Ruffa’s killer schedule

Annabelle Rama’s pre-Valentine concert for Royale Era at Crowne Plaza last Saturday was a big success even if one of the main singers, Verni Varga, failed to show up as she got sick. So many other singers gamely took center stage to help her. Gabby Concepcion, Rico Puno, Nonoy Zuniga and Marco Sison came to the rescue to perform with Pops Fernandez, Iya Villania, Pokwang and Rochelle Pangilinan. Arnell Ignacio did the opening number. KC Concepcion was there and joined her dad on stage. Gabby called Richard Gutierrez his son-in-law and plugged their movie "When I Met U." Gabby also called Annabelle and Eddie Gutierrez his "balae" and made everyone laughed.

Annabelle says she’s very pleased with "When I Met U," which she says is a much better romantic movie than the first team-up of Richard and KC. "At least kasi ito, hindi minadali," she adds. "Doon sa una, after shooting, diretso pa sila sa dubbing at promo kaya pagod na pagod sila. Mas maganda rin ang script nito na mas naayos kaya talagang pulido, pati direction ni Joel Lamangan, mahusay talaga at very glossy ang kabuuan, kaya I’m sure mas magugustuhan din ito ng viewers kaysa ‘For the First Time.’ Mas marami itong kilig moments at ang ending ng movie na ito, ang ganda-ganda."

Meantime, whatever happened to her daughter Ruffa Gutierrez who’s been absent in "The Buzz" for two Sundays now?

"She took a vacation in the States bago siya sumabak sa bagong show nila ni Ai Ai de las Alas na ‘Ruffa and Ai,’" explains Annabelle. "Daily show ‘yun, so nag-rest muna siya. She’ll be back Wednesday (yesterday) at tuloy na sa trabaho agad kasi may briefing na sila and pictorial ni Ai Ai sa ABS para sapublicity photos ng ‘Ruffa and Ai.’ Then they’ll do some promo and Ruffa will do a one-on-one interview kay Ai Ai for ‘The Buzz’ to be shown on Sunday, tapos the next day, start na ang morning show nila. Ruffa is also being asked by Kris Aquino to play sa ‘Kapamilya Deal Or No Deal’ kaya sabi niya, hindi pa man siya bumabalik at iniisip pa lang niya ang mga trabahong naghihintay sa kanya rito, pagod na raw siya."

Marian Rivera is happy that she has patched things up with the writers with whom she had a previous misunderstanding. "At least nagkaliwanagan kami and we’re in better terms now," she says. "Anyway, it’s the new year and it’s nice to start on a clean slate."

She’s also elated for the feedback she’s getting as the mysterious woman who messes up Dingdong Dantes’ orderly life in "Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang."

"My role here as Proserfina is so different from ‘Marimar’ and ‘Dyesebel’ dahil woman of the world siya pero may pagka-jologs. So far, maraming nagsasabi sa’king naaaliw sila sa pagko-comedy ko sashow."

This week, Proserfina will get mad as Homer (Dingdong) meddles with her so she leaves the mansion. Homer implores her not to leave but she refuses to listen and in her haste, she falls down from the roof of Dingdong’s home and is not able to leave. For Homer, the identity of Proserfina is really a puzzle. His girlfriend, Helene (Angelu de Leon), then arrives, sees Proserfina and wonders what she’s doing in Homer’s home.

Homer’s haughty mom, Hera (Carmi Martin), soon hears that her son has another woman and tells him that she only wants Helene for him and no one else. Homer takes Proserfina to a bar and she sees her avid suitor there, Rado (Paolo Contis), and she gets scared. Later Homer sees Proserfina kissing someone and he gets into a fight because of her. Helen finally finds out who Proserfina really is.

Alfred Vargas faced the five hosts of "Showbiz Central" in the "Intriga Crossfire" portion last Sunday and was grilled about his private life. Is he really a two-timer since it’s rumored that he went steady simultaneously with Janna Roxas and a non-showbiz girl?

"I’m a one-timer. Never kong pinagsabay ang dalawang babaeand I don’t betray a woman’s trust."

Does he have plans of quitting showbiz to join politics?

"I’m thinking of joining politics but I’m not quitting showbiz. I’m willing to serve and help people."

Nagpa-sexy ka ba for you to get noticed when you were starting?

"I’m proud of all the roles I did, like my role in ‘Bridal Shower’ (as a macho dancer) for which I won an award."

Who’s your real girlfriend?

"Her name is Jasmine. She’s Fil-Italian, pero magaling siyang mag-Tagalog."

You previously admitted that you got indecent proposals. What’s the biggest offer you got?

"Ayoko nang pag-usapan ‘yun, kasi after I admitted that, wala nang umulit."

You had a kissing scene with Rustom Padilla in "Zsa Zsa Zaturnaah." Now that he’s BB Gandanghari, will you still be willing to do such a scene with him again?

"Okay lang, basta ba maganda ang role, maganda angproject at magaling ang director."

Alfred says he’s very happy with his career now. It’s only the start of 2009 and yet he’s already had two films. He plays Rufa Mae Quinto’s intellectual boyfriend in "Status: Single" and he’s KC Concepcion’s rich boyfriend in "When I Met U." On TV, he’s now taping "All About Eve" with Sunshine Dizon and Iza Calzado.

Lovi Poe was interrogated by DJ Mo in the "Gimme Mo" portion of "Showbiz Central."

Mo’s first question was: what’s the biggest trial na dumating sa buhay mo?

"When I lost my dad (the late Fernando Poe, Jr.). I was only 15 then."

Is it true JC de Vera is your biggest crush?

"He was my schoolmate in Colegio San Agustin and I was close to his brother RJ. Wala pa kami sa showbiz noon and even then, I’ve admired him at kinukulit ko ang brother niya about him. I like him as he’s a good actor at mabait na tao."

Who are the actors na nanliligaw sa iyo?

"Seriously, wala."

‘Yung nagpaparamdam?

"’Yung sweet sa’kin, si Prince Estefan (her leading man in "Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang.")"

Ano ang ipinagbabawal sa iyo ng mommy mo noon that you hated but you learned to appreciate later?

"My mom and I had misunderstandings, pero ‘di niya ako pinababawalan. She just gives me advice tungkol sa love. Like ‘yung puppy love ko noon, sabi niya babaero ‘yan and she was proven right."

Who is the guy who made you feel the love you know you deserve?

"My dad. Up to now, I can feel the love he gave to me saname na iniwan niya sa’kin na karespe-respeto."

Aside from your dad, who else?

"My cousin Macky."

Name someone who’s not a relative.

"O, sige, si Jolo (Revilla, her boyfriend). The respect he gave to me and my mom after all the intrigues about us, para hindi na lumaki pa, I really appreciate that."

Director Joey Reyes is glad that after his two entries in the last Metro filmfest, "Magkaibigan" and "One Night Only," both didn’t do well at the tills, he was able to recover right away with the hilarious comedy "Status: Single" that did better at the box office. At its victory party, we congratulated him as his movie really has several comic portions that succeeded in making the viewers laugh. He was very successful in getting a good performance from Paolo Contis as Rufa Mae’s gay confidante. Will he care to do an indie gay film someday like what’s so common now?

"No, ipaubaya na lang natin sa iba the chance to do such films," he says. "Choice nila ‘yun. Ako, sapat ng bading na nga ako and I just have to live with my homosexuality. Parang kalabisan ng gumawa pa ako ng mga kabadingang pelikula, kasi marami pa akong ibang stories and ideas na puede kong gawin that will cater not just to the gay crowd. I intend to do indie films about human relationships and other situations that are not necessarily gay."

He plans to buy his own state-of-the-art digital cam to be able to do this.

"I’d do subjects na hindi ko magawa for commercial mainstream cinema. I want to do it with well-made technical aspects para maganda talaga ang quality. May mga nakausap na akong kaibigang artista and they’re willing to slash down their talent fees just to do a project with me kaya mas nai-inspireako sa passion nila in believing in my goals as a filmmaker. I intend to do an indie film set in Recto Avenue."
