| Pure Pinoy talent seen in MYX Awards nomineesAuthor: ABS-CBNNews.com Filipinos are a musically gifted race. Whether as musicians, performers or songwriters, Filipinos continue to produce lasting works that run the the widest range of emotions. They are simply fluent in the language of the soul. Precisely because there is so much musical talent around, getting established in the local music scene is very difficult. It is a very challenging and competitive field and talent alone cannot assure one of success. With hundreds of talented bands and performers wanting to be part of the industry, only a few pass and survive the challenges of breaking into the scene to eventually make a name for themselves. That is why the coming 2008 MYX Music Awards will showcase the best local Filipino musical talents, giving due credit to those most deserving. This year's theme for the MYX Music Awards is "Celebrating the biggest artists and hits in Pinoy music." MYX recently held bar tours as a prelude to the actual awards to be held at the Meralco Theater on March 26. MYX VJs Iya, Igi, Drei and Mica and six of the hottest new bands, all nominees for the music awards, went on the bar tour which was well-attended by screaming, excited fans. The six acts that went on the bar tours included the following: Ciudad. An indie rock act composed of Mikey Amistoso (vocals, bass, piano), Justin Sunico (guitar, vocals) and Mitch Singson (drums). The band was formed way back in 1994, when its members were still in high school. The are nominated in the Best Indie Artist category. Callalily.Composed of Kean Cipriano (vocals), Tatsi Jamnague (guitar), Alden Acosta (guitar), Aaron Ricafrente (bass) and Lem Belaro (drums) the band quickly built up its fan base in just a few years. They are honored to be nominated alongside other great acts like Bamboo. Silent Sanctuary.A band with a rather unique sound, composed of Anjo (cello), Chino (violin), Jett (viola), Sarkie (lead vocals and guitar), Paolo (bass), and Allen (drums). The band is nominated for the Favorite New Artist and Favorite Song categories. Three-piece act Hilera, Chris (vocalist) and Bobby (drums) Padilla and Ivan Garcia (bass) is nominated for the Favorite Remake category. Singer Julianne is nominated for Favorite New Artist. "Music is a language that everybody speaks but you don't have to know how to sing or play the instrument or know anything. As long as you like what you hear, as long as you understand what you hear, it penetrates you in some way. You're speaking the language. It's not verbal. It's an emotional language. May music naman na walang lyrics di ba pero inspirational. It's an experience," she said. Another three-piece band, Reklamo is also a nominee. Its members LC de Leon (vocals and guitar), Mig Dayanghirang (bass), and Ciro de Leon (drums) still consider themselves as underdogs in the industry, although they strongly believe in their own talent and commitment to see them through their struggle to the top.
