Regine's commendable job

Author: Bong De Leon
Column: Check It Out

THE initial offering of Regine Velasquez's "Songbird" last week was quite a preview of bigger things to come.

Regine opened the show with Barbra Streisand's "People," followed by two more Streisand ditties, "Evergreen" and "Somewhere. " They were not close to Streisand, but Regine tried her best to come up with her own version. The trio of Regine, Gian Magdangal and Dennis Trillo sounded new, and somehow, viewers felt that the two have more to offer.

Gian is very promising as a singer, add his dashing looks, height, voice quality and masculinity, he will send many girls swooning. But of course, we know that he's already a father to sexy star, Sheree's daughter. (Or, is it a son?)

Dennis, on the other hand, obviously capitalized on his popularity and handsome face. We all know that he's more of an actor, but his appearance on the show certainly helped in the ratings.

Regine looked so divine, the cameras captured her best angles. She donned fantastic gowns, and the stage looked expensive, with technically excellent lightings. Congrats to Darling De Jesus who's in-charge of production.

What we liked with the show is that Regine didn't try to make it so Hollywoodish. She spoke in Tagalog most of the time, unlike other hosts who seemed to have forgotten their own language.

MARIAN, DINGDONG EXCITED WITH THEIR FIRST FILM TOGETHER

AFTER a very successful team up in MariMar and Dyesebel, it is most likely that GMA Film will gamble on Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes on the big screen. When Marian heard about it, she's most excited.

When Dyesebel chalked the biggest rating, Marian couldn't believe it, as even director Bb. Joyce Bernal's expectation isn't that high. Dingdong is likewise ecstatic about the news. He looks forward to working on films with his phenomenal partner.
SEXY LADIES DO 'DIRTY' JOB

"KUNG Ako Ikaw" has hurdled one season with ease. It showed great strength in the ratings as a reality show.

In tonight's episode, guest celebrities will try the job as magkakangkong (kangkong planters). Watch ex-beauty queen Carlene Aguilar, StarStruck's Chariz Solomon and singer Geneva Cruz do the difficult job.

They will deal with the murky waters to plant and harvest kangkong, before preparing them for the market.

Well, P100 thousand is up for grabs (for the winner). On Wednesday night, we will see who gets it among the three. Kung Ako Ikaw is hosted by Joey Marquez and Keempee de Leon.
