IN the tradition of previous Metro Manila Film Festival big-budget entries such as "Agimat" and "Exodus" comes Imus Productions’ grandiose project for this year’s filmfest, "Resiklo," that boasts of a formidable cast and mind-boggling special effects.

"Resiklo" is a futuristic story about a battle waged by survivors of a holocaust against alien invaders who try to reduce the whole planet to smithereens.

The cast, as huge as the movie’s scope and budget, is led by Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. who is also the producer.

"‘Resiklo’ is far bigger than ‘Exodus’," promised Bong, who made sure that his new movie is at par with Hollywood movies of the same genre. "I saw to it."

In "Resiklo" (from "recycle), Bong plays Crisval Sarmiento, an ex-military colonel who becomes the reluctant leader of rag-tag group of holocaust survivors in the Philippines who try to survive in a secret sanctuary called Paraiso. The survivors are threatened by the Mutanos, or mutated humans who serve the insect-like alien race called Balang; and the alien invaders themselves. In order to survive, Crisval and his group must defeat the technologically-advanced alien race by using robots they have engineered from recycled parts of derelict everyday machines and military components. The title "Resiklo" actually refers to the robots that they use.

Yet in the end, the rag-tag group realizes that, in the battle for human survival, the best and most effective weapon is love and faith.

"It’s the good old story of the triumph of human spirit against evil," said writer-director Mark Reyes, who directed several of GMA’s hit fantasy-adventure series like "Atlantika" and "Enkantadia."

"Resiklo’s" all-star-cast includes Dingdong Dantes, Jennilyn Mercado, Michelle Madrigal, T.J. Trinidad, Benjie Paras, Paolo Contis, Jairus Aquino, Ella Cruz, Barbie Sabino, Jojo Revilla, Bryan Revilla, Andrew Schimmer, Empress Schuck, Roi Vinzon, Mylene Dizon, Chinggoy Alonzo, Ram Revilla, King Gutierrez and Cloyd Robinson.
