. It means pareho kaming beauty, ‘di ba?"

"Wala pa ako sa showbiz, noon pa maraming nagsasabi sa’kin niyan and I’m really flattered kasi, let’s face it, she’s THE Marian Rivera, ‘di ba?" says Carla. "I think it’s a big plus factor for me kapag sinasabing magkahawig kami. It’s an honor."

Heart Evangelista is back from her US trip for GMA Pinoy TV and instead of quarantining herself for five days, she had to report right away to the taping of "Ngayon at Kailanman" at a farm in Batangas as she has to do additional scenes for the episodes that will be aired this week. "I just had a check up with our doctor who said I’m perfectly healthy at mukhang wala naman akong nakuhang H1N1 virus while abroad kaya pinayagan na ko to go back to work right away," she says. "My trip to the US was quite tiringkasi two days lang kami sa L.A. then two days sa San Francisco, but it’s worth it kasi nakasama ko ang mga kapatid ko roon at nakapag-bonding kami. Also, very warm ang reception sa’kin ng Pinoy viewers doon ngayong isa na akong Kapuso. Some of them even told me that they subscribed to GMA now dahil gusto nilang mapanood ang shows ko rito."

She’s also happy that feedback on "Ngayon at Kailanman" is very favorable and the ratings go up steadily. What can she say about the remarks of some viewers that she should be the one to play Dingdong Dantes’ leading lady in the remake of "Stairway to Heaven"?

"Siempre, natutuwa ako and I’ve never worked with Dingdong so I welcome that. Pero wala naman sa’kin ang choice kundi nasa management. As of now, focused muna ako sa ‘Ngayon at Kailanman’ and I’m glad that tanggap naman ng viewers ang pagpapareha sa amin dito ni JC de Vera."

A fans’ day was held at "Showbiz Central" for the supporters of the Aljur Abrenica-Kris Bernal love team that’s now known simply as Al-Kris. The fans themselves were allowed to interview the two young stars. The first question was for Kris: You said you’re scared na sagutin si Aljur kasi baka masaktan ka.

Aljur speaks at this point: "Nangangako ako, ngayon, bukas, all my life."

His answer sounds so much like it’s a plug of their new show on primetime, "All My Life," but it still sent the fans swooning.

What is your term of endearment for each other? Kris: "Bebs, he started it. But now, ‘Good Evening Boy’ ang tawag ko sa kanya."

Aljur: "’Birthday Girl’ naman ang tawag ko sa kanya."

Why do they call each other that?

"Abangan nyo sa ‘All My Life,’ nandun ang sagot," says Aljur.

What’s the difference of "All My Life" from "Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin?"?

Kris:"Mas mabigat ang ‘Dapat’ kasi nabuntis ako, ikinasal kami. ‘All My Life’ is more about family friends na nasira ang samahan dahil sa isang trahedya. He plays Jules at ako naman si Romina."

Aljur: "More mature ang ‘Dapat’ kasi naging mag-asawa kami. In ‘All My Life,’ mas puedeng mangyari sa age namin ngayon."

"All My Life" had its big presscon Tuesday and starts airing this June 29, Monday, on GMA’s Telebabad block. It’s theme song is "Friend of Mine" as sung by Aiza Seguerra.

TV host Paolo Bediones is a homegrown Kapuso talent, so folks were surprised when he was missing at GMA’s 59th anniversary show at the Big Dome, "One Glamourous Night," last Friday. It turned out Paolo is currently taping the new season of "Survivor Philippines" in an island somewhere in Australia, which must really be a tough task for its contestants as it’s the middle of winter there right now.

Is it true Paolo broke up with girlfriend of two years Abby Cruz just before he left for his 40-day taping of "Survivor" abroad?

"Yes," an informer tells us.

And to think they were already planning their wedding the last time we talked to Paolo. Why did they break up? Someone says it’s because Paolo was against the idea of Abby joining more beauty pageants like the Bb. Pilipinas and Century Tuna, but she still joined and lost.

"But they parted as friends," adds our informer. "Wala silang samaan ng loob."

Coco Martin’s full frontal nudity scene in "Serbis" is being circulated on the internet and it’s on the jacket of pirated DVD’s showing his manhood while erect. How does he feel about this?

"Well, I can’t do anything about it kasi nabenta na sa ibang bansa ang right for the uncut version of ‘Serbis’ at doon siguro nakuha ‘yung footage and shots na nasa internet ngayon," he says. "Hindi ko naman puedeng sisihin ang director naming si DirekDante Mendoza for that dahil I’m sure wala naman siyang kinalaman sa pagkalat noon. To begin, I really consented to do that scene. As an actor, I’m just giving what my role requires."

Does he now regret doing that nude scene?

"Hindi naman as I believe in that project at ‘yun nga, napuri naman ito ng maraming critics abroad, lalo na sa New York where they really like the movie. Hindi naman ‘yun basta walang katuturang sex video lang."

Would he be willing to do such frontal nudity scene again?

"Kung kakailanganin ba talaga at maganda ‘yung project na pang-international din, why not? As an actor, my body is part of performance on screen. I’m just happy na patuloy na maraming magagandang projects for me. In ‘Kinatay,’ for which Direk Dante won the Cannes Filmfest best director award, I also play the lead role of a new cop who witnesses the murder of an aging prostitute played by Maria Isabel Lopez. Happy rin ako that I’m now doing a hit TV show, ‘Tayong DalawaDahil dito, nakuha nga ako to play the title role in an old movie niSen. Ramon Revilla Sr.,’Tonyong Bayawak’, that’s part of their new ‘Agimat’ series alongside Gerald Anderson, Jake Cuenca and Jolo Revilla. This is an action fantasy at ibang-iba naman ito sa indie films na ginagawa ko."

We told Jackie Rice she’s one of the winners in "Starstruck" who is truly deserving and we’re happy to see her active again in "Kung Aagawin Mo ang Lahat sa Akin," that started airing last Monday replacing "Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin?" after she was punished by GMA-7 for misbehaving.

"That’s not true, I was not punished," she says. "I was also in ‘Dyesebel’ and ‘Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang.’ Hindi lang ako nabibigyan ng tamang project."

Movie writers around us snickered when she said this. How can she deny that she was reprimanded when it was officially reported that she was suspended then, along with her contemporary, Iwa Moto? Iwa does not deny this at all.

At any rate, Jackie is back and she seems to ready now that she’s 19 to go sexy this time as she even did a sexy pictorial as cover girl for Maxim’s which belongs to the ABS groups of publications. The role she plays in "Kung Aagawin" as the sister of Maxene Magalona was not in the original. "Idinagdag lang ang character ko para mas kumapal ang story ng conflict between Maxene and si Glaiza de Castro na siyang umaaapi sa amin. In the end, kumampi pa ako kay Glaiza kaysa kay Maxene who’s my real sister."
