| Pokwang mistaken for a gay by her crush![]() Column: Studio Whispers When she was a guest in the top sitcom, "Ok Fine To ang Gusto Nyo," she sensed that lead actor, Aga Muhlach, was eyeing her. "That was my first encounter with him so, nilapitan ko siya and told him, Aga, babae po ako. "Ang loko, crush ko pa naman," she said. Pokwang appears with Aga in the upcoming Star Cinema movie, "Dubai." Like Aga and the other two principal stars, Claudine Barretto and John Lloyd Cruz, she plays an overseas Filipino worker in Dubai. "Being a former OFW, I can relate to my role in Dubai. I was a former member of a group of dancers who worked in Dahran. Unlike the Filipinos working in Dubai, kami sa Dahran had to work to death for every centavo. But like my fellow dancers, I persevered. Yes, for the sake of my family, especially my children," she related. Pokwang has two kids with two Japanese. She met them when she worked as a dancer in Japan. "Pero minalas ako sa pag-ibig," she admitted. "Pareho akong iniwanan ng mga ama ng aking anak." It was while in Dahran that one of her children died of brain tumor. She, however, was unable to attend his funeral. "Mas pinili kong ipadala na lang ang perang gagastusin ko pag-uwi, para pambayad sa kanyang pagkaka-ospital. "Besides, if I went home, I would not be able to go back to my work. Ganoon kahigpit ang aking contract," she said. It was by chance that she became a comedienne. She learned about ABS CBNs search for new comedians and joined the contest without the slightest idea that she would win. "So far, so good," is how Pokwang now describes her life as a comedienne. "I hope to make it good." She is a mainstay of "Quizon Avenue." She has already been tapped to do another movie with Star Cinema. "Life is good," she said. Pokwang just celebrated her birthday last August 28. Star Magic treated her and her other fellow Star Magic contract stars born in August to a blowout at the 9501 Restaurant, ELJCC building, ABS-CBN. Other August birthday celebrants were Dominic Ochoa (August 4), Danilo Barrios (August 6), TJ Ramos (August 21), Eliza Pineda (August 23), Helga Krapf (August 24), and Mikylla Remirez (August 27). Seventeen-year-old Helga is very promising. Her dad, a former seaman, is German while her mom is Pinay. Her parents, according to Helga, met here in the Philippines. Both she and her elder sister, Mary Rose, were born in Germany. Helga was 10 years old when her father decided that they should all leave Germany to stay in the Philippines. Helgas dad is 71. Both his parents have passed away. "Sabi niya sa amin, bilang seaman, he has been to many countries around the world pero para sa kanya, ang Pilipinas daw ang pinakamaganda sa mga countries na kanyang napuntahan," Helga said. The Krapfs live in Meycauayan, Bulacan. "Sa Meycauayankasi nakabili ng properties ang father ko." What does she miss most about Germany, since she was born there? "I miss the way they celebrate Christmas there. I also like winter, na di tulad dito sa atin sa Pilipinas," she said. So far, Helga has done one TV series, "Spirits." She is a second year Broadcasting major at the Lyceum of the Philippines. Source: Malaya |
