Pops wants to be friends with Jom

Pops Fernandez was asked at her album launch if she didn’t go to the Goma Cup in Boracay to avoid seeing ex-husband Martin Nievera who talked about his tiff with her ex-boyfriend Jomari Yllana. Martin said that Pops and he were together when they watched Jomari delivering his message for Martin in "Cool Center." Martin said Pops commented sadly that the person talking is not the Jomari that she knows.

"I’m not avoiding seeing anyone," says Pops. "Busy lang nga ako promoting my album. Whatever it is that Martin said in Boracay, hayaan na lang natin. I’d rather just keep quiet para matapos na yan at hindi na humaba. I’d rather not discuss at all what Martin said. I don’t want to be involved or get caught in whatever. Okay na ako and I just wanna keep it that way."

So she doesn’t talk to Martin?

"We do, but only when it’s about our kids. Si Robinkasi, gustong sa States mag-college so we’ll need his help theredahil sa kanya ito titira roon. Siempre sad akong mawawala rito ang anak ko to study abroad but I have to learn how to let go as I can’t keep them forever."

What about Jomari?

"I offered for us to remain friends. I was serious about itkasi we have a lot of good times naman together. It’s all up to him. I still want to be his friend, kung ready na siya. If our relationship didn’t work, then it doesn’t mean that we can no longer be friends."

Is she looking for a new love?

"No, I want to be by myself first to figure out a lot of things. It’ll take a lot of time as I believe na hindi new love ang lunas sa isang broken heart. I believe in love pero ayokong maGMAdali."

Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo were married at the San Juan Nepomuceno church in San Juan, Batangas last Tuesday at 6 a.m. The day before, Sharon, who was the maid of honor, said she wanted to hurry home as it was her and Sen. Kiko’s 13th wedding anniversary and she was inviting some friends for dinner. It turned out she left that night for Batangas for the early morning wedding of her good friend Juday. This means Shawie and Juday now have the same wedding anniversary. They can celebrate as a foursome from now on.

The reception was held at a beach resort an hour away from the church. Among other showbiz couples who were there were Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez, Paolo Abrera and Suzie Entrata.

What did Sharon Cuneta and Ai Ai de las Alas discover about each other while they were shooting "Best Friends Forever"?

"I discovered sobrang mahilig pala magbasa ng bookssi Mega," says Ai Ai. "Ang dami niya laging baong libro sa set. Also DVDs. Mahilig din siya tumawa, magkuwento at good hearted siya. Mabait ang puso niya."

"Si Ai, very simple siya," says Shawie. "Siguro lagi siyang pagod, kaya lagi siyang tulog. Pero pag kailangan na, gising na gising. I saw her two sons visiting us sa set and I saw ‘yunglove niya for them in her eyes. Nakita ko rin ‘yung respeto atlove nila sa mommy nila. At si Ai, totoong tao siya, hindi siya plastic. Hindi siya nang-aagaw ng eksena."

Sharon has not done a straight comedy for quite a time.

"Last time yata, ‘yung ‘Megamol’ pa with Andrew E. Ang tagal na. Puro drama ako. So, dito sa BFF, at first, feeling ko, parang salimpusa lang ako kasi sina Ai, Chokoleit, Joy Viado at Direk Wenn Deramas, comedy talaga ang forte nila. But later on, na-feel kong I fit na rinwith the movie sa husay nilang makisama. Naging mga teachers ko sila sa comedy. We became so close na talagang iiyakan ko kapag last shooting day na. I feel blessing sa’kin ang movie na itoas it shows my funny side."

Most of the sexy actors of the late ‘90s have gone back to oblivion. Only Allen Dizon is blessed enough to gain respectability, winning acting awards for "Twilight Dancers" and for being a producer. His ATD Entertainment produced "Paupahan" last year. He has just completed a new one, "Marino," and will start another one, "Dukot (Desaparecidos)."

Someone says "mahaba ang pisi mo" as a producer.

"May kasosyo naman ako," he says. "Sa ‘Paupahan,’naka-break even kami and I’m so happy it got so many nominations for me, Snooky Serna, Tita Gloria Romero and Kuya Germs. With ‘Marino,’ I’m giving a break to new writer-director Paul Sta. Ana. The subject is relevant to the times. It’s about the lives of seamen and what happens to the families they leave behind. I work in a ship here with other seamen: Emilio Garcia, Victor Basa and Rico Barrera. We show what happens as we work in a ship. I leave my wife, Ara Mina, with my mom, Lui Manansala, and the younger brother I’m sending to school, Mike Tan. Ako, may mistress sa Bangkok, si Krista Ranillo. Si Ara gets close to a neigHBOr, Marco Alcaraz, dahil lonely rin siya. Our daughter in the film is played by my real-life eldest daughter, Nela Marie."

He’s producing "Dukot," directed by Joel Lamangan with the plan of entering it in international film festivals. "It’s a political film about human right violations at matapang siya. I play a desaparecido, an activist who gets abducted and tortured by the military."

Now that he’s a producer, will he still do movies for other companies?

"Oh yes. I just finished ‘Tutok’ for a new company. Emilio Garcia and I play a TV reporter and cameraman who get kidnapped by rebels while we are covering them. This is directed by Joven Tan."

Tirso Cruz III is so lucky he can go work back and forth from one rival station to another. After the role he played as Bing Loyzaga’s husband in "Paano Ba Ang Mangarap?" on GMA-7 was murdered, he surfaced right away at ABS-CBN with not just one but two shows. He plays the cold and strict dad of Sam Milby in the daily primetime show, "Only You." Here, his wife is played by another Bing, Pimentel this time (the mom of Sid Lucero and Maxine Eigenmann). On Saturday nights, he’ll be seen also in "Nasaan Ka, Maruja?" as the psychiatrist who helps Kristine Hermosa solve her recurrent dreams about her past that are rooted in her being a reincarnation of the late Maruja. Tirso has a secretary in the show, Assunta de Rossi. What he doesn’t know is that Assunta is already dead and is only a ghost.

At the "Sine Direk" launch at Teatrino, we congratulated director Maryo de los Reyes, who’s megging the entry "Kamoteng Kahoy" starring tot stars Nash Aguas and Buboy Avila. His afternoon soap, "Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin?" is setting records as it rated a very high 29.9% twice.

"Oo nga, e," he says. "Nagugulat kami sa sobrang lakas niya, mataas pa sa rating ng ibang shows sa primetime.At dahil diyan, magkakaroon na ng launching movie sina Aljur Abrenica at Kris Bernal sa GMA Films. It will be shot on location in Bohol."

We thought he’s also directing the Richard Gutierrez-Anne Curtis romance?

"Yes, pero ginagawa pa ang script at wala pa silang maibigay na schedule ni Richard who’s busy with ‘Zorro’ andni Anne who’s busy with ‘The Wedding.’ So habang hindi pa sila available, gagawin ko muna ‘yung Aljur-Kris movie. GMA is assigning me another soap, but I begged off. Magmu-movies muna ako. Also, busy rin ako sa ‘Kamoteng Kahoy’ na three shooting days pa. Enjoy ako rito kasi mga bata ang bida, just like ‘Magnifico’ that won awards abroad."

Director Mel Chionglo says "Bente" tells the parallel stories of three different characters: that of Sen. Jinggoy as the mayor, Richard as the assassin, and a young student activist with whom their lives get intertwined. He originally chose Marky Cielo of GMA Artist Center to play it but Marky passed away so he chose Aldred Gatchalian of ABS-CBN Star Magic as replacement.

"Pero hindi lang siya ang napalitan si cast," addsDirek Mel. "Originally, si Lani Mercado will play the wife of Sen. Jinggoy. But her schedule is so busy so we called up Snooky Serna at buti puede siya. Last was the young actress who is supposed to play Aldred’s love interest. On her first shooting day, dumating siya to say she cannot play the role kasi it’s against her principles daw. Hindi raw niya puedeng gampanan ang role ng isang young woman who gets pregnant out of wedlock. Ang pinagtataka ko lang, she auditioned for the role at alam niya all the while what kind of role she’d play, pero on the first day of shooting, doon niya lang na-realize na hindi niya magagawa ‘yung role. Buti na lang, I called up Manny Valera at pumuede agad ang isa niyang talent, si Glaiza de Castro, na pinapunta agad sa set at nag-shoot na rin agad.Glaiza really saved the day. Kung hindi, na-pack up lang ang shooting namin."

A writer claims Jewel was ordered by her secret actor boyfriend not to accept the role. "Ayaw siguro ang role niya, ‘yung mabubuntis siya."
