Reasons for celebration

Angel Locsin has all the reasons to be happy these days. Apart from the high ratings of Only You opposite Sam Milby and Diether Ocampo, Lobo won the grand prize at the recent World Television Festival in Canada.

With her present success, many say that she’s the movie queen of her time.

“I guess I’m not yet prepared for that title. Maybe, princess is more apt but not queen. It’s too huge a title for me. I feel I still have a long way to go to be called as such,” Angel humbly states.

She is set to do a movie with Aga Muhlach under Star Cinema before the year ends. There’s also the project titled Etiquette of a Mistress which promises to show her growing acting chops. Angel just misses the experience of working with Megastar Sharon Cuneta in the sixth installment of Regal Entertainment’s Mano Po titled My Mother.

“Yes, because my contract with Regal has already expired. I’m now exclusive with Star Cinema. That could have been great because it’s with our Megastar. But I’m positive it’s not yet the end of the line for us to co-star in a film. Who knows, Star Cinema will come up with a brilliant project for the two of us in the near future, right?”

Many wonder why she and present flame Luis Manzano haven’t done a screen project yet.

“It’s our personal choice actually. As much as possible, we don’t want to work together in a show or a film. A guest appearance in each other’s project is okay, but work on a longer basis, no! It’s our way of keeping our relationship private. One more thing, before we met, we already have our own careers and we’re able to stand on our own so what’s the use?” she points out.

Leading man, finally

Sid Lucero doesn’t mind if he first made waves in the indie genre rather than mainstream.

“If I were to repeat my entry to the business, I would still choose the path I trekked. At least, I was able to establish myself as a competent actor early on which proves to be beneficial in getting more offers. I’m proud with my body of work. In fact, I won awards because of my performances in indie films like Donsol, Tambolista and Selda,” he explains.

After Ligaw na Bulaklak, Sid is now part of the upcoming ABS-CBN 2 soap Dahil May Isang Ikaw which stars Lorna Tolentino, Gabby Concepcion, Kristine Hermosa and Jericho Rosales.

He also plays an important role in the full-length feature digital movie Astig that will compete in the Cinemalalaya Awards. Here, he shares stellar billing with Edgar Allan Guzman, Arnold Reyes and critically-acclaimed heartthrob Dennis Trillo in his first venture onto the indie genre.

No acting dreams

Before Rosalinda, Carla Abellana admits she wasn’t really that serious to pursue an acting career.

“That’s true! I never really planned to be here. I had my day job as an HR associate for a real estate company in Makati. But when I went to the go-see and GMA asked me to quit my post because I’d play Rosalinda, I realized this is an opportunity of a lifetime so I grabbed it. Now, I’m enjoying it very much. I know I made the right decision.”

This early, she’s already being compared to Marian Rivera who is considered as GMA’s brightest female luminary. People say they’re a perfect match.

“Of course, it’s flattering. She’s already up there. She set the standard, so to speak. I still have a long way to go compared to her. Pressured? It’s normal but I don’t want to get affected by it. I’d rather concentrate on making my own mark in this field. My dream is to achieve even half of Marian’s accomplishments.”

Many say that she and leading man Geoff Eigenmann make a gorgeous pair. What can she say about the handsome young actor?

“We’re still getting to know each other. But one sure thing is that he’s a true gentleman. He’s taking good care of me on the set. He’s guiding me in our scenes together. I only have good words for him.”

In one of his previous interviews, Geoff admits that it’s not hard to fall for her. Due to this, the public wonder if there’s already a brewing romance between them.

“He said that? I’m flattered! But no, there’s no romance yet between [the two of] us. Let’s see in the coming days, specially that I’m presently available!” Carla ends with a jest.

Geoff versus Dingdong?

Geoff Eigenmann is aware that some quarters are pitting him against Dingdong Dantes now that GMA-7 is grooming him to be their next leading man material. But the handsome heartthrob is quick to dismiss the thought.

“There’s nothing like that, really. Dong and I have the same manager. In fact, he’s happy when I got the role of Fernando Jose in Rosalinda. He told me he had the same high when he landed the role of Sergio Santibanez in Marimar. I have high regards for Dong so I hope people will not make us compete against each other,” Geoff says.

But with all the attention he gets from his mother network at present, he can’t stop people from thinking that he’s gradually becoming a threat to Dingdong’s popularity and has a reason to be insecure.

“Honestly, I don’t think that I’m a threat to him. He’s got no reason to feel insecure! For one, he’s already established and has long carved his name in the industry. He has proven himself many times already while I still have to prove my worth. Rosalinda is an acid test for me. I hope I pass with flying colors!”

This early, many are already linking him to his leading lady Carla Abellana.

“She’s a beautiful person inside and out. She’s got a light aura and is very intelligent. It’s still early to say if romance will bloom between us but I’m not discounting the possibility. I can say she’s more than my type and I promise to take care of her and our love team,” Geoff states.
