Rhian should be replaced by Iza?

Rhian Ramos says she now believes in the adage “na mapapalad ang inaapi. ” She has become controversial because of the negative things being sent via email and text by her detractors, but this obviously only worked to her advantage.

The evidence is the consistently above 30 percent ratings of her primetime TV series, “La Lola. ” But her detractors continue to denigrate her and we just got email the show’s rating is actually declining because Rhian is not a good actress, she’s not convincing in the lead role, everything she does is scripted and she should just have been replaced by Iza Calzado. What can she say to this?

“Wala,” Rhian shrugs. “Even then naman, never akong sumagot sa kanila. They can say what they want but as long as viewers watch ‘La Lola’ and GMA-7 continues to trust me, bahala na sila sa gusto nilang isipin at sabihin. ”

DIANA CONFUSED
Diana Zubiri is lucky enough to have not just one but two Metro Filmfest entries. She’s now shooting “One Night Only” with Valerie Concepcion and Jon Avila in her episode for Canary Films. For Regal, she’s also shooting the “Nieves” episode of “Shake, Rattle & Roll X” with Marian Rivera, Luis ALandy, Marco Alcaraz and Jennica Garcia.

“Nakakatuwa nga kasi ngayon lang ako nagka-filmfest entry, nagkasabay pa,” she beams. “I don’t know yet kung saang float ako sasakay during the Parade of Stars. Lilipat na lang siguro ako halfway during the parade para masamahan ko pareho. ”

She’s excited with “Shake X” as she plays the role of the Reyna ng mga Engkanto. “Si Marian ang magiging kalaban ko rito as she’s the engkanto slayer. First movie ko rin ito with Regal kaya I’m giving it my best para matuwa naman sila sa akin at kunin uli ako in their othe projects. ”

Her afternoon TV drama, “Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan,” is ending soon on November 7 after 20 weeks, making it the longest running series in GMA’s Dramarama sa Hapon. “Nakakalungkot nga, pero talagang ganyan. I’m really happy with my role there, kasi drama to death ako roon as the wife of Marvin Agustin. Abangan nyo ang ending ng show namin at talagang ibinuhos ko na ang lahat sa aking breakdown scene. ”

KRISTA’S TOO MUCH SKIN EXPOSURE BREAKS BF’S HEART
AFTER playing leading lady to John Prats in a four-week episode of “Someone Like You” in “Your Song,” Krista Ranillo now becomes a bonafide Kapamilya as the leading lady of Ryan Agoncillo in the afternoon soap, “Pieta. ”

“I play the role of Martha,” she says. “Rich girl ako rito and my mom is Helga, played by Lyka Ugarte. Kahit maton si Ryan as Rigor, I fall in love with him dahil I have sympathy for the poor. Kaso, ayaw ng mother ko sa kanya and she prefers Frank, played by John James Uy, my rich suitor na duwag naman pagdating sa laban at basta pera ang paiikutin niya. ”

We heard she has a number of love scenes with Ryan. How does this sit with her boyfriend, Director Dominic Zapata who’s directing “La Lola” on GMA-7? “Okay lang sa kanya. He understands it’s part of my work as an actress. Kapag ayaw niya, hindi na lang niya pinapanood. Like when I posed sexy sa FHM, ayaw niya ‘yun and for a while, ayaw niyang tingnan ‘yung pictures ko doon. ”

How is it working with Ryan? “It’s a breeze kasi he’s a true professional. It’s nice to work with him kasi he’s easy to get along with. At mahusay siya, ha. To think he’s better known as a host. Pero dito, lumabas ang pagka-actor niya. ”

JAKE DENIES GUAM SCANDAL WITH ROXANNE
Jake Cuenca denies there was a fight between him and Roxanne Guinoo in Guam. He also denies that he’s now going steady with Bea Alonzo, the reason why Roxanne reportedly got jealous.

At the recent birthday party of movie writer Rose Garcia, he said he and Bea are just the best of friends. “I admit, nanligaw ako sa kanya, pero hindi kami natuloy na maging magkarelasyon,” he says. “Mahirap kasi we’re both so busy with work. May ‘Betty La Fea’ siya, tapos she’s gonna start a new movie. Ako naman, may tine-taping ding new show with Shaina Magdayao.

“Also, Bea made it clear to me na breadwinner siya at mas priority niyang tulungan ang family niya kaya she’d much rather just focus on her work now. So, sa ngayon, kuntento muna kami sa pagiging friends lang. If we’re the ones naman who are really meant for each other in the future, hindi na kailangang pilitin ‘yon at kami rin ang magkakatuluyan. So let’s just leave it at that. ”

NIGHTS IN RODANTHE: HEARTRENDING
THOSE who love romantic tearjerkers will enjoy “Nights in Rodanthe,” based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks who earlier also gave us the sappy “Message in a Bottle,” “A Walk to Remember” and “The Notebook. ” This brings back the tandem of Richard Gere and Diane Lane, who earlier did the acclaimed “Unfaithful. ”

Diane plays Adrienne WIllis, the loving mother who has to set aside her own artistic career to devote her time to raising her kids, Amanda (Mae Whitman), a rebellious teener, and Danny (Charlie Tahan). She’s been estranged for several months from her husband, Jack (Christopher Meloni), who was cheating on her. Before Jack takes their kids to a vacation in Orlando, Florida, he suddenly tells her that he wants to reconcile with her. Adrienne is not sure if it’d wise for her to forgive him and give him another chance. She calls her best friend, Jean (Viola Davis), and tells her about Jack’s offer, but Jean is against it.

While her kids are away, she agrees to pinchhit for her best friend Jean, who’s going to Miami, to help manage an oceanfront inn in the scenic beachside town of Rodanthe in North Carolina. While she’s there, she meets Paul Flanner (Gere), a doctor who’s staying there for a few days. He joins her while she’s eating in the kitchen as he doesn’t want to dine alone and they get to talk, though it’s her who did most of the talking. Soon, they are dancing sexily with each other to tune of songs from vinyl LPs in an old record player. Aren’t they more romantic than today’s CDs?

In a series of flashbacks, we learn that a woman patient of his died during a routine surgical procedure due to a bad reaction to anesthesia. Instead of informing the woman’s husband himself, Robert Torrelson (Scott Glenn), who lives in Rodanthe, he just sends a nurse to relay the news and this is resented by his son Mark (James Franco), also a doctor, who then decided to run a medical clinic for the poor in far off South America.

As maybe expected, Adrienne and Paul are two problematic souls who make a connection in a manner that they’ve never felt before (otherwise, there will be no movie), what with the arrival of a hurricane that throws them together in each other’s arms. Paul opens up to Adrienne emotionally and she convinces him to visit Torrelson to make amends as he might file a wrongful death case. It’s a passion-filled weekend where they get to walk hand-in-hand by the beach and gaze longingly at the moonlight. But soon, they have to part. She goes back to her kids and he follows his son in South America. They maintain communication by writing love letters to each other until something else happens, which of course, we cannot reveal to you here.

As a heartrending romance, no doubt the movie accomplishes what it intends to do, but film critics will surely lambast this for being mawkish, sentimental, maudlin, manipulative, sudsy soap. So if you’re not the type who go for weepy chick flicks like this, you should avoid it at all cost, although it’s not as tear-inducing as “The Notebook” where two old people die together in each other’s arms. Otherwise, you’d be asking a lot of questions, like: if Adrienne and Paul are really smart, will they stay inside the inn that is built on flimsy stilts and where the tide runs in during a horrible hurricane? Of course, for precaution, they will leave right away.

But you might say, well, this is just a movie, and both Diane and Richard look gorgeous on screen, and the locations are postcard pretty, so let’s just forgive such lapses in logic.

Also, it cannot be denied that the two glamorous leads who provide a lot of star power both know how to prevent the material from getting too sappy. Gere as the senior version of Dr. McDreamy gives just the right of angst in playing a character saddled with an emotional burden while Lane always exudes sympathetic concern even in her most taxing moments. There’s definite eletricity in their endearing tandem.

Those who have experienced the ache and pain of separation from the one you truly love will be able to relate with the movie. We think the film’s theme can be summed by a line delivered by Lane: ‘’You can open up to someone you’ve known for six hours because you don’t think you’ll ever see them again, never realizing they will change your life. ” Doesn’t this also remind you of “Bridges at Madison County”?
